I tell him to hold on, I need to do 4 more to complete on my weak leg. He then tries one and apparently his knees were not built for them. The crunch that was heard 'round the world~

 

This is my concern every single time I try something new. Hope there was no lasting damage to body or ego!

I think I'm probably an idiot. I did 72 assisted bodyweight squats today and I'm going to the NerdFitness book tour thing tomorrow night. There will be lightsaber training! I REALLY need to not be crippled by DOMS tomorrow. My legs don't feel particularly bad right now, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I've been trying to space this week out a little better than last week and didn't think at all about the thing tomorrow night.

 We do that in ski hills here as well, but I'm talking about proper mountains without a ski lift. There aren't enough people living here to afford building prepared ski hills with lifts and lights nearby. I could go for a 2-3 hour drive though, if I really wanted to go downhill, but it's even more fun when you've walked up first. :)

 

Hells yeah.  We call that 'backcountry skiing' here and sadly I haven't done enough of that in recent years.  Probably because we had a child in 2010.  I've lugged him uphill in a ski trailer though--now THAT is a workout!  Of course then your downhills aren't quite the same, you spend more time braking and trying not to get run over by the sled than enjoying the ride back down.

I definitely need to add more shrimp squat progressions into my life. I can do the beginner ones but I don't have the balance to get the intermediate or advanced. Grrrr!

 

Next up.....find the patience to do sets of beginner bodyweight and assisted bodyweight.....

Oh man. Really need to get back to doing assisted pistols more often if I ever want to do a non assisted pistol.

 

Assisted pistols are still so freaking hard oww. Now I am shaky. And hungry. :D

I tried an assisted pistol squat...does a quarter squat count? :tongue:  I got part of the way down and my legs noped me down on my ass. But shrimp squats are fun!

I'm not going to lie, I cackled at this. Definitely how I felt on the pistol squat, and hopefully not how the upcoming parkour lesson goes!

 

 

I actually attempted the assisted pistol squat just to say I had. It was tough to find a doorway with enough space to try and the only one that works doesn't have a normal doorjamb to hold onto. I don't think I could have done it even if it did have a doorjamb though, but at least I tried.

 

I also had this problem. For some reason, the builders on this house filled between the doorjambs on the only corner in the house that had two doors near each other. That's not why I failed the squat, but like you said, we tried.

I could not get a good grip on my door so I ended up lowering my pull up bar to about hip height and using that. Worked much better for me! (I know not everyone has an adjustable height pull up bar to work with either tho!)

Even then you could use a bit of rope, a long towel, a pair of jeans or something similar over the pull-up bar. :)

I'd think that'd be more in the balance assisted pistol vs assisted pistol (where you are taking a bit of the weight with your arms.)  Good idea for when I feel up to trying those though! My pull up bar is so useful!
