For whatever reason, this decided to faff off the first time I wrote it. Writing this up for the second time was not fun and it may have turned out sounding a little clipped. Sorry. I hate wasted effort.

A Giant Conspiracy?? Could it be??

Stiens;Gate was an anime I was honestly convinced I'd hate. What with the classic harem dynamic, arbitrary fanservice and female troupes I dislike, it was pretty much a forgone conclusion. But, in the end, I'd had no choice. I'd just finished watching Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood AND Attack on Titan within weeks of each other (no break). There's a type of depression one sinks into after watching beautifully rendered anime--and I'd just gotten through two. I was sinking, like so many others before me and so I took a chance on this seemingly light hearted quickie. Stiens; Gate--the little gem--saved me from that "Good anime" funk and I was able to carry on to such tales as Hunter X Hunter and Hikaru no Go unscathed. I was lucky in this find and it seemed appropriate, given the "in-between"/recalibrating nature of this shorter challenge, to use this anime as a theme.

Experiment 1: Fine Tuning +3 DEX, +2 WIS

That hair flip tho

Makise Kurisu is the first to join Rintarou in his work. She is definitely the details girl. Under her guidance, I will be experimenting with caloric intake. For the first week of this challenge, I will eat at the caloric level My fitness pal suggests for weight loss of 2lbs a week (Yes, this challenge will require a scale. Urgh). I just want to see what will happen, unaided by exercise. This will serve as a sort of base.

Experiment 2: Double agent...make that a triple +3 DEX, +1 WIS

Being...whatever Moeka turned out to be requires peculiar dexterity. And so do I! I will continue to work on my hip mobility, five minutes a day using exercises I've found on the web and through Stars. Doesn't seem like a lot, but it will keep me honest.

Experiment 3: "And the 'Award for most BA' goes to..." +3 CON, +1 WIS

Suzu, as we confirm towards the end, is the total package. Physically and mentally fit....perhaps the fittest? Under her wing, I will begin rucking three days a week during the second week (Mental fitness, here I come). Not sure what weight I'll start with (likely 15 lbs) and I definitely need to do more research into what this might involve (distance or time wise), so any guidance is appreciated! In week three, once I've adjusted calories from week one and two, I'll start Age of Pandora (maybe sooner). This will be a minimum of four days a week. I am trying to experiment with results (hence the tiered approach) so I am excited to see how much of a science I can make this process going forward!

Challenge 4: Understanding +1 WIS, +1 CHA

tumblr_mimvd67oCw1rut0qpo1_500.gif

She annoyed me at first. A lot. But by the end she seemed sort of..profound? If anyone understood others deeply in this series, it was her. So, in this and only this I will emulate Mayuri. Once a week I will learn a new Japanese sentence so that I can more fluidly incorporate complicated grammar. I will also meet my daily Duolingo goal (30 xp total) in French and Russian.

And that's all folks!

Glad to see you back :)

At the risk of looking very stupid, gotta ask, what is "rucking"?

Also have a great challenge! You rrrrrrocked that last one for sure :)

Good to see you take it a little easier physically for this one.

Ahh so I actually discovered rucking through Elastigirl's challenge! It's walking, but with a weighted rusack/backpack! Not a stupid question at all! I had to look it up!

Day....something

Experiment 1: Fine Tuning +3 DEX +2 WIS

I have not been enjoying this XD. The first few days weren't that hard, but it is taking a lot of will now. I'll be glad once the week is over. I am considering calorie shifting at this level to see if I can alleviate some of the stress...but probably not next week haha

Experiment 2: Double agent...make that a triple +3 DEX, +1 WIS

It's like I forgot I was doing a challenge (I actually did forget about this experiment)! I haven't done any serious stretching, or rather focused stretching. Can't say how much I've done accounts for so I'll start over from today.

Experiment 3: "And the 'Award for most BA' goes to..." +3 CON, +1 WIS

Haven't started this phase

Challenge 4: Understanding +1 WIS, +1 CHA

I accidentally mised one day! Netflix binge till past midnight when I realized, I'd broken my streak. Ah well...

easing into your challenge, totally legit

How are you doing now?

Any way, you can set yourself automatic reminders for your goals?

Also if the caloric intake tracking is stressing you too much, have a look at Lillith's thread, she has a great hunger scale for watching her food intake.

Thanks for the rucking explanation :D

Have no experience on this at all, so I can't offer any wisdom, but I am sure if you start easy and build on it you will work it out fine

Things are a bit better now! I'll update the week soon but I have an actual routine now and the week from hell is over (according to the scale which, I am refusing to let affect me for good or ill, I lost a little over 5 lbs this week. Doing nothing. Once upon a time this would have made me happy. At this point all I am is mildly alarmed.)

Don't be alarmed. Momentum keeps going for a while. For the same reason we often start working out more, changing our diet and somehow expect immediate results. Doesn't happen. The body needs time to shift into a different metabolism. Then when you take a break, it will still continue on some shedding even so...

Plus I am sure your eating habits and water intake have changed already, but you might not notice because now it's your new normal.

Don't worry, it won't be muscle loss. That doesn't happy so quickly :)

Yay on having found a routine! How is your third week coming along for you?

What's brightening your days? Let's hear about all your glorious (and mundane can be totally glorious, too btw) adventures :)

Day....ahhhh 18? Maybe?

Experiment 1: Fine Tuning +3 DEX +2 WIS

So as I mentioned before this experiment went slowly and painfully. I did have to do some creative calorie shifting at the end after being invited out to dinner...but I did it! Thanks to Lucky, I'm also no longer freaking out about the 5.1 lbs I lost this first week. I am really thankful this week is over though.

Experiment 2: Double agent...make that a triple +3 DEX, +1 WIS

So this one has been my achilles heel. I haven't been consistent at all! I did stretch yesterday though. And I will again today. I guess that's all that matters? I think I underestimated this challenge because it was shorter (I also haven't been bribing myself) but I'm taking it seriously now. I think having the exercise component back helps!

Experiment 3: "And the 'Award for most BA' goes to..." +3 CON, +1 WIS

Week 2 was flawless victory for the first part of this experiment! I rucked three times that week with 10 lbs in my rucsack. This week, I've walked twice, upped the weight to 15lbs and am two days into Age of Pandora! For anyone who was curious: yes, do Hero's Journey first.

Challenge 4: Understanding +1 WIS, +1 CHA

I thought this had also fallen by the wayside, but turns out I haven't done so badly! I atleast get half points for keeping up with the Japanese sentences! The French and Russian on Duolingo has not been as stellar. Again, I underestimated this experiment. 😠That will change. I'll change the perspective of this goal and say that between now and the end of the challenge I'm to gain 420xp in French and Russian collectively. This way I won't be obessed with the daily streaks (which weren't a part of the challenge to begin with but some how became one....). I'm less likely to self sabotage this way. 420 is also a little more than the original goal would dictate, but I think I owe this experiment some penance. 😒

Additionally, my computer is kind of out of commission again so I'm relying on my phone which makes posting difficult sometimes (this app is temperamental ). In any case, I'll do my best to keep updating!

Walking is actually doing worlds of good! It's cold out, but so beautiful! I'm also kind of excited for age of pandora...even though it's honestly kicking my butt.

UGH. I know I owe you all an update but I came back from Nigeria and have been pretty violently ill ever since. I've recently started doing high knees (sets of 50) to at least remain semi active, but jiggling about tends to cause a beeline for the toilet. Walking/rucking is also out unless I drive somewhere properly paved (read: nowhere with the snowpacalyse upon me) and I'm only just starting to feel strong enough to manage that. *le grand sigh* This is maddening.
