For some reason, I had to try again today for a one-hand pushup. I was thinking, "Didn't they say partial reps count? Surely I can do half of one!" NOPE. I don't know why I cannot convince myself that they are really just that hard. And now SymphonicDan has mentioned doing them straddled, so I have to go try that. NOPE! Slightly better though, I was able to bend my elbow a bit before falling, and with legs together I can only hold the top position at full lockout. Still NOPE.

Possible variations underneath straddled 1-armed push-ups are:

  • wall one-armed push-ups
  • table one-armed push-ups
  • knee one-armed push-ups

Furthermore you can combine these to make other variations, like straddled table one-armed push-ups.

My fault for not explaining this before, but the reason I say the formula is confidential isn't because it's impossible to figure out - it's because the group at large (minus a few) probably won't spend time puzzling over it and if it's unknown, people will hopefully give their best effort without trying to game the system for best possible scoring.  We are collecting data and I'm trying to control the variables. :)

So next week the formula will now definitely change. ;)  If you figure it out (it's not THAT hard) just keep it to yourself and do your best, okay?

I may also be guilty of looking at the formula and thinking about strategy :P I believe it is possible to hide the formula from the spreadsheet using these instructions, so you might choose to try that.

I actually thought I HAD blocked those cells from being clicked on.

I will have to experiment later.  At this point it is moot for this week anyway.

Just did 20 pushups in the work bathroom.  .......

I did the same, but for my table pushups.  All of the small conference rooms here have round tables, which don't work so well.  So, bathroom counter it was! :)  I *don't* have a small office, so I'm glad no one walked in while I was mid-pushups. :P

Luckily I work in a small office.  Arms = OFFICIALLY DEAD shaarawy wait until later this week ok????

I do so many push-ups off my work bathroom counter on the regular! when I am feeling especially saucy and scofflawish I will do them in the office kitchen on the counter while waiting for lunch to reheat.

So apparently I can do more table push-ups than wall push-ups.... Shouldn't that be harder?

I am definitely not that knowledgeable in the world of MUSCLES but isn't there a difference between groups used? table is more triceps and back, it sure feels like to me, and wall is a lot of pecs? <-- all very empirical and based entirely on ME and the way my torso feels right now after yesterday being wall and table pushup day.

SPEAKING OF WHICH

my back muscles are like: yo. for reals? so many push-ups?

How interesting! I wonder if I will also be able to do more table push up than wall. We shall seeeee! For me the wall push ups just felt awkward, like I can't get full depth because there is a wall in my face. Definitely felt it way more in my arms and like it wasn't even touching anywhere further into my body, whereas with a full push up I can feel it into abs and chest etc? I have done table push ups in a while so I shall observe when I do those tonight where I am feeling it!!!

Same for me. Wall was all triceps, nothing else.

If you've got an exercise ball, try holding that against the wall (at chest height) and do a wall push up off of that. Keep your shoulder blades engaged (pulled together and down). While I find regular wall push ups to be not worth my time, these things are much more fun. Shoulder stability (moreso if your hands are further apart on the ball), wider range of motion, and even some ab work if you're really engaged :)

I have the same problem. I had a few times where it was, nose, meet wall.

I did table push-ups this morning. My body was like, hmmmm nope! Here's 10. Better luck next time, try again later.

As I suspected, table push ups were actually easier for me because they were working more muscles at once vs all the tricep all the time! :D I think I could maybe get my reps on it even higher buuut for the sake of experimentation I won't repeat!

Right?!  I actually intentionally did nose to wall as that was the deepest I could go. For push ups I usually drop to where my chest touches the ground so nose to wall was my closest equivalent I could go for hahahahahahaha.

Oh Fearless Guild Leader - would variations like these count? Like maybe for half points?

So far we've got a total of ONE one-arm pushup, thanks to PolishRifle.

No variations for this challenge, sorry.  If you can't do them quite yet, that's a legitimate data point.
