Jedi Prepares to Build her Lightsaber

"Your progress is impressive, my Padawan," the hooded woman said with a hint of pride.

 

"Thank you, Master."

 

Aria Kenobi's Master had always been hooded. Two years after she received her fortunate scholarship to a University on Naboo, effectively offering her an escape route away from the burning suns of Tatooine, the woman had approached Aria by way of an anonymous message. Aria, realizing that the schooling she had done her last few years on Tatooine and these two years on Naboo had softened her- significantly, had begun attempting to train herself with the hooded woman's suggestions. 

 

Recently, the hooded woman had accepted Aria as her Padawan learner, leading her in more specialized exercises and training her body. Today she met with Aria to make an important announcement.

 

"Aria, today I come to help you learn how to prepare your body and mind so that you can construct your lightsaber. You have a few weeks to prepare, then I will take you on a journey where you will construct your lightsaber." Aria's hazel eyes widened.

 

"Thank you, Master," she bowed slightly. 

 

"No thanks necessary," there was a smile in the woman's voice, "You've earned it. Now, I have four tasks for you.

 

First, is mindfulness. Continue your food journal, be mindful of what you eat. I know that you have a wider selection of food here than you did on Tatooine, but your body must be strong and healthy to make it through the creation of your lightsaber. Which leads me to your second task-

 

Continue strengthening your body. Do different sorts of workouts, stretch your body, push it. The better your control, the less likely you will cut your own arm off when practicing. Your life depends on this.

 

Thirdly, keep pushing your flexibility. You may not specialize in the more acrobatic lightsaber forms, but you will learn them all. 

 

Fourthly, study these texts. This information will help you when the time comes to build your lightsaber."

 

"Yes, master," Aria said respectfully.

 

"Now, get back to your studies, child, and know that I am proud of you."

 

Aria smiled, bowed once more, and left the hologram room as the blue image of her master fizzled out.

 

 

I decided that I liked Lyniffer's story format and I figured I could use it to build up my NF character. I've got a whole story thought out that I can use over the next few Padawan challenges.

 

So, Aria is getting ready to build her lightsaber! It's a big step in the milestones of a Padawan. While I won't be building a lightsaber, I will be choosing a new screen name here on the forums at the end of this challenge. Any ideas are appreciated!

 

Mission #1- Track Food

Log all food in my notebook and on here, if I overeat I can log privately and discuss the issue here publicly.

 

Log all of the days- A +4WIS

Log some days- C +2WIS

Log rarely- Fail

 

Mission #2- Work Out 4x/Week

Those can be any sort of workout- yoga, bodyweight, lifting, anything.

 

4x most weeks- A +2STR +2CON
Less than 4x most weeks- C +1STR +1CON

Rarely- Fail

 

Mission #3- Stretch 5x/week

I can do better than three stretching days/week, I'm doing this almost every day.

 

5x most weeks- A +3DEX +1CHA

Less than 5x most weeks- C +2DEX +.5CHA

Rarely- Fail

 

Mission #4- 30 mins Solo Programming/week

I'm going to try to spend a half hour programming my personal projects each week. 

 

30 mins most weeks- A +3CHA

30 mins rarely- C +1CHA

Little to no programming- Fail

 

I'm going to report in here weekly so Aria can report to her master, and I'm still doing my food logging. We'll see how the new challenge structure pans out.

  • History of Magic: Spend some time in adding to my programming language knowledge

After spending the weekend prepping for her next tasks from her Master by buying and prepping good food as well as taking care of school work, Aria woke slowly to the small noises of her roommate leaving for the day. After checking the time and seeing that there was still a few moments to rest, she dozed back off. Soon, she reawoke, wondering why her wrist comm hadn't gone off yet. Checking the time again, Aria realized that her alarm hadn't gone off! However, all was not lost. she was only 5 minutes later than expected. 

 

Soon, she was dressed and on her way to the school's well stocked gym facilities. After a hard but successful workout and subsequent flexibility routine, Aria went home to settle into the routine of her day.

 

Aria was going to make her master proud.

 

So this morning my alarm didn't go off, but thanks to the toaster oven timer, I was only half asleep for the last 20 mins or so. Made it to the gym and still had plenty of time to prepare for my day.

 

I'm thinking of doing a bonus 'mini-challenge' if you will. I'm going to try to eat only one carb-based thing per meal for 22/26 days. Carb based foods in this situation would be things like rice, potatoes, bread, ect. Since I rarely snack, I won't bother with snacks since my snacks tend to be pita and hummus or fiber/protein granola bars. Kinda carb-y, but enough protein to balance it out. 

 

I have so many extra days in there because my birthday is this weekend (21- whoot!) and I'm going out to eat and get a couple drinks and such that night. Though to be fair, the rest of the weekend will probably be pretty healthy as normal even with a guest. Reward for this challenge will be... Hmm. Maybe a good one would be to make the crock pot chicken and wild rice soup that requires white wine since after this weekend I'll be able to buy my own. Rather than just buying myself an alcohol, I'll just get something to use to cook a healthy meal with. 

 

I'm rather proud of myself for the fact that I did not acquire a leftover cupcake or a chocolate chip cookie bar from the work kitchen today. I got my tea and left. I'm currently working on said cup of tea. 

 

Today has been a great start to my challenge so far- now I hope that it stays that way :)

I like your format.  Tracking food and making time for exercise is great.

Thanks :) I have actually gotten to the point where I structure my class schedule around having two days a week where getting up and going to the gym doesn't sound miserable (I.E.- too early). 

 

Tracking food is something that's always been weird for me. MyFitnessPal is hard because I tend to make a lot of my own food and don't know in advance how much a serving size will be. Or like with my homemade sandwich bread, I'm bad with cutting things so each slice of bread is different. Lol.

Opening the cabinet in the work kitchen when hungry is a BAD life choice. It's the cookie/chip cabinet. We were out of hummus and pretty much anything with a decent calorie/carb/protein or fiber ratio and I was scrounging.

 

But I didn't eat anything from the cabinet

 

I needed the granola bar I hadn't eaten, and I was hoping I could find something a little less carby than the granola bar since I had a sandwich for lunch, but since it's a snack and I made a serious effort to find something else I'm not going to count it against me in regards to my carb mini-challenge. 

 

I have resisted temptation and not fallen pray to the dark side and it's delicious cookies!

 

Currently drinking (yet another) glass of water before I go snag another cup of tea.

Fiber One granola bars are... a problem.

 

(before someone goes off on a rant about how granola bars are useless hunks of sugar and carbs- yes I know they're not ideal. But I don't have but so much that I can do. And a granola bar in my lunch is better than eating an entire bag of Goldfish crackers in an abortive effort to have some extra calories in my lunch so I'm not useless for half the day) 

 

But yeah. I handle fiber well, I used to take fiber supplements at meals for a while. I quit doing so, but I never had any problem with the fiber from the get go. I opened this box around a day ago. I had one for breakfast yesterday and felt odd for the rest of the day. Today I had one for breakfast and one in my lunch that I didn't eat until I realized there wasn't anything else to eat. My stomach hasn't felt like this since the last time I heavily overate at an awkward time of the night.

 

Yeah. PSA and good deed of the day.
