Hello! I’m CM. I’ve been around the warrior guild for a few years now but still have newbie numbers due to lots of restarts and attempts to get form where it needs to be. Specifically, The Squat. As a recent trainer at my gym so helpfully pointed out:

“Were you just doing front squats?â€

                                              

Sighs, “I wasâ€

 

“You should keep your back more vertical.â€

 

“Yeah, I know. It’s something I’m working on and front squats are better in that regard than back squatsâ€

 

“Oh, well, [proceeded to give me 10 minutes of advice and ‘exercises’ that will ‘help’ me]â€

 

So, I am working on it. Based on a lot of trial and error, it’s mostly due to my lack of ankle mobility. I stretch my ankles out twice a day for a couple minutes each time and generally get in at least one hour-long yoga session per week. I do goblet squats, front squats, and bulgarian split squats in substitution for back squats. I’ve been following the 531 program, 3x/week. However, the significant other (SO) and I agreed to do a month long Self (the magazine) challenge with my mother and sister so I will be chilling in the Rebels camp this challenge!

 

Oh also, I'm terrible with challenge themes but welcome all the gif love!

 

Quest 1

I’d like to work off the holiday pounds a bit quicker than I did last year (read: it took me approximately 7-9 months of lax goals to lose the pounds I put on during the holiday season). That means, enter the cardio.

*complete the five Self workouts each week throughout the challenge. They’re all pretty much cardio but they call some of them “toning†workouts. Which is why, I will also be

*keeping up with 531, 1x/week

 

Quest 2

I fell off the foam rolling and mobility band wagon. Time to get back on.

*complete 25 minutes of foam rolling or mobility per week (outside of my daily ankle stretches and yoga)

*complete four yoga sessions throughout the challenge

 

Quest 3

*No alcoholic beverages for the whole challenge

*Keep carbs below 100g (+- 10g) for 20 days out of this 26 day challenge.

*Keep weekly calorie intake within 500 calories of 12,600 for the first three weeks, then 9,000 for the last five days.

*take measurements and progress photos for challenge start and end.

i knooowww so sad! but i want to still go out and hang with people so i can teach myself the word "no" when it comes to delicious cocktails. mmmm.

 

i should just sign up. i have to go with a bride for dress shopping that day. the 1st appointment is at 11am and it's about 1hr15min from savage which is why i've been hesitating to sign up. but i can be a bit late and smelly for that, right?

that's a good way to go. i committed to this Self challenge before they told us what the workouts would be. so it looks like the plan is to blast myself with cardio for a month and then pull it back to an at least 1x/week thing. and adding back in the lifting which won't be hard. the good thing about the workouts are that I can do most of them at home and won't have to be in an over-crowded gym for the month of January!

i'm weighing in everyday and the pounds are slowly coming down as I get back into a regular eating habit. I’ve been having trouble waking up in the morning this week though. so I’ll be glad to give my body a break from being out late drinking on the weekends this month and hopefully by next week it’ll be more inclined to wake up at the previously normal time.

W1D3 – Wednesday

Did a circuit of some weird ass moves. They called them jack crunches, cross-over kicks, back attacks (basically a fly), and lift offs – wtf??

arms felt pretty good and my biceps (probably from a previously Self workout) were feeling it last night.

Made some pretty dang good pork chops yesterday which I haven’t done in a while. Busted out the cast iron skillet for it too!

Mmmm.... pork chops.

 

Might have to pick those up on the way home for dinner now.

yeah! it was super easy to just sear on the stove top with a marinade and then roast in the oven for a bit :D

W1D4 – Thursday

 

*Self 3/5

Did sprint intervals, jumping jack intervals (which turned into me dying from cardio overload and just did regular jump roping for a bit), and then some step ups and speed skaters.

 

*mobility 25/25

Was supposed to do yoga last night but decided to get in the rest of my mob time and did some yoga this morning.

 

*carbs 96/100g (+- 10g)

*cals 6,874/12,600

looking good for the week so far! this means I have about 1900/day for Fri-Sun.

 

 

soooooo I’m totally sick. blehhhhh. starting feeling the throat tickle a couple days ago and began the emergen-c packets but woke up this morning totally congested and with a sore throat :( I woke up at 430am and couldn’t go back to sleep so I made some tea (new delicious green tea from an xmas gift!) and did some yoga for congestion. because there is yoga for everything. I’m hoping to get enough done at work this morning so that I can skip out early.
