Schaengel
I didn't expect that eating regularly can be so difficult...sometimes I nearly forget it sometimes I don't want to eat even though I'm hungry and so on. I installed an alarm on my smartphone now that reminds me to eat.The challenge to eat breakfast everyday, was really hard the first days and is now really easy and I don't need 2 or more hours to get going in the morning anymore (more like 30-45minutes now yeah) I think I will try to connect my goals more in the next challenge, some of my goals connected kind of naturally and that is quite helpful... I found that stress can derail both my eating goal and my meditation goal, because I tend to "do more" when stressed but don't do it right...so I get more stressed and so on. I found that meditation (funny I know ) and taking brakes with a good (but not new) book helped me to get back on track. 1 Quote My NF-Character: https://www.nerdfitness.com/character/58102 Introduction Or How I started, Challenges: 1 ; 2 ; 3 ; 4 ; 5 ; 6 ; 7 ; RESPAWN ; 8 ; Member of the League of Epicness, Hellfire Club! ...would like to be a Nac Mac Feggle Link to comment
Sagequeen
This is a really simple, silly thing, but not being in the habit of having water in my home has tripped me up. So rather than saying 'oh well' and reaching for a diet soda, I can get in the car and go get water. (Our city water tastes like chlorine and chemicals.) The second thing that could easily trip me up is getting slammed at work - that makes it tough to exercise. To overcome it, I just have to be mindful of the time, and give myself 5 minutes for every hour sitting to do some quick resistance band reps. The Stand Up app is very helpful for this. I worked out during our last team meeting, which lasted like 2 hours. I love working from home. whatamidoinhere
I work midnights, it's really easy to skip "breakfast" and just roll it into a big lunch. I keep emergency fruit, milk, cereal, protein powder and protein bars around the office just in case. Haven't had to use them, but I'm not putting it past myself to try skipping a meal. Waking up early enough to eat my breakfast with the evening shift supper has really helped. As for maintaining the every second day of gym activity, I just read what the other rebels and a few warriors are doing in challenges and battle logs. I'm not the only one having a hard time keeping motivated. I'm also loving the peek into the future, what does a year of lifting look like? It looks like fun. Shidohari
For me it's learning to budget my remaining money after bills are paid better so i can continue getting the healther foods. I just got my first round of healthier groceries this week as suggested by Raincloak. I made some slight modifications due to a recipe i saw on the forums in the slow cooker area (instead of canned coconut milk i got silk coconut milk for the chicken thighs i'm currently cooking in the slow cooker). I am on a very fixed budget Also getting off my lazy butt when i actually have time to do workouts needs to be done. there are 2 days i can do my STEP IT UP version of my workout if i got my backside in gear. though will have to modify the walking part of it for this week as my elderly cat is currently confined to my bedroom until i can make the appointment to put him down to end his suffering (disorientated and bumping into things alot, getting stuck where he shouldn't be). I do get walking in at my primary job if i can't do it at home, but i've fallen off the wagon my step workout. I need to remedy that and hold myself accountable as the step workout replaces the dance party portion of my Lifestyle goals. One last thing i didn't plan on was having to try to fit in the RALLY MISSION CHALLENGES from the Rally app which my healthcare insurance UHC uses. I didn't expect to add on a meditation or stretching challenge which i picked up from there into my challenges here. Have a great day everyone...I shall now get off the soapbox. TriTerrorTops
For me - I'm finding regularly drinking water much harder than I anticipated. I'm a teacher so can't just grab water whenever I want - sometimes I physically don't stop for hours.SOLUTION - Mark out my water bottles with deadlines - by 11am, one bottle down - by 2pm, another etc. I've also told some of my classes to tell me off if they see me around campus without a bottle in my hand. Cheekily send kids to the sink around the corner to fill my bottle.Derailment 2 - Last minute demands of work.My school is awful. Seriously stressful and ridiculous deadlines aplenty. I often get caught up in work until stupidly late doing some pointless paperwork exercise.SOLUTION - Be flexible. Go to the gym before work. Take my agility dots to work and do my 10 mins in my Drama Studio. Can't get to the gym to do Kettlebells - do bodyweight workout in the park behind my house.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote Terror the RollerDino Gorgon | Level 0 | STR 0 | DEX 0 | STA 0 | CON 0 | WIS 0 | CHA 0 | Current Challenge: http://rebellion.nerdfitness.com/index.php?/topic/76190-terror-fighting-to-be-chosen/ MAIN QUEST - Make game roster for my Roller Derby league A Team GOAL 1 - Drink more water| GOAL 2 - At least 2 strength workouts per week (on top of team training)| GOAL 3 - 10 minutes agility, 3 times a week SIDE QUEST - One date night minimum per month with Hubby (no work!) Fridelisan
Now that everyone has had a chance to settle into their challenge - let's take a look at our goals! Are there things you didn't expect or account for? Are any of your goals harder or easier than you expected? Have you learned anything so far that will change how you approach your goals for the next challenge? Then tell us what you could do to get the goal back on track and accomplish it anyway. Even if it never happens, having a plan for how you will deal with complications helps keep you moving forward and working towards your goals. I think that my goals have been quite manageable yet during this challenge. Nevertheless, I can see some things derailing my road to awesomeness in the future. The classes at the dance studio and university gym isn't a problem, I moln forward to them all week. The BBWW on the other hand can be easy to forget or just procrastinate. Especially if I leave the workout until the evening, I come up with different excuses to why I shouldn't do it that day. And one thing leading to another, I ens up just doing one of them, or maybe even none. An easy way to manage this is too schedule those workouts just as I schedule my other workouts. That gives me some accountability.Another of the problems I can see in my future is giving in to my sugar cravings. There are temptations everywhere, from the grocery store, school and the gym to visiting friends and family who offers sweets to the coffee. One way to handle this is to always keep a healthy snack with me everywhere I go, and eat at regular hours so I'm less tempted by the sweets.