Challenge 1 - Rayvanna vs old habits

Rayvanna

Recommended Posts

So I was a lurker. I joined Nerd Fitness in February 2014 and did a plan for a few weeks. However I have a habit of trying to do things hell for leather and then falling off the band wagon. I lost nearly 2 stone for my wedding and I've put it all back on. So I've decided to try using one of the challenges as a way to kick start. However, I am going to try to be kind to myself. I'm not going to set myself a massive workout. I'm not going to put myself of a strict diet. I'm going to try to make small changes that will hopefully build up to a better lifestyle.

So Level 1 - Challenge 1

- Eat fruit/veg with every meal (3x per day)

- Do 20 squats every day (7x week)

- Do a 10sec plank every day (7x per week)

- Clean the house for 15 minutes every day (7x per week)

Hopefully I can manage to stick to it. My long term goals for this year are to:

Lose 21lbs to reach 14stone

Find a tai-chi class and start doing it

Be able to do a 60 second plank

To be kinder to myself.

PROGRESS UPDATE

Fruit/Veg 28/84 (14 not achieved)

Squat 7/28

Plank 7/28

Clean 11/28

04/01/2016

- Booked onto a Tai Chi class starting this Thursday

- Weight - I normally weigh in on a Wednesday so I will update that then

05/01/2016

- squats increased from 10 to 20

06/01/2016

- Weight 15st 4 1/2lbs (214.5lbs). This means that I actually only need to lose 1st 4 1/2lbs (18.5lbs) to reach my target.

11/01/2016

Week 1 summary

Fruit/Veg 14/21 (7 not achieved)

Squat 5/7

Plank 5/7

Clean 6/7

Overall 71% B-

18/01/2016

Week 2 summary

Fruit/Veg 14/21

Squat 2/7

Plank 2/7

Clean 5/7

Overall 54% D+

High five from a fellow former lurker! (I mostly still lurk, actually. But shh.) Looks like a good, simple challenge you've got going on. :) Best of luck!

Now stop lurking and go say hi to some people. ;)

I really like your challenge.  Making small changes over time is a good indicator that you will be able to stick to them long term.

I'll be interested to watch and see how those Tai Chi classes turn out.  I tried getting into tai chi a couple challenges ago and I had trouble finding resources.

Thanks. I'll let you know. I need a class to learn stuff.

Hopefully I can do this!

So day 1 is nearly done for me (GMT timezone). Have managed to have a banana with breakfast, lunch was a salad and had extra veg with my pasta bake for dinner. 10 squats done and managed to do a 10second plank, that was an awful lot harder than I remember so it's definitely a good challenge. Cleaning has been done and I may even go and do a little bit more before bed time.

Thank you one and all for your support.

Thank you LadyShello for the fix above!

The more people's challenges I read the more ideas I am getting. I am really fascinated by some of the things people have in their signatures.

So Day 2.

Have been successful with the fruit and veg. Had a salad for tea (evening meal) when I went out with work. Have upped the number of squats to 20 as I was finding 10 quite easy and I want it to be at least a bit of a challenge. Plank was still very difficult but I did it. Cleaning was done but didn't do any extra as was out late with work and had some work to do for a presentation.

Am getting there.

Day 3

Fruit and veg done!! Even had an extra apple as a snack.

Squats and plank done. I did todays plank in work and asked for feedback from the physio's I work with on form. Managed the 10 seconds with good form.

Cleaning done. Still working on this presentation for work though.

Tonight was also my weigh in night at Slimming World and I achieved Slimmer of the Week. Really chuffed with it!!

Day 4 -

Well today was not as much of a success, at least as far as food was concerned. Managed fruit and/or veg with both breakfast and lunch but dinner ended up being KFC as ran late leaving work and needed to grab something before my first Tai Chi lesson.

Tai Chi was good. Very interesting but I think it will take me a while longer to get a true feel for it.

Tomorrow marks 4 days off work and I am off to stay in a cabin with the team I normally do first aid with, for a non first aid weekend. There will be lots of fun and laughter but hopefully I can still manage to stick to my goals.

Instead of physical cleaning I am going to spend some time each day emptying my e-mail inbox and working on de-cluttering it of the stuff I don't need any more.

You may have had a KFC, but you didn't let that influence the rest of your choices - as dncahn206 mentioned, you've had fruits and veggies and still made it to tai chi which is pretty good going in my opinion :D

Thanks guys. It's so nice havingthe support.

Yesterday (day 5) was bad for fruit and veg but I always knew this weekend would be bad for food and drink. However I have gotten up this morning and had an apple instead of some crisps.

I also did my house cleaning before we went away but I procrastinated on the packing which meant we were late leaving.

I did my squats and plank when we got to the holiday cottage.

We're away in the Fens, near Cambridge in England. I've never been here before but it's lovely this morning to be sitting wrapped in a blanket watching birds, rabbits and squirrels flying/running around outside.

I just have to make peace that this weekend will be bad for food but good for my soul. I am away with people I love in a very pretty place.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

That sounds like an awesome start to the weekend! Well done for healthy eating and getting the exercises in before leaving, I admire your discipline :)

Hope you have a wonderful time in the Fens! I have heard it's beautiful but never been, despite it only being a shortish drive away from where I am

Day 6:

Fruit and veg was okay 2/3 meals.

None of my workout done but I did spend over an hour in the pool messing around so at least I did something.

Sorted out my inbox. Think I deleted about 1000 e-mails. There's still more to go but at least it's a good start.

Day 7.

Fruit and veg was dreadful. I had none. It just wasn't a good day

Did no exercise

Did no cleaning.

Yesterday was just one of those days. I reverted back to old habits. My excuse is that I was tidying up the cottage we stayed in and travelling home but that's really no excuse for not even trying to eat any fruit and veg. However it was yesterday so I need to put it behind me and move on with week 2 of the challenge. The weekend was lovely though and just what I needed. A weekend away with friends and just relaxing.

Hope everyone else had a lovely weekend.

Don't worry about that day 7.  Just get right back into working on your new habits.  Just try to not have two days in a row.  You've had a great first week.
