General background: I'm Raptron. I'm on a recreational gymnastics team that competes February - April. I try to practice 3x per week for about 6-8 hours total and then do a bunch of other stuff on the side because I prefer physical activity to pretty much any other kind of hobbies. Love cookies, cocktails, and cheese. Hate running. Kind of want to be a ninja warrior some day but trying to stay more focused on my gymnastics training for at least the next 4 months.

Goal 1. Condition

*WODs from drillsandskills.com OR at least 15 minutes of conditioning 3x per week

Words I actually said at practice this previous week, "My 2016 resolution is to do more conditioning because right now I feel like I am doing 0 and anything would be more than 0." It should be easy to get this one taken care of, but the workouts will certainly not be.

Goal 2. Control

*End of range of motion control drills, specifically for hips and shoulders 2x per week

Using the things I love from various blogs more regularly should help improve my leaps and jumps. Woo! All this shit could take a bit more improvement, as always.

Goal 3. Continue

*Non-gymnastics workouts 2x per week

Cop out goal, but it is important to keep busy with other things even though competition season is coming up in full swing. I've been lacking in the strength-building area since I've been out of lifting for the past few months.

Goal 4. Chop, chop!

*Create meal plan for each week

*Meal prep sessions 2x per week

Hubstron wants to eat a bit better but I want that to definitely mean more wholesome foods for both of us, as I've lost some of the meal prep drive I've had previously. When I don't plan out meals or prep in advance, I don't get nearly enough protein. This should help with that and help make sure the both of us eat more tasty veggies.

Of course I'm following!  :)

 

Your threads always make me feel like we're fitness sisters.  I LOVE skill work and all of the fun stuff, even if it completely wipes me out and leaves me a mess of DOMS.  While I know I need to do the conditioning and mobility stuff, it's so incredibly hard to motivate myself to do any of it.  Both of your first two goals should really help you stay on track and prioritize the boring stuff that tends to fall through the cracks.  

 

Are you fully cleared to lift again?  Even if you aren't, I'm sure between your Savage Games stuff and the NP stuff, you're going to easily fit in the non-gymnastics workouts.  

 

Even though I'm not specifically grading it, I'm in a similar boat with the food preparation.  If I don't batch cook things, I gravitate toward meals that are simple and convenient, which means they're often less healthy and less loaded with what I need.  When I take a firmer hand with meal planning, I tend to eat so much healthier.  I hope you post some of your recipes or meal plans.

 

As always, I'm looking forward to seeing you crush your challenge!

I am not fully cleared. I'm allowed to do 20# deadlifts which are I don't even what. I think they're just supposed to make me feel better about not being quite cleared for lifting. I did do some front squats last week without any noticeable issues, so that, in the least, is promising. This challenge/month, I think most of my additional workouts will take place at NP and my work gym.

 

In February or March, I will likely pull the trigger and join the rock climbing gym near my office as it has a really nice free weights area and uh, bouldering/climbing, duh. I don't want to sign up until I am actually cleared to try to return to a regular lifting program, so my joining will hinge on that, most likely. Despite my shitty hands, I've been really enjoying playing with all this ninja monkeying around and climbing. I know it's practically impossible to DO THREE THINGS (climbing, gymnastics, and lifting), but at least if I join this gym, I'll have the option to scratch the itch for either climbing or lifting. It's $90/month, which is better than any of the other climbing gyms around here and only $30 more than I would pay for a regular free weights gym near me -- which is less than 2 day passes to a climbing gym or ninja facility, so the financials of it check out for me as well.

 

We are totally fitness sisters. ALL THE SKILL WORK! ALL THE DRILLS WE KIND OF HATE! Let's kick some assss this challenge. :)

I second the motion for food prep inspiration, pics would be just grand.

Tonight I've got practice and saw this 10-minute conditioning workout on drillsandskills.com, which is actually within my abilities (as opposed to another workout I saw that was 3 rounds of 15 back tucks, 7 135# power cleans, 12 muscle-ups for time...uh, what?! No one should be doing that workout. That is just asking to hurt yourself.):