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk. Even if it never happens, having a plan for how you will deal with complications helps keep you moving forward and working towards your goals. If it keeps being 4 degrees when I wake up, it's going to get harder to crawl outta bed and get to work early xD But I did tell myself if I didn't get it done this morning I'd stay late after work and get it in then. (But I was up REAL late last night, didn't even squeeze in my shower, so I used that as motivation to go to work early and then shower afterward). For my second goal: I've convinced myself that if I don't have dinner handled, I need to use that extra time I'm not cooking that evening to prep the next meal so I don't wind up down 0-2. I don't wanna fall into the chasm of 'I'll do it tomorrow' that winds up turning into "I'll do it this weekend" to "well screw it, I'll do it next challenge". Even if it never happens, having a plan for how you will deal with complications helps keep you moving forward and working towards your goals. My goals are pretty easy and easily accomplished, that's why they are my started habit goals. This weekend I actually experienced derailment of one of my goals. I had planned on going to the gym either Sat. or Sun. One day I had a massive migraine and the other I went to urgent care. I'm perfectly fine now but if I had not gone to the gym on Tuesday last week my goal would have been brought down to a B! Now I don't really have a plan to help accomplish my goal if this happens so late in the week but I will say that attempting to get my gym goal done earlier in the week is going to be something I try a lot harder to get done. The only other goal for me that would be easily derailed would be my reading goal. I'll usually read during my lunch break but sometimes that doesn't happen or I have a headache. A way to help get this accomplished could be set a number of pages to read each day and do it right as I get home and it would be ok to miss 1 day but never 2 in a row. I didn't make it part of my goal to not drink anything else, but it's a happy effect that I'm more consciously saying "No" to sodas and alcohol, even on the weekends. My derailments: I touched on this one in my check in, but this week coming is going to be very busy at work, and I'm worried I'll be too tired to cook dinner, or even not have enough time to heat up lunch when we usually order pizza for grab-and-go busy days. I'm mentally prepared, and asked my boyfriend to run interference when I need it, but I'm still worried about old habits dying hard. Also harder is getting to working out three times a week. Again this week is going to wear me out, but even the past two were hard. Ballad
MINI CHALLENGE #2 Now that everyone has had a chance to settle into their challenge - let's take a look at our goals! Are there things you didn't expect or account for? Are any of your goals harder or easier than you expected? Have you learned anything so far that will change how you approach your goals for the next challenge? For this mini, I want you to think of something that could derail your intentions for 2 of your goals. (Not permanently, but for a given day/workout/week.) Then tell us what you could do to get the goal back on track and accomplish it anyway. Even if it never happens, having a plan for how you will deal with complications helps keep you moving forward and working towards your goals. Is there anything I did not expect or account for?Not this time around! I used what I learned from my last (failed) challenge in 2014 to set myself up for success with this challenge. Are any goals harder or easier than I had expected?1. My reading goal of 2 books is harder than I expected. (I love reading! Why is it taking me so long to complete!) I've been prioritizing reading less in favour of more urgent demands on my time, so I may need to work on making reading a stronger habit - especially since I no longer have a long commute during which to read. 2. My "1 glass of water in the morning" goal is much easier than expected. This already feels like a habit, which is really nice. 3. Scheduling a doctor's appointment was harder than expected because of my procrastination. The good news is that it's now accomplished thanks to the lovely NF folks who have been holding me accountable (thank you!). Have I learned anything so far that will change how I approach my goals for the next challenge?I really feel that the way I've set up my first challenge has been effective. My goals are small enough that they aren’t overwhelming, but they're also significant enough to have a positive impact on my mental health. I plan to continue this approach going forward. What might derail my intentions for 2 of my goals?1. Sleep goal of 7-8 hours/night: Recently, I've been staying out later than I should with friends. Saturday night was a 5am kind of deal, and the last few nights I've been going to bed at 1am thanks for volunteering, birthdays, and other social events. My strategy for dealing with this is to be very conscious of how sleeping in will affect me the next morning. On weekends, it might be all good, but week nights are much hard. For next week (Sun - Thurs), I'll be setting target times of being at home by 11pm. 2. Reading goal of 2 books/month: I could be derailed by not making the time to complete 2 books in the next 10 days. I know now that next week will be pretty busy with work, gym, volunteering, and social commitments. My strategy to help keep myself on track is to set aside batches of time to crush my reading goal this weekend (or to at least get that second book started). Cheers! leglocker
I'm excited about not having man boobs anymore. My goals of completing all of my EMT assignments and eating a vegetable at each meal can be threatened. Right now, I get discouraged when I read a chapter and have trouble retaining the information I just read. This may cause frustration and in turn cause me to give up. I guess, I'll take notes to help with the retention. I'll set my phone background to an EMT certificate so that every time I look at my phone, I'm reminded of my goal. As for eating vegetables at each meal, I'm worried that I could get bored of my meals due to lack of creativity and budget. What I could do is look at the recipes section on the forum for ideas. Even the Vegan recipes might help since I'm probably gonna eat some vegetables there and then throw in some stuff to make it non-vegan if I want (yes, I do want.) 1 Quote | Battle Log |Current Challenge: Better Late Than Never| Previous Challenges: 1 | instagram: @gambitbjj | Winner of the Harry Potter PVP Challenge: House Ravenclaw Link to comment
