This is a story about Schaengel, who went out of his comfort zone to find adventure and capture his dreams.

It will be a long story. A story with setbacks and triumphs. So if you like a (hopefully) interesting story, follow allong...

This is Schaengel our main-character. Even though not really out of shape (anymore) he is still working hard to become better everyday to achieve his two life goals ,living a happy life and leaving the world a little better place.

I know what you might be saying, "what a dreamer". But like Son Goku the result justifies the means. And if the means are being a dreamer than that's okay.

 

Like Son Goku Schaengel will go on a big adventure and you can follow him the next 8 weeks (or two challenges on this adventure)(Of course this is stretching the normal 4-week-chalenge but like the wise monk lu-tze once said:

“Look, that's why there's rules, understand? So that you think before you break 'em.†      )

(Week) 1.Preparing for the travel:

Like Goku, our hero will need some equipment and preparation before he can go on such an big adventure so week 1 will be dedicated to prepare for the travel.

 

unnamed.pngGoal one: Getting the Dragon Ball Radar

Son Goku (or more precisely Bulma) got a Dragon Ball Radar to keep him on track. Guiding him and showing him directions and what to do. That's what our adventurer will need

 

To do's:

- Finish the travel itinerary for the China & Japan trip (China is provided by the university, Japan needs to be done)

- Finish the two week plan (Tokyo & Kyoto)

- Find the best way to use phone in Japan (and by that having a navigation-system) Order

- Book ticket's that can be booked from Europe

- Book bus and hotel

- Buy the last travel things (padlock, SD-Card, new jacket)

 

DRAGON_BALL_XENOVERSE_Badge_1.pngGoal two: Finding the first Dragon Ball

The first Dragon Ball might be nearer than our hero thinks. So leaving home should be done the best way, and that way is with the dragon ball. For that our hero will have to look everywhere he normally goes without thinking...

 

To dos:

- briefing the university project team (so that the team can work without the dearly missed hero)

- write 6 articles for the football club (1 nearly done 5 to go, every missed article will lead to a blank page in the stadium-magazine) Moved to week 3

- leave the house in a presentable way

- look for a body weight workout that can be done in hotel/hostel while traveling

- pack everything

 

(This Quest will be completed when 4/5 tasks are done, the university goal is mandatory)

 

DRAGON_BALL_XENOVERSE_Badge_2.pngGoal three: Finding two star Dragon Ball

the second Dragon Ball will bring our hero to the far away city of Beijing. To stay positive and relaxed our hero will have to do the following things to rule weeks three and four to get his second Dragon Ball.

- write 2 articles for the football magazine on the flight

- Meditate daily (even though your traveling and the rest of the university traveling party probably won't understand)

- 3 Workouts (body-weight, since running in Beijing won't be a good idea (smog))

- Take lots of pictures (and post instagram pics for friends at home)

- Write a travel log every evening

 

(Goal is achieved when meditation and travel log are done and workouts need to be at least tried twice)

Our hero needs to do things that will scare him or seem strange to him to become more powerful. Since our hero often has a problem with eating food he isn't used to (unlike Son Goku who will eat everything everywhere) his challenge will be to try one new thing to eat per day while away...

 

(Goal achieved when tried 20 new things (that way travel-days where I might be to grumpy to try something new))

Our hero will Continue his quest in march, when he will travel to Japan to find the remaining Dragon Balls and use his wish to start in an awesome new semester at his university training session with Muten Roshi.

To find Shenlong and get his wish granted our hero will have to find all seven Dragon Balls (measurements for the goals will be added later today). If he does he will get his wish (a chalk set for bouldering) granted (even though the travel is a wish coming trough already)

On the first day of his adventure, or hero started his day rather late because he kept studying late the night before.

He then proceeded to prepare his self for the journey to come. After many minutes of browsing and bartering he managed to pick up all items necessary. Only a jacket worth of a hero wasn't there but he got the knowledge of a dressmaker that could probably fit his needs. The rest of the day he used to read all the scrolls he had on the foreign land he would soon find himself in.

