Jkiley here.  

I fell off the wagon last year, and failed the last two challenges I tried.

I have gained back all of the weight that I had lost before and I am now ready to start over again.

 

This time I am going to focus on small incremental changes over the course of the challenge and forming new good habits.

I think part of my past failures was that I was trying to too much too quickly. 

 

Main Quest: Weigh less than 200lbs by the end of the year.

Goal 1: Exercise

I want to get in the habit of waking up and exercising in the morning. 

My focus right now will be on getting into the habit/routine of exercising instead of endurance.  

 

Week 1: 20 mins 3 days a week walking on the treadmill | 3/3 finished

 

Week 2: 20 mins  3 days a week walking / jogging on the treadmill | 3/3 finished

 

Week 3: 20 mins 4 days a week walking / jogging on the treadmill | 4/4 finished

 

Week 4: 20 mins 4 days a week walking / jogging on the treadmill | 4/4 finished

 

Goal 2: Zero Liquid Calories

Because this challenge is shorter I am going to try to go with no soda, no energy drinks, and no alcohol... 25 Days of Zero Liquid Calories

Goal 3: Read more

Last year I only read two books and this year I want to get in the habit or reading more.

 

I plan to read minimum of 5 pages everyday and increase it by one page each week during this challenge.

 

Week 1: Read 5 pages daily Finished

 

Week 2: Read 6 pages daily Finished

 

Week 3: Read 7 pages daily

 

Week 4: Read 8 pages daily

 

Motivation:

I have been overweight most of my adult life. Two years ago I started the Paleo Diet with exercising and I was able to go from 248lbs to 198lbs. It was amazing and I felt great.

Last year my job got more stressful, and I fell off the wagon. I gained back almost all of the weight. I have joined the rebellion to get my life back, and to start feeling and looking great.

 

I’ve always loved the outdoors.  Right now I am in such bad shape that it is hard to enjoy the outdoors. I need to get into shape so I can have enough energy to enjoy the outdoors while I am still young.

Log One:

 

Yesterday was successful on two fronts.  I did my 20 minutes on the treadmill and managed to avoid any liquid calories. 

I ended up working late and didn't end up reading any, but I will try to catch up on my reading during my lunch break today.

Work stress is the worst, so I am glad to see you back.

Thanks! I do have a Goodreads account, but I haven't checked it our for a while... I will have to take a look.

Log Two: Week One Recap

Week one was mostly successful. I haven't had any liquid calories, I've been working out, and I lost 4.6lbs! I know a lot of that could be water, but it is always a good feeling to see the scale moving in the right direction.

 

I went on a snowmobile adventure over the weekend and had a lot of fun. It was actually a lot of work and I am pretty worn out, so that could hopefully account for some of the weight loss too. 

 

I am still behind on reading but my schedule this week will be a little more typical, and I should be able to catch up. Plus Steve's book comes out tomorrow hopefully that should keep me motivated help me catch up on reading.

This week I am adding an extra day to my workout routine and I am feeling up to the challenge. I feel like I have a lot more energy, and things seem to be moving in the right direction.

I'm really enjoying stalking everyone's characters (I've started one, but it's not that complete yet) and seeing everyone's goals. What hikes / backpacking are you thinking? I'm lucky enough to live along the Appalachian Trail - there are so many fun hiking paths!

I don't have any specific hikes picked out yet, but I live in the Black Hills of South Dakota so I have plenty of choices. I mostly just want to try a few I that have never done before. 

For backpacking either the Cloud Peak Wilderness or Teton National Park (Both in Wyoming) so not too far of a travel for me.

Log Four: Week Three Recap

 

One week left and time to finish strong.  Last week was great and I hit all of my goals. I added an extra day to my workout routine and I'm feeling pretty good about. 

I lost another 1.2 lbs so for first 3 weeks I have lost a total of 7.8 lbs. Not too shabby!

 

I am already mapping out my next challenge.  I love the new four week structure. It seems easier to stay motived and power through.

I do not planing on weighing in until Monday as I am trying to keep my routine the same.

Log Five: Challenge Recap

 

A quick final recap of the last challenge.

 

Over the course of the challenge I lost 8.2 lbs, I went the entire challenge without any liquid calories, and I finally got back into the habit of reading daily. 

 

This challenge was really about forming good habits, taking things slow as to not get burnt out to fast and cutting the urge for sugary drinks and alcohol. 

 

I was successful on all of my goals. Each morning I wake up and feel driven to exercise. I will be continuing these habit through the next challenge.
