Alright folks, it's time for my 2nd pregnancy fitness challenge! I'm overweight and I want to have a healthy pregnancy. I need to take care of myself and my baby, so my goals will reflect that.

 

Goals:

 

1. Eating for Two: Since I am no longer eating for just one person, I need to make smart, healthy decisions about what I put into my body. I have to get a good balance of vegetables, fruit, dairy, and protein so that the baby develops properly. I also need to watch my sugar intake due to my family's history with gestational diabetes. At the end of each day, I am expected to have eaten: 1-2 servings of fruit, 2-3 cups of veggies, 3 servings of dairy, and 3 servings of protein. 

 

2. Exercising for Two: I need to workout a minimum 30 minutes of 3x a week. My current goal is to get used to exercising 3x a week for a few minutes and then work my way up from there. By the end of this month, I expect to be able to do 3 15-minute workouts a week. I will be alternating between yoga and walking for my workouts.

 

3. Rediscover My Love of Cooking: I used to love cooking. Overtime, I began to feel overwhelmed and grew to hate cooking. I actually stopped cooking for a long time. When I started eating Paleo, I started cooking for myself and enjoyed it. But I hate cooking for anyone else. I recently read an interesting article where families cooked meals together and it sounded really fun. It's hard to feel overwhelmed when you're sharing the responsibility. So my current goal is to cook 6 meals with my husband.

 

4. Have Fun: Sometimes I get so focused on what I need to do that I stress myself out. I need to take at least one day a week to sit back and have fun for a few hours. I can do this by reading, playing games, or watching tv for 1-2 hours.

 

5. No Phones After Midnight: I have trouble sleeping. There are several factors I can't control (heartburn, baby moving) but there are some that I can. I have decided that I am not allowed to use my phone after 11:30pm. I can put it on the charger but I can't touch it until the next morning.

I decided to check my BMI based on my current weight. With my baby weight, I'm 161 lb. Without it, my weight is approximately 151-156 lb. When I first got pregnant, I weighed 172 lb. My baby girl loves fruits and veggies, so my diet has been good (and thus caused me to loose some excess fat). My current BMI is 26, which is on the low end of the overweight scale. I'm pretty content with my weight. I don't care if I get a bit heavier on the scale as I get closer to my due date, but I'm hoping to loose a bit more fat before she's born.

I'm currently at my chiropractor ' s and figured I would start my food log while I'm waiting. Since I had half of a large soda with lunch, I'm not going to drink anything with caffeine or a lot of sugar. Which means if I really want coffee,it will be decaf.

Breakfast : 1 apple

Lunch : chicken nuggets, fries, and soda

Well, I got a lot done on day 1 in spite of my late start. My doctor's appointment went well. My chiropractor asked my husband and I if we know what we're having. We told yes and that it's a little girl. My chiropractor was actually impressed with how I looked coming in. Most pregnant patients develop back problems, whereas I seem to have a better back. I can start exercising tomorrow since my back will be able to handle it, so today gets to be a laid back day.

 

Supper:

2 1/2 16 oz glasses of chocolate milk

2 bowls of taco salad

 

Yesterday's recap:

 

Eating for Two: I ate 1 serving of fruit, 2 bowls of veggies, 3 servings of dairy, and 2 servings of protein. I should have eaten a bit more protein, but I am pleased with the fact I ate as healthy as I did (considering that I ate lunch out).

 

Exercising for Two: No exercising. I had to rest my back after my chiropractor appointment. 0 of 3 workouts completed

 

Rediscover My Love of Cooking: I can't believe actually got started on this on day 1. I got a craving for taco salad and asked my husband if we could make it. He cooked the meat and I made the salad. 1 of 6 completed

 

Have Fun: 0 of 6 completed

 

5. No Phones After Midnight: Did I use my phone after 11:30pm? No.

Today started off later than I wanted to. I started to wake up with my 9:00am alarm and then fell back asleep until 11:00am. Ugh. But the good news is I went to sleep a little after 11:00pm instead of 2:00am. I guess I just have to get my body used to going to bed earlier. Emmy woke up with my alarm and started stretching her arms. It feels like she's doing sun salutations. :P:) I've got my first cup of coffee (half-caff so that my brain think's it's getting a full pot) and I had breakfast. But now for the most important question of the day, what should I make for lunch? I went grocery shopping yesterday, so I have plenty of options. 

 

Breakfast: 5-6 plump strawberries

Looks like you're off to a solid start! Also, taco salad is definitely the best of salads.

 

 

Or it's at least up there anyway. :tongue:

 

I agree. We usually have leftover salad in the fridge for lunch but it was so good that we ate it all last night.