 

(Okay now for the challenge: got nearly everything that I was still missing for the travel except a good soft-shell jacket that I'm hopefully going to pick up tomorrow in the sport-shop near my home. The rest of the day was reading and writing. Finished all relevant parts of "Lonely Planet" Japan and the overall two-week plan. Also finished collecting all information for Beijing (since this is a university-group trip not to much planning to do) and finished writing and composing all information for day 1-3 in Tokyo. Started to plan Day 4 which is going to be Disneyland (first time ever :D but really out of my comfort-zone) and was overwhelmed with everything you can do there...made a list with priorities and going to finish the preparation tomorrow. Also read 50 pages of a (bad written) travel guide to Beijing.

 

I started this trip (the japan part) with the goal to avoid "overthinking" it and I think that is going okay. I'm planing the days but keep everything quite easy. I try to add no more than 3 things to see per area and plan without exact time schedules (except for the things that absolutely need to (watching football-games and the palaces mainly). Also I'm keeping some day's open to just walk around and see what interesting things might catch my eyes.)

Day two, decided to do the "story-writing" not on an every day basis because I need to write a lot of different stuff before I leave to China (even though I like it and I think it improves my English )

Okay today I continued to write the travel plan, hope to finish on thursday (also I will need the time because weak two will be hard with all the writing).

Got a nice soft-shell jacket for the trip (and also a compliment while trying it, that's still new to me and I really enjoy that :D)

When my bank speeds up (I have the "luck" to always choose the slowest bank in Germany I think) I can finish all bookings tomorrow and will pretty much be ready to go...also I get excited more every day for the travel :D

Okay Day 3 Update:

 

Booked Hotels for the first stay in Tokyo and the stay in Kyoto. Also booked the Bus to get to Kyoto and Back. Finished my plan for the 4 days in Kyoto. Started cleaning the house.

I found out that (strangely) booking things (like hotels) from home is really getting on my nerves (because I always see the risk to book "wrong") strangely I don't have that kind of problem when I'm in another country and have to decide something. I also started to look for "new" and tricks to get this "overthinking and hesitating for long times" out of my system/under control.

On the sports side (that is not a special part this challenge) I will get my 3 workouts + the small AMRAP challenge from the assassins guild so I'm on track :D

Doing stuff from home is just weird sometimes... I just stayed back at my workplace 2.5hrs so I could enrol in tutorial from there cause I knew if I tried to do it from home I'd muck it up.

Sounds like all the planning is going according to... plan...

Doing it from home might be a part of it. The main problem (and I know that) is that I am absolutely risk-averse. That's part of why I started doing things outside my comfort zone (like the Japan trip) because especially in the field that I want to work in you need to manage risk but also need to take chances and that's what I want to work on.

Day 4:

Didn't do much of my list for the week today but finished some parts of the next week already. Also bought >60 Hot Dogs for the Super Bowl Party (I feel bad already for all the junk food that I'm going to devour on Sunday...sometimes).

Went to my training group and realized while driving that today is "Fat Thursday" (Karneval) because the city-streets were nearly empty. I was in charge of our training today and so we did a 3 circuits of 45seconds each of:

 

- push ups

- dips

- superman planks

- beginner shrimp squats (training for the assassin mini-challenge ;) )

- burpees (I love to hate them)

- side planks

- flat leg raises

 

After that I spent my evening watching carnival in the TV while checking the forum and reading up on the NF-blog tips to stay fit on my vacation.

So a okay day but need to pick my pace up to finish my goals for the week :/

Day 5:

Finished so much today, YEAH!

Finished all hotel and travel-connected bookings, just one more day for all the fun-related tickets and then I'm good to go.

