Gainsdalf the Whey
I hear you on the prep thing. It's why I eat like an asshole on weekends. I don't bother to prep food cuz I'm not traveling to work, and I just don't eat if I'm not hungry. By the time I want something, fuck cooking. It sucks that all the healthy shit needs to be cooked. StarGazer
So here's the deal: Between being sick, work being wicked busy, everything being sore because it's pissed at me for trying to get back at the gym after 3 weeks off... fuck this challenge. So instead for this last week, I will get to the gym when I can, I will get all of the sleep, and I will get my bills paid. That is it. Anything else is icing on the cake because life. StarGazer
LA LA LA LA LA So Monday I was totally sure I was not going to make it to the gym. I didn't go first thing in the morning because after a long and exhausting day Sunday (the excitement, anxiety, stress, and depression that was going to the AFC Championship game and my boys not pulling out a win in a close game) I really needed to sleep in. Plus my legs were still sore from Friday because I suck at taking it easy enough coming back from a break. Ugh. Anyway, despite thinking I would not go in favor of just crashing early when I got off work, I went home, got changed, and went to the gym. Was it a record breaking workout? Absofuckinglutely not. But I got in there and I put in work and I made some improvements over the last time I had been in there doing the same workout, so I count it as a victory. I did a hell of a lot more than I would have if I had just stayed home and slept. Wednesday was the first full workout with the new trainer (my old one got a promotion, but to a different location - good for him, bad for me). I think we'll get on just fine as things move along, but I'm still a little hesitant and I think it is because I am resistant to change even though I also get excited about new things. Way to be contradictory, StarGazer. The only thing to really write home about from that workout was my deadlifts. First off, it always makes me feel good when another completely unbiased person tells me that my set up and form are good. It helps boost my confidence that I'm not just dicking around and have at least a vague idea what I'm actually doing when I say "I'm going to do deadlifts" and confidence is something I can usually do with far more of. At CNF, I participated in the powerlifting meet. I had never tested a 1RM before, so I wasn't really sure what I was doing or how much I could reasonably up my numbers, so with a starting point of where I was for 5 reps at the time (not having lifted much for mooooonths) and upping each time, I hit 165lbs on my 3rd and final lift definitely feeling like I should have gone higher. That said, it was a PR so I was still happy. Prior to that I had lifted 155 for a few reps in ... April? Right before life got in the way of the gym for months and months. So I hadn't been anywhere near that number in a while and I was happy with 165 though kicking myself for not going bigger. In December I was able to get into a little bit of a routine into the holidays before i got sick and derailed and, well, this challenge happened. With that I had decided that I wanted to get back to working with 145 (appx bodyweight) or higher for working sets before the end of the year because why not set a goal. I hit it just after Christmas and my following two pre-sick workout sessions sucked. And that 145 was sooooo freaking heavy. Ugh. Now that you've got the background, the trainer wanted me to deadlift so he could see how my form was and get an idea where I stand for going forward. Started with just 65 for form check/warm up. 5 reps at 95. 5 reps at 115. 5 reps at 135 (the previous DL day I had done 5 sets of 3 at 135). Trainer decides I'm doing 155 for 3. And I did. And while heavy, it was easier than the 135s had felt less than a week earlier. That's right, I'm just shy of working sets with the weight I hit for my final lift at camp. BOOYAH New plan: 2 plates by my birthday in May. This should be easily achievable, but I don't care. If I hit it way early, I'll set a new "for my birthday" goal, either a reevaluated DL one or a squat one or WHO KNOWS IT COULD BE SOMETHING UNFORESEEN AND MAGICAL YOU DON'T KNOW. Let's do this! StarGazer
Just to be sure it wasn't a fluke... I hit another 155 deadlift triple this morning. It certainly felt heavier, and afterward I wasn't able to get as much in at lower weight as I was aiming for, but at least I confirmed that I can do 155. Boom! Everything else was alright today, lower squats than I wanted to do because it felt way too heavy to risk upping the weight, not as many DLs as I wanted to do, everything else was pretty much flatline with where it had been, which I'll accept. Now to survive the workday and get to the weekend so I can be a lazy bum 1 Quote Link to comment
