msuroo
Brief week one recap: -Pretty good about extra credit...I think I only missed one day? -Interesting career stuff happened. I posted for a new position at work, and now the senior leadership in my current group is trying to talk me into staying. I'll talk more about this at some point, but tl;dr - good to have options I guess. -Didn't get the camera out once, whoops. Diet has been mostly on point for the past 3-4 weeks - been on a little mini cut to shed some holiday fluff before we go on vacation in a couple weeks. Had one outsized day on Saturday, celebrating my brother-in-law's birthday, but other than that have been dialed in, and scale and mirror are both reflecting it, so yay. Speaking of that dinner on Saturday - I had camel for the first (and last) time. We went to a really interesting butcher shop/farm-to-table restaurant, and they apparently do some more exotic meats. The waiter says "the only thing on the menu that isn't local tonight is the camel" and I'm all "...um, did you say camel?" He says it's comparable to beef and to order it like you would order a steak and that people have been liking it soooo, fuck it, I gave it a shot. I can't even describe how meh it was. Like, it wasn't bad, but it looked and tasted exactly like an Outback steak. Not exactly what I was hoping for from the farm-to-table butcher shop, ha. Oh well, live and learn. And now I can say I've tried camel. Week 2 underway! Squats are still feeling heavier than I think they should, but no troubles this time at least. Been a while since I've done any block lifts, and I forgot how much I like them. I feel so fast! They weren't all great, but more happy with them than not. Ran out of mental focus juice by the end (tried to get this sesh in while also watching the kiddos, so was distracted a fair amount), so snatch balances weren't awesome, but that's life. msuroo
Week 2 update! Did some more workouts: Full lifts went way better than last week, so thumbs up there. Jerks continue to be the weak point. Jerked out of the rack up to a heavy single yesterday - up through 95 without much trouble. Couldn't quite stick 100 (but it was really close). Goals! 1) Less good about extra credit. I got my dip bars mounted in the garage, and have been getting a fair amount of those in, but could still stand some more band work. 2) Career stuff in motion - interviewing for that new position this week, but still not sure what I want to do. More conversations to be had yet. 3) I actually took some pictures this week! I still suck at this, but here's some shots anyway. This is from the Valentine's bouquet for Mrs Roo. I don't think there's anything particularly unique or creative about this shot, but flowers are pretty so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Sidenote, had these pegged for her office since she is actually working in an office for the first time in a few years, but Baby Roo got sick so she had to stay home on Friday. Oh well, I tried. I was playing Carcasonne Jr with Lil Roo, and for the first time, he really figured out the game and was super proud of it. Used that as an opportunity to try and take an interesting picture. Didn't really love any of them, but hated this one the least. And then I threw a black hat (3 double bulls) in darts for the first time ever. I'm a relatively good dart thrower, but I've never managed to pull that off before (and I don't even want to think about how many thousands of darts I've thrown over the years). I've hit 180 a number of times (3 treble 20s), which is actually worth more point wise, but there's something pretty exciting about squeezing 3 darts into that tiny bullseye. Anyway, again challenged myself to take an interesting picture of it, and came away with my favorite shot of the weekend. I was having a conversation with one of my friends afterward, and we were discussing that as novices, it's easy to get seduced by macro shots like this, since the detail and depth of field are things we aren't used to seeing. I really need to get outside and work more on composition, but all in due time I guess. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote Challenge thread Link to comment
raptron
Hey, the whole point is to improve. You're not going to love them all right away.