Started with weeks two cleaning the house mission and finished all information collecting for the whole travel so I could nearly start tomorrow XD

Today I will go to a birthday party so it was probably good that I finished some of my goals early since tomorrow will probably be a not really productive day :)

So today was a miserable day... because the party yesterday was really good and I decided to drink with my friends (and I changed my lifestyle the last year and normally don't drink alcohol (except for 4-5 special occasion per year)) so long story short...I was hungover and felling icky the whole day. Somehow I managed to clean the parts of the house that will be used for my party tomorrow (still have to vacuum everything and prepare the food) but today is pretty much over now. ordered pizza half an hour ago and will spend the rest of the evening on the couch (+internet/tv) and regenerate for tomorrow...

Wow your doing really great! Sorry I haven't been keeping up with your updates, I just read through them. As long as your taking care of yourself (which sounds like you are), I'm sure you'll feel better in no time.

Okay a quick update to recap and get back in the writing game.

 

So the last day were really mixed of ups and downs... cleaned the whole living area of the house so not to much work to finish the house-goal.

The Super-Bowl/birthday party also was nice but really long (went to bed at 5:00AM and had to get back up and out at 9:00) so the next day was kinda lost to.

And today I woke up to realize that I have a cold and that with only 8 days till the Asia-travel begins. So I will skip the training today and probably on thursday and will try to eat better (even though there are still so many hot dogs left over from the party).So yeah struggling but still fighting...

First thanks for all the good wishes, that really is a motivation for me.

 

Today was a mixed day I would say. I did do a lot of productive things but none for my challenges.

I achieved today:

- meeting with university-traveling group

- preparing the interview for the university project

- preparing to finish the paper that the student council gives out to the new students

- cleaned the house (only need to finish one bathroom and my room)

- cooked a low-carb dinner

- returned books to the library (and got new books)

 

Beside that was the rest of the day pretty much drink tea, work a little bit, rest, repeat. But I'm feeling a little better already only the coughing is still really annoying.

 

Hope to rock the interview tomorrow and finish up the stupid paper so that I can relax the last days before the travel, also decided that I will try to write some of the texts for the football paper on the flight so that it stops stressing me.

DAY ?? (seriously don't know which day of the challenge it is so will add that later)

 

Still fighting with the cold (booh) got rid of all the symptoms except for the coughing (of course the most annoying is the one that sticks).

Nonetheless I worked on cleaning my room today and also preparing most of my stuff for the travel (pretty much everything except clothes).

If I push myself hard enough tomorrow I can probably finish 4/5 of week 2 goals and the last one from week 1. So yeah I'm on track.

Re-examined my travel preparation (because I was freaking out yesterday (thanks to my sometimes very protective dad) and felt like I forgot everything important and it would be a total failure) and looks quite okay I only have to weight and measure my backpack for the flight and have to check if I'm allowed to take my powerbank with me. Also to pack but that has to wait till all the clothes are cleaned (uh yeah also did two! whole batches of clothes today).

 

But most important went to an interview with the city's event department for our university-project (which at the moment pretty much is my project with friends that will have to work someway later in the project) and it seemed like we had won that battle before we entered... they told us that they read and enjoyed the paper if written as an starting point for the project and would love to work with us. So hooray maybe we get to fix that before I leave the country. Awesome!!

Also they hinted that they have some positions for our mandatory internship. I will write them tomorrow to see what they have to offer.

It would be nice to stay with one agency through the next month (also it would probably raise my chances to get to write my bachelor thesis with the theme I have in mind while cooperating with a company) but on the other hand I may get lucky with a bigger more international company when I wait till I'm back and put a little more work in it. Will have to think about that today.

Will finish my day with meeting my "some kind of girlfriend" later to spend some time before I'm away. :)

Friday:

 

I need to get my sh*t together, it's just two more "real" days till I'm leaving and I feel like I still have to do a million things... It's not like I didn't done anything but I didn't do what I planned...because there were always new things coming up that were urgent...so it's kind of frustrating...

