I've recently got into reading comics so this challenge I'm going for a comic book theme. I'm sticking with Marvel Universe characters as it's the one I know most about. I was going to just choose one character to focus on, but Ranger-brain took over and I couldn't decide which one so each goal is assigned to a different character.

 

Goal 1

Spider-Man

No introduction required for Peter Parker's alter-ego. The dude who got bitten by a radioactive spider and can climb up walls. 

 

Go to the climbing wall once a week

I've only just got started with climbing so this goal is a nice and simple one. I just want to spend a few hours each week doing a combination of top rope and bouldering.

Pietro Maximoff. The mutant with superspeed. Quicksilver's body is adapted towards the rigors of high-speed running. His cardiovascular and respiratory systems are many times more efficient than those of a normal human being.  Pietro's physiology grants him greater stamina when compared to an ordinary human, allowing him to operate at peak capacity for at least several hours before he begins to grow tired.
 
Run a minimum of 60 Kilometers in the month of January
One of my goals for this year is to be a better runner. I'm not looking for quicksilver like speed, I am more focused on becoming a better, more efficient runner. As with most things in life, you get better at running with practice, practice and more practice.
 
I use Strava to track my running and every month they run a monthly distance challenge, so I'll be tracking my progress on there and I'll post screenshots of my Strava activity here. As this goal is distance based, it doesn't matter how many times a week I go out for a run (though I'll try to do 3 times a week), as long as my mileage totals 60k or over by January 31st.

Kamala Khan is a nerdy superhero fan who never felt like she fitted in. After the Terrigen Mist's awoke her inhuman abilities, Kamala discovered she could shape-shift, stretch, deform, expand, or compress her entire body into any contiguous shape she can imagine for a variety of uses.
 
Do yoga twice a week
I've been doing Nerd Fitness yoga for just over a month now and so far have stuck to the Water series but I think I'm ready to move up the the Fire series. I may occasionally do one of the water videos if I feel I need to take it a bit easier or for post run stretching.

Peter and Kamala may spend their time saving the world in their superhero guises, but in their real life they have to tackle school work instead of super-villains. 
 
Spend at least 3 hours a week on Coding course
I have a few coding courses that I purchased in November that I haven't really made a start with. I don't have a lot of time to devote to this at the moment, which is why I'm starting small and just aiming to do 3 hours a week.

I'm really glad to see that you're making the climbing a priority!  Nice challenge, and I'm looking forward to seeing you conquer these goals!

I was either going to do just Spider-Man or Ms Marvel but couldn't quite get the goals to fit in for just one. 

 

I'm really glad to see that you're making the climbing a priority!  Nice challenge, and I'm looking forward to seeing you conquer these goals!

 

How could I not, climbing is awesome. It's been 2 weeks since I've been able to go and I'm getting withdrawal symptoms. Planning to go on Tuesday. WHY ISN'T IT TUESDAY YET!

I'm not sure if 60k is a little ambitious or not, but as long as I keep doing 5k's every Saturday and one long and short run during the week, I think I'll make it.

Nice theme! I've been meaning to give the Ms Marvel series a go - is it worth a look?

 

Absolutely. I've only read up to #15 so far as that's all that's available on the Marvel Unlimited subscription, but I've read those 15 twice already as I loved it so much.

I knew someone was going to pull me up on that eventually. Well done for getting in there first! I do love HQ, but I'm not a big reader of many DC comics.

Just realised one of the tags on my thread says Climbingrunning. Just to be clear, I'm not trying to start some intense new exercise trend, I just screwed up the tags. Not sure how to edit to delete so if anyone knows how please pass on the knowledge. Or alternatively, come up with a new exercise trend that combines climbing and running. If someone could figure out the mechanics of how that would work, I'd give it a try.

 

Enough nonsense, on with the challenge! I knocked 5k off my running total this morning. I'm not very happy with my performance on the run though. For some reason it felt much harder than usual. It might be the squats I did yesterday, or it might be the after effects of Christmas excesses. I'm hoping it's the former.

The progress bar is definitely a good motivator. I had to check a few times to make sure I'd worked out the percentage right as it seemed too high!

Today was a lifting day. Husband Stu is helping me break through my bench press plateau and man does he enjoy kicking my ass! His technique seems quite effective though. I aim for 5 sets of 5 with a 2 minute rest between sets. If I can't do 5 reps, I only get a 30 second rest and then try to get the remaining reps. It was hard work but worth it.

After lifting I did NF Yin Yoga stretching video and fell asleep in corpse pose.

Way to start out strong!

 

Thanks, I feel really good at the moment. Hopefully with the challenge only being 4 weeks, it will be easier to keep this good feeling for the entire challenge.

 

I have such a hard time staying awake in corpse pose!

 

 

I always doze off during that extra-long corpse pose in that video...

 

I think it's because the video goes really quiet and just has that lullaby like music in the background. How can you not fall asleep!

I do this route a lot and I was a bit slower than I normally am so I think Christmas has taken it's toll on my fitness a little bit, not drastically so I'm not worried about it.....for now........

Thanks! I need to average 15k a week and I should go slightly over that by Saturday, if I manage my scheduled runs.
