Starting out the New Year right!

Decided to try another challenge.  :)

 

I'm sorta borrowing from the suggested level 1 challenges (2 diet, 1 fitness, 1 level up your life).

 

1. Eat a veggie with dinner every day +1 Str +1 Wis

    *Week one: 100%

    *Week two: 100%

    *Week three: 100%

    *Week four: 100%

 

2. Replace after work soda with water or green tea +2 Con +1 Wis

    *Week one: 100%

    *Week two: 100%

    *Week three: 100%

    *Week four: 100%

 

3. Take a walk or use my gazelle twice a week (giving myself an indoor option cause... WI in the winter, lol) +2 Sta +2 Con +2 Dex

    *Week one: 100%

    *Week two: 50%

    *Week three: 100%

    *Week four: 100%

 

4. Read at least 30 minutes a day (a "real book" not online - goal to help with cutting down on screen time) +2 Wis +2 Cha

    *Week one: 100%

    *Week two: 100%

    *Week three: 100%

    *Week four: 100%

 

 

I will try to update this thread daily, but I will not beat myself up if I do not.  That was actually how I failed the last challenge that I tried.  I got upset that I didn't take the time to post more, decided I was failing, and just quit.

Hello!

 

Those are great goals: they're reasonable, will almost certainly make you feel like you have more energy by the end of the challenge, and will be a solid foundation to build upon in future challenges. 

 

I know the feeling about not getting round to updating your thread. You might have more fun making a paper chart to hang up in your room, and use that to track your progress as well as posting on your thread when remember. Could just be something simple like a calendar where you check off every goal you've completed that day, or something elaborate with line graphs and trajectories if that's your style!

 

Edited to add: Just in case you don't already know, you can follow this topic to receive updates (usually email) when someone posts on it, by clicking the red button ("Follow this topic") just opposite the topic title. Have a good challenge!

I had a similar problem where I felt I didn't post good enough progress and then didn't post at all. It leads to a chain reaction. One of my unspoken of goals this challenge is to go on my thread every day regardless if I suck or not.  I'll see how it turns out. :P

I made myself a whiteboard in my room to track my progress.  That way if I don't make it onto the website, my goals are still in front of me and trackable.

Smart! I was toting around a little journal book for the same reason. Last challenge I was hardly even updating my goal points regularly/on time. I made myself do it once a week but even then I found myself updating the points a couple weeks at a time. 

 

As long as you're tracking things and happy with your progress, I hope you don't get too discouraged this time around with however often you update. This whole thing is meant to be a tool for you, so don't let it turn into anything but that :) (Easier said than done, I know, but still).

Great goals! I've fallen into the not updating leads to feeling like I'm failing feeling before...this time I'm planning on updating, even if it doesn't feel like momentous results. It's the direction you're going that will make the biggest impacts :)

 

Also your last goal is reminding me to take a screen break myself!

I went to read my 30 mins and read for almost 2 hours.  :lol:   Almost done with book 5 of ASOIAF.  I have two books waiting on my shelf for when this is done: Kate Mulgrew's autobiography Born With Teeth, and The Wheel of Time Companion.

My friend got me an Ernest Hemmingway collection for Christmas and I was just thinking I need to play less WoW. Now I know what to do instead!

Good luck with your goals. They look nice and manageable. During my first challenge, I kinda messed up and stopped posting, and I almost quit. But then I told myself everyone would be happier if I reported than I failed rather than if I said nothing at all. I managed to finish the challenge. It wasn't perfect, but I gained healthy results in the end so I stopped being so bent out of shape and told myself to relax. The previous 2 challenges I tried a couple years ago didn't end so optimistically, so maybe it takes a couple tries to sink in that failure is progress.

I play WoW too, though I go in spurts, and right now is a maybe play once a week spurt, haha.  Though I did just start Skyrim, we'll see how that goes.

 

All my efforts in 2015 amounted to failure, so if one needs to fail to make progress... I made progress!

As usual for when I try to eat healthy, now I am eating way too few calories.  I don't count calories as a rule, but I occasionally tally them up to get an idea of where I am at.  I'm proud of myself for eating so many veggies!  But I probably need to find something else to eat today.

Good job on the veggies! For days when you've not had enough calories, it can be useful to keep a jar of peanut butter (or similar) on standby, and eat a tablespoon of it with some apple slices. Gets the job done quickly and with plenty protein, and if you're careful about what kind you buy, gives you a calorie bomb without junky sugar.
