Calanthia Cobbin
An AMRAP means you do as many reps as you can do IN ONE GO. You can't stack that number by taking a break and then adding reps - you can try again at a later time and beat your old record, though. Retry as many times as you like and list your best AMRAP. You can try variants that are too easy for you if you like and yes the points still count. So clarifying again, I can do an AMRAP of wall push-ups, write that down, and then the next day do an AMRAP of a different type of push-ups, and both will still count towards my score? Or is it an AMRAP of as many push-ups of as many different varieties as possible all in one shot? Calanthia Cobbin: Level 3 Hobbit Ranger Rogue of Stick 'Em With The Pointy End! As many standard push-ups as you can do in one go. Etc. SymphonicDan
As a mathematician I approve of this experiment to find good scoring algorithms ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I think we have tutorials/examples for pretty much everything now, but last summer I made a tutorial with lots of mid-difficulty variations - I've already shown it a couple of times but here goes: 00:50 - knee push-up01:57 - close grip push-up02:08 - diamond push-up02:18 - CPR push-up (like diamond but hands on top of each other)03:52 - table push-up / incline push-up Somehow I don't think I did a standard push-up anywhere in there unless you count the ones where the speed is modified. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Do we have anyone yet with a one-armed push-up? It's been on my challenge goals intermittently for ages but it's so much harder than most two-handed variations! Best I've managed is with my legs straddled apart as far as my flexibility will allow, but that won't count for this mini-challenge. I'll get some proper AMRAPs later in the week 1 Level 25 Cyborg Assassin [ STR 36.75 | DEX 26.00 | STA 28.00 | CON 31.25 | WIS 29.25 | CHA 24.50 ] current 5-week challenge: March 2020 external websites with my resources for... fitness & breathwork | mental math & mind sports | motivation & productivity Link to comment
Darth Yoga
I definitely would have crapped out at 50 if I hadn't seen this post! You inspired me to do 100. And now I see some 110s up there. Yay for Grayspeed and Zeroh13! (I'm all set with my 100 though.) For some reason, I had to try again today for a one-hand pushup. I was thinking, "Didn't they say partial reps count? Surely I can do half of one!" NOPE. I don't know why I cannot convince myself that they are really just that hard. And now SymphonicDan has mentioned doing them straddled, so I have to go try that. NOPE! Slightly better though, I was able to bend my elbow a bit before falling, and with legs together I can only hold the top position at full lockout. Still NOPE. 3 Joshua - Yoga Ninja Weasel #22 Weasel does 500 Pullups Link to comment

Mr_Willes
This push experiment isn't gonna work for me this week. Tuesday evening i had some troubles with the Benchpress, and seriously deloaded to be able to finish the remaining sets. It feels like i have overworked my tendons of my biceps. Trewest
So I am probably a little confused. I can do all of the variations throughout a day to AMRAP them all. Even if I find one or two types really easy. For the full number of pushups though it has to be in proper pushup form, but partials still count.Am I reading that right, because if so I have to go change some numbers. And add some. Darth Yoga
From an experimental perspective, we want a snapshot of what all the assassins are capable of THIS WEEK, not an all-time record. We're always going to have folks who have an injury, or other training that has left them brutalized. That is a normal part of these challenges, not an exceptional anomaly. I mean, don't hurt yourself, but it is an experiment, not a contest. All of your data points are valuable. 2 Joshua - Yoga Ninja Weasel #22 Weasel does 500 Pullups Link to comment

Slightly better though, I was able to bend my elbow a bit before falling, and with legs together I can only hold the top position at full lockout. Still NOPE. No 10 bonus points for me. My fault for not explaining this before, but the reason I say the formula is confidential isn't because it's impossible to figure out - it's because the group at large (minus a few) probably won't spend time puzzling over it and if it's unknown, people will hopefully give their best effort without trying to game the system for best possible scoring. We are collecting data and I'm trying to control the variables. So next week the formula will now definitely change. If you figure it out (it's not THAT hard) just keep it to yourself and do your best, okay? Fortunately, the end of week bonus points are my secret all miiiiiiiiiiiiine muahahahaha~! For the full number of pushups though it has to be in proper pushup form, but partials still count.Am I reading that right, because if so I have to go change some numbers. And add some. I suppose a clarification is in order: partials count for the final rep, but not if you're doing half rep push-ups because you can't do a full one, then adding the half reps together. Among other things, we're trying to figure out the overall level in the guild right now, and that would skew the data. Make sense? But yes, you can test multiple AMRAPs per day if that's what you feel like doing! Hey, you can get 30 points for just TRYING three. From an experimental perspective, you want a snapshot of what all the assassins are capable of THIS WEEK, not an all-time record.
