GET ME OFF OF THIS CRAZY THING. These 4 Week Challenges just come and go too fast--okay, okay, relax, don’t panic, I’ve got this thing. Alright, let’s try this again…

NEW CHALLENGE GET. I wasn’t sure what theme to go this with time, to be perfectly honest, but after I got canned, I knew. The ragtag trio’s constant pursuit of a job (and food) just kinda works for me.

I’m channeling Samurai Champloo this go ‘round for my latest and greatest challenge. So without further ado, up first is...

Mugen (STR+3)

Mugen’s name means “Limitless†(or “Infiniteâ€), and that’s just my speed when it comes to gains. He’s unpredictable and ever so slightly unstable--ALSO like my gains. So basically he is perfect. In case you haven’t picked up on it yet, GAINS are number one here. I want to get to 250 Wilks by the end of the challenge...preferably sooner than later, plzkthx. Oh, and I’m going to try to learn to power clean. This is going to be HILARIOUS.

 

The plan:

Lifting gains: Get to 250 wilks for Day 0’s weigh-in (lift a total of 435lbs @ 112lbs bw, 440 @ 114 bw): 3/wk

Learn Powercleans - 3/wk > 1/wk:

  • 3/wk - Week 1: Practice the 3 parts of the power clean: 

  • 1/wk - Week 2-4: SS-style progression starting with empty bar

 

The grading:

Lifting gains: A = 3, B = 2, else F

Powercleans: A = 3, B = 2, else F, P/F

Jin (WIS+2,DEX+2)

Jin’s name comes from one of the precepts of Budo--benevolence. ‘nuff said, right? He’s a ronin who has a strong sense of right and wrong...and immediately butts heads with Captain Limitless. * coughs * Way to keep your eye on the ball, man. A man of great discipline and skill, he is the perfect inspiration for my novice martial arts practice.

 

The plan:

Aikido - 2/wk: do the thing

SKD - 3/wk:  do the thing

 

Just...do the thing. Practice, go to class, put in the time.

 

The grading:

Aikido: A = 2, B = 1, else F

SKD: A = 3, B = 2, else F

Fuu (CON+3)

Fuu is the glue that binds the trio together. Without her to settle constant budding violence between her traveling companions and remind them of the important things (searching for the samurai who smells like sunflowers, food, money...), there would be no show. She travels wherever the road takes her in her enigmatic quest--free as the wind.

 

While it’s great to be a traveling nomad, it’s not so great to let all responsibility fly away. I am holding fast to my maintenance levels from the previous challenge, since they have been working for me just fine. To ensure this remains the case, I’ll be taking before and after challenge measurements.

 

The plan:

Maintenance - 7/wk: Macro target: 2300 / 230 / 102 / 115

 

The grading:

Maintenance: P/F

 

 

 

And of course, the ubiquitous....STARTING STATS:

Weight: 112.8 lbs

Waist: 22.9"

Hips: 30.8"

Biceps(L/R): 10.0"/10.0"

Forearm(L/R): 9.0"/9.0"

Thighs(L/R): 19.8"/19.8"

Calves(L/R): 11.5"/11.5"

WEEK 1 DEBRIEF!


Mugen - A


Gains (lbs): 0/13


PC - 3/3


So far, so good. I did the powercleans, darnit, and I am right at the cusp of making gains every session with squats, soon deadlifts will follow suit. Assuming I follow the schedule, bench will lag. That's okay. So long as I don't get greedy, I should be able to raise the 3RM bar quite a bit. 


 


Jin - A


Aikido - 2/2


SKD - 3/3


I did the thing. In Aikido, I am beginning to get Ikkyo down. One technique down, two to go! I got my butt out of bed on Saturday and went to SKD class. Winning. * coughs * We're going to the Cherry Blossom Festival in March. Uh oh. Is that two Events in each art come March? I'll have to check the calendar...


 


Fuu - A


        Cal/ Carb/ Fat / Protein

TGT:  2300 / 230 / 102 / 115


I freely admit I didn't measure on Sunday, but my weight on Saturday was 113.0 lbs. A whole .2 lb increase. The reason for this is the numbers would be jacked up due to Shark Week, so...no point taking 'em until that clears up. But look at that protein average. W00t! It is both over my 1lb/lb BW baseline benchmark AND over MFP's baseline. That alone is a victory.

Mugen - A

Mugen is proceeding nicely thus far--I've caught up my working sets to my current max weights, and should be making a lot of progress going into next week. PCs are shaky, but improving with practice (and dedicated time to do so without deadlifts interfering). 


 


Jin - A


Aikido - 2/2


SKD - 3/3


A round of Judo and some serious kotegaeshi practice for Aikido--lots of suburi for SKD. No class because #wutsleep


Fuu - A


8:30 Curfew: 7/7

Ahahaha, that average. So skewed. On the plus side, though my weight be down (111.6 vs 112.8), my measurements are stable or way down (left thigh was the winner with a .6" decrease), with only one increase at .1". Combined with the steady progress I'm making, I'd say my water curfew is the logical explanation and retained water is now no longer being retained. As we go into Week 3, the answer will bear out~

Okay, boys and girls, gonna do a little math here to show what my LIFTING GAINS subquest really amounts to. So, My XRM for each of the lifts in question are:

 

Squat - 150

BP - 75

DL - 195 (!!)

 

for a total of 420 (Lbs, Sam Ashen). I weighed in at 112.2lbs on Wednesday, so with that weight I currently am at 241.5 Wilks. My goal is 250 Wilks. Just 8.5 Wilks points to go...sounds easy, right?

 

At that weight, I need to hit a combined total of 435 lbs, aka I need 15lbs in gains to make this quest. 15lbs, 3 lifts, 5lbs each (lol yeah no). More like plan for 5lbs on the squat, 10 on the DL, and hope the BP goes up some so I make well clear of my goal. This may not be so hard after all....

Thanks, it felt really good. Hard, but good. Not TOO hard, though, I think I can crack a triple soon-ish...

 

My total for today was 415lbs, and I weigh in at 112.8 (modified starting stats to reflect this), so my goal for this challenge is to lift at least 438lbs. THE GAME IS AFOOT.

 

 

Also, I decided weekly measurements was kind of unnecessary. I'm holding steady, and will probably still take them anyway, but I'll stop harassing you all with my stoplight deltas. Might increase my macros a smidge, not sure.