 

The cold and I are still fighting but I'm positive that I can win that fight before Tuesday (if I can't it will probably be an very hard and tiring flight :/)

Nonetheless I started doing some reps for the assassin-challenges (because I really won't to finish that one :D )

 

Today (Saturday) I will attend our monthly anime-meeting (it's a regular meeting in Koblenz for Anime/Manga Nerds (and more Fandoms of course) and I'm one of the helpers there) so today will be about a lot of nerd stuff (hooray :D).

 

Tomorrow I will try to pack and also set up an instagram so that I can post pictures from my trip. :)

Saturday: "Aniko"(animexx meeting Koblenz) all the day. Got up early (hooray for coughing) started the day with tee and reading for half an hour. After that prepared myself and drove to our meeting. Helped to prepare the rooms and then did ~3hours of tombola selling (which is nice because it's the position in the center were you can sit with the most team members at a time) so a lot of talking and good times.

It was an really busy day with over 400 participants so when I didn't had work to do I went for a walk (fresh air, and quite for some time) and ended up picking up pizza on the way back...okay :/

Ended the Day with some hours of playing Cards against Humanity with some Friends (all Cosplayer so sometimes really different humor than me)

 

Sunday:

Planned today as a lazy day, ended as a really busy day...

Finished my parts of two projects and gave important input to two more projects.

Visited nearly the whole family in the area to say goodbye before the trip and packed 2/3 of my backpack already also cleaned  my room more.

Still need to do tomorrow:

- prepare internship aplication

- clean bath

- finish cleaning room

- print all important documents three times (two for trips + copy at home)

- bring books back to the library and try to find a "chines for dummies"-book (I already have Japanese for dummies and that's quite good )

- finish packing

- prepare instagram and tumblr acount

- prepare kindl (skripts for the first week that I will miss (because Japan > University)

- check back with bank for second card

- order Tokyo Disneyland Ticket

- finish early NOPE, meditate, have a relaxing bath go to bed early NOPE and enjoy the last night at home

 

After that my father and I went to our favorite pizzeria and now I'm finishing the day with sweetened winter-tee-mix and a good cooking competition show ("Kitchen Impossible" German TV don't know if there's something similar in other countries but that's one of the cooking shows I really like)

Monday evening or the BIG UPDATE ;)

 

It is 11:30pm now and I finished everything that I wanted to finish before going away. YEEES

The rooms that I'm in charge of are overall better looking then the last year, I packed enough stuff to probably survive ;) but still so little that it will be a real adventure travel. And I prepared everything university related at my best and even better than I planned to.

The only things that I didn't mentioned to do was getting soccer tickets will try at the stadium) and going to bed early today, but I think that is okay (maybe I will fall asleep while flying and ditch the jetlag that way).

Had a little down-time in the evening when I burned myself while making tee and smashed my favorite tee-pot. There are things that for me feel just right and remember me of only nice things and that tee-pot was such a thing so I'm really sad for smashing it (I will try to find like a replica when I'm back but I fear it's gone for good :( )

Also I found out today that I will start the travel with +4kg :( so I will be extra cautious with what I will eat to get those extra kilos melting while traveling...

Nonetheless I'm really motivated for my first real adventourus alone travel, this feels like finally growing up.

China Update number one:

After around 15h of total travelling we arrived in Beijing. Had a short pause at the hotel then meet up with our teachers/guides that will teach us some Chinese the next day's and show us around.

Had a 1and1/2 hour walk around our Hotel(and tried fried scorpio on the street...tasted a little like a very dry peanut). Finished the day with Chinese style dinner,so many dishes on the table and take what you like(I need to relearn eating with chopsticks >_<)

I will try tomorrow to find out how to upload pictures via tapatalk...

Goals:

Meditation - Yes twice on the flight and in the hotel

Try new food - Yes (a lot of airplane food that I wouldn't have tried before and of course scorpio xD)

Travellog - tomorrow because roommate is sleeping so lights out already