Well yesterday was busy. I dropped my husband off at church for a men's Bible study, went out shopping for a few hours, picked him up, made homemade soup in the crockpot, and took him to band practice. I was really tired and forgot about checking several of the threads I'm following. But I'm really proud of the soup I made. It's a family recipe (I had to mod cook time for the crockpot) that uses veggies and meatballs. I've never made it before and was a bit worried about how it would turn out. My mom gave me a list of ingredients but no exact measurement for each one. So I had to taste it until it tasted right. However, my husband decided to try it since it smelled so good. He's not a soup person, so I was a bit surprised. He really liked it and I plan on making it a few times over the next week. But next time I'm putting more veggies in it.

 

Food I ate in no particular order:

3 bowls of soup

2 glasses of chocolate milk

1 apple

1 Icee

1 giant salted pretzel 

 

Hubby and I had a fight that was induced by my social anxiety the day before. After I realized what caused it, how crippling it is, and how my husband makes it worse by aggressively trying to tackle it head on (I don't tackle problems head on like he does, I take more time and need a battle plan), I've decided to add it as part of my on-going quests. I had my social anxiety in control for a long time, but a couple years ago I got into a really destructive friendship that brought it back with a vengeance. Ever since I had to leave that relationship behind, I've never left the house without my husband. I've pretty much stuck to him like glue or hid behind him. I either hid behind him or retreat to somewhere private so that I don't have to deal with people. One of the first things I realized I needed to do was go out somewhere by myself without him, and maybe talk to a few strangers. Goal: Slay the Dragon of Social Anxiety: Leave the house once a week without my husband. Bonus: Talk to strangers.

 

Week 1, Day 2 Recap

 

 Eating for Two: I ate 1 serving of fruit, at least 2 cups of veggies, 1 servings of dairy, and 2 servings of protein.

 

Exercising for Two: 0 of 3 workouts completed

 

Rediscover My Love of Cooking:  1 of 6 completed

 

Have Fun: 0 of 6 completed

 

No Phones After Midnight: Did I use my phone after 11:30pm? Yes.

 

Week 1, Day 3 Recap

 

 Eating for Two: I ate 1 serving of fruit, 3 cups of veggies, 2 servings of dairy, and 2-3 servings of protein.

 

Exercising for Two: I turned on my pedometer while I was out shopping. Unfortunately, it picked up a few steps when it wasn't walking. Like when I got in or out of the car or hit a pothole while driving. It said I walked 1.5 miles, but I think it was probably around .75- 1 mile. 1 of 3 workouts completed

 

Rediscover My Love of Cooking:  I considered adding the soup, but I cooked that by myself for me so it doesn't count. 1 of 6 completed

 

Have Fun: 0 of 6 completed

 

No Phones After Midnight: Did I use my phone after 11:30pm? Yes.

 

Slay the Dragon of Social Anxiety: I left the house and talked to 4 complete strangers. 1 of 6 completed

So I bought some more tomato juice and meatballs for the soup. I'll get started on my first big batch of soup tonight, after I help John with cooking Italian dinner.

But congrats for working on the social anxiety dragon! I try to smile or say hello to people I see in my neighborhood when I go for a walk, so maybe that's a way you can do two goals at once :)

Yeah, they do. Unfortunately when my anxiety hits I have one of two responses: curl up in a little ball until it passes or become angry at everyone and everything around me for no reason. Hmmm, saying hello to people in my neighborhood isn't too bad of an idea. I don't know most of my neighbors (I moved during Christmas).

 

It was! I was too tired last night to start on a new batch. :( But that just means I get to make it today! ... as soon as I wash the crockpot.

So I spent part of yesterday installing the Fitbit app on my phone and working on my character sheet. The rest of it, I don't remember.

 

Loki decided to hop in the baby's crib and take a nap. As far as I know, this is a recent development. For a long time he showed no interest in her crib whatsoever. But now we have to keep him locked out of the nursery.

 

Yesterday's meals:

 

Breakfast:

1 bowl of leftover soup (all veggies)

1 cup of chocolate milk

 

Lunch:

2 cups chocolate milk

1 greek yogurt cup

1 apple

 

Supper:

Italian dinner: 1 sausage, 1 plate of pasta, 3 slices of bread

 

:nonchalance:  Man, I really wanted dairy and starchy carbs.

Thanks. :) It's easier for me to talk to moms with babies or toddlers right now since I can find out about all the neat and useful baby things from them. I had a mom recommend a brand of swaddle blankets to me when I while I was window shopping for one.
