Hi everyone, I'm new to the Druids - I'm 48, perimenopausal and 2 sizes bigger than I was 2 years ago. It won't shift, no matter what I do so I need to learn to accept my new size and focus on exercise and diet to make me healthier instead of obsessing about weight. I've a bit of a dodgy knee and a rotator cuff injury that puts lifting anything out of the picture for a few weeks. So, for the first challenge of the year I'm going to work on mindset, with the ultimate goal of being happy and healthy with my new size and shape.

 

The Druids seemed like the right place to be for this month

 

Quest 1 - Moving
get to my Misfit tracker goal of 1000 points a day for 6 days out of 7. or -
stretch every day for 5 minutes if I'm not up to walking.
25% for each full week achieved, STR 2, DEX 2, STA 2
 

Quest 2 - Mindfulness,

3.5% on stat bar every day I practice mindfulness in any situation (including eating) for at least 5 minutes a day.

 

Quest 3 - Clean Eating

sugar once a week, wheat twice, cheese 3 times, or drink my water app goal if I'm not up to cooking
25% on stat bar for every week I stick to this plan - no points if I have extra days of anything. CON3

 

Life Goal for January.

3.5% for each day I spend 5 minutes looking after myself somehow. CHA 3

 

I'm not going to weigh or measure myself, I'm not doing before photos because after photos that look much the same are demoralising. I've bought a size up in trousers and I'm going to learn to be happy with my size and work on my health instead of getting miserable because I can't lose weight or inches.

 

Obstacles that need overcoming are:

  • walking/running in the rain - I wear glasses and it's impossible to see when it rains. I need to sort out a hat.
  • shoulder injury - it's loads better now but I can't lift my arm over my head yet - downward dog is a no no so most of the yoga I used to do is out of the question, I'm signed up to Instructor Live and I'll give pilates a go on there, being careful!
  • work/friends/family - always come first, I need to be strict with myself and make sure I have 5 minutes at least to myself every day
  • the misfit is playing up and not tracking properly, so there might be a gap when I have no means of tracking

 

Edited in week 2 when a horrible cold kicked in.....

Back up plan for when I'm ill:
 

Quest 1 - Stretching
Do at least 5 minutes of stretching every day. 25% for each full week achieved, STR 2, DEX 2, STA 2

 

Quest 2 - Mindfulness,

3.5% on stat bar every day I practice mindfulness in any situation (including eating) for at least 5 minutes a day.

 

Quest 3 - Drinking Water

meeting the target on my water app daily 25% for each full week CON3

 

Life Goal for January.

We will be together in this, and help each other to stay on track, I am so looking forward to this January challenge. :D

 

Looks like we have similar goals. I just love how systematic you go about tracking your success.

Week 1 placeholder - plan for eating cheese 3 times a week, wheat twice and sugar once. When it says 'cheese day' it means one of my meals that day contains cheese. Menu planning is vague, I generally have eggs and kale for breakfast, soup for lunch and some protien and carbs for dinner - I try to limit my carbs to the evening meal.
 

Monday -

  • misfit score - misfit is broken but I'm confident it should be over 1000, I walked a fair bit and lifted loads of veg boxes
  • clean day (bean bake)
  • mindfulness - done 2.5%
  • self care - knitting while watching TED lectures. 2.5%

Tuesday -

  • misfit score - 1340
  • cheese day (risotto)
  • mindfulness done 2.5%
  • self care - bath

Wednesday -

  • misfit score - 1190
  • cheese day (leftovers)
  • mindfulness nope
  • self care - yes, coffee with a friend 2.5%

Thursday -

  • misfit score - 1942
  • eating out with a friend - wheat + cheese +sugar
  • mindfulness yes, 2.5%
  • self care yes, shopping for new clothes 2.5%

Friday -

  • misfit score - 400 - this is the day the new one arrived so I only have half the day tracked
  • clean eating day (my son is at his dads so I'll make a HUGE vegi bake to last a few days)
  • mindfulness - yes 2.5
  • self care - yes, watched Casablanca

Saturday -

  • misfit score 1366
  • wheat day if I want it, I didn't so passed onto tomorrow
  • mindfulness 2.5
  • self care 2.5 out with friends

Sunday -

  • misfit score
  • wheat day
  • mindfulness 2.5
  • self care 2.5

Wednesday - misfit fail, cheese and wheat, meditation yes, self care yes - flu kicked in

Thursday  - blah, wheat, misfit fail, meditation and self care ok

Friday - spagetti and vegi meatballs - wheat, misfit fail. meditation and self care ok

Saturday - toasted sandwiches, wheat, cheese, misfit over 1000, meditation and self care ok

Sunday - wheat, misfit fail,meditation and self care ok

 

I've made a back up challenge for when I get ill - I can't walk much without coughing and don't have the energy to cook wheat free versions of what I'm cooking for my son.

It's on the app - I have a misfit flash which is a bit erratic and might have to be replaced but at least I get some sense of activity.

Day 1, Monday going well so far - I started the day with a kale, avocado and pear blended drink then went to get my veg - I was there just as the delivery came in so I helped out to keep warm, got a 10% discount on gorgeous organic veg and loads of exercise.

Breakfast kale, avocado and pear smoothie

breakfast 2, kale, beetroot and apple smoothie

lunch veg, egg and oatcakes with pnut butter and loads of salad with olive oil

dinner will be bean bake with oat crumble on top

Sounds like a very nice and satisfying meal plan!

Your description of kale, pear, avocado blended drink makes me want to introduce smoothies back into my daily nutrition. After all, I have kind of a "super-blender" sitting around, which I haven't used in what feels like ages.

Congrats on loading up on high quality organic veggies!

 

How is your shoulder doing with all this exercise?

the blender was a present to myself - I want to make paleo cheesecakes and I needed something powerful enough to whizz up dates and cashews into something smooth and creamy.

My shoulder is a bit buggered to be honest, I was really enjoying carting boxes around and I should have stopped before I did. I kept it low though and I see the osteopath on Thursday, it is getting better overall I'd just love to be able to do a downward facing dog again!

Day 1 done, I'm feeling positive about this challenge. I found a new water app that isn't as annoying as Plant Nanny, I'm really loving kale smoothies, I have LOADS of lovely veg and I had a nice time lifting boxes of veg around.

My years goal of using up all the sock yarn is coming along - one pair of socks just finished and another pair of mittens on the go.......

It's called Aqualert - it still has ads but it's no where near as irritating as Plant Nanny - I wanted that plant to suffer in the end :-)

day 2 plan for the day

breakfast - either scrambled eggs or a something and avocado smoothie

lunch - leftover bean crumble

dinner - tofu and something - I think my son will have it with pasta, I'll have it with a pile of veg.

 

dog walking (I volunteer once a week) if it's not raining.

 

I've bought some new clothes in a larger size so I can replace some of the stuff I don't expect to fit into for some time yet - I spent all of last year trying to lose weight and it didn't work so this year I'm learning to be comfortable at this size.

I've bought some new clothes in a larger size so I can replace some of the stuff I don't expect to fit into for some time yet - I spent all of last year trying to lose weight and it didn't work so this year I'm learning to be comfortable at this size.

 

You just reminded me of this:

 

You've got to accentuate the positive

eliminate the negative

Latch on to the affirmative

But don't mess with mister inbetween

 

I find that a positive attitude can make a huge difference how one feels about oneself and our surroundings. Which does not mean that one should simply stop working on oneself. But being less ready to "condemn" myself for whatever circumstance I don't manage to change at the moment. 

The moment one lets go usually something positive happens. 

 

Reminded me also of the time many years ago when I wanted to have kids but couldn't get pregnant. I was told that I couldn't have babies. So for a while I was very sad, then arranged myself with it. And … got pregnant twice. :D

I spent all of last year working hard to lose weight and it didn't happen, I'm 48, I have to accept that I am chunkier now than I was. I'm not gigantic, just a couple of sizes bigger than I used to be.
