Train to run the PARE

On Feb 28 I run my practice PARE test. This will tell me how close I am to actually passing it (if I don’t actually pass it during the practice run). Then I either go ahead and run it for real soon after, or develop a 3 month plan to GET me there.

Cardio 4 times a week

Weight Training 4 times a week

Feeling in control of my environment helps me feel like I’m in control of my headspace too, and vice versa. Get a chore list set up for both myself AND the husband to check off tasks (use colourful markers)

Kitchen (fridge, dishes, floor, COOKING)

Bathroom (toilet, tub, sink, floors)

Vacu-dust (living room)

Garbage run (kitchen, bathroom, cat litter)

Follow portion set up and food lists, I get 4 units of veggies, 3 units of fruit, 5 units of protein, 3 units of carbs, 1 unit of healthy fats, 1 unit of nuts/seeds, and 4 units of healthy condiments. Use wisely (note: I will purposefully underutilize carbs and over utilize veggies, that’s allowed because otherwise I will over utilize carbs)

Record food habits

Prep food in advance to make life easier

Control alcohol intake

Limit mindless eating

On today's schedule I have:  

1-teaching upper body, maybe at 2 pm, maybe not at all depending on how many people want in.

2-doing chisel balance at home AS SOON AS I get home. Going to exercise my willpower muscles here to achieve this

3-I suspect that I will need to stretch my shoulders out today after the two workouts.

Garbage run (kitchen, bathroom, cat litter) -->already done!

Follow portion set up and food lists, I get 4 units of veggies, 3 units of fruit, 5 units of protein, 3 units of carbs, 1 unit of healthy fats, 1 unit of nuts/seeds, and 4 units of healthy condiments. Use wisely (note: I will purposefully underutilize carbs and over utilize veggies, that’s allowed because otherwise I will over utilize carbs)

Record food habits --> So far I have used 1 protien unit, 1 carb unit, 0.5 veggie unit, 1 healthy fats unit, 1 condiments unit. That was breakfast. I should probably update MFP too.....

 

Prep food in advance to make life easier--> fish is ready for dinner tonight. Going to pair it with rice and unknown veggies. Going grocery shopping after work, as hubby is sick at home.

 

Control alcohol intake --> no alcohol until the monthy wine event. That's the goal, let's stick to it!

Limit mindless eating--> so far so good.

Not gonna lie, hearing about everyone talking about it on Stars thread a few months ago really urged me to download it. I LOVED THE FIRST GAME. I even enjoyed Awakening. Now I'm on hte seconds game and enjoying it. Not the same level of love because it's a different game, but it's not as bad as I had heard it was going to be.....

Yesterday teaching went great and I did my shoulder flexibility stretching YAY! But I had a sick hubby to take care of at home so no home workout done. He has officially caught the flu going around here. Eeeew....

On today's schedule 1- cannot attend my planned spin class because coworker out sick and I can't leave the office unattended

2-Hammer Plyo at home because I need to workout and sick hubby can just sacrifice the tv to me for that time.

3-probably going to do the lower back, hips, and thigh stretch out

I have the ingrdients for slow cooker meals for the rest of the week so I'll get going on prepping that.

Work on writing everyday, even if it’s garbage --> got an idea started yesterday, might flesh it out a bit more today with prexisting ideas I have floating around my saved files lol

Looks like a very solid challenge my friend. Plus, don't beat yourself up over the progress pics. We are all a work in progress (some of us, like me, more than others :P ) so some fluctuation will occur. Question though: you're taking the practice PARE but if you make a passing time, it'll count?

Looks like a very solid challenge my friend. Plus, don't beat yourself up over the progress pics. We are all a work in progress (some of us, like me, more than others :tongue: ) so some fluctuation will occur. Question though: you're taking the practice PARE but if you make a passing time, it'll count?

LOL, it would also help if I could manage to get some decent lighting and consistency with my poses. I suck as a photographer, just so you know.

 

the practice PARE is just a practice run. Sadly even if I get a passing time I still have to do it again for the official qualifier. But if I DO manage to pass it in the practice run HOLY SHIT YES. It would be a hell of a confidence booster.

LOL, working on it. Right now my hubby is laughing because I managed to drop fat off my body but gain weight. He's convinced that I am secretly Wonder Woman in disguise because it's apparently not normal to bulk muscle and cut fat at the same time.

A few different things can contribute to that. It's not the norm sure but it's not super unusual if you meet certain criteria.

 

 

Hubby needs to read NF more, lol. A really solid start to the challenge!

 

I'm just happy the fat is coming off. I would like the scale to go down as well, but I'll take fat loss over scale movement. I've a long way to go before my body is where I want it to be, but I will get there. Dripping in sweat and trembling with well earned fatigue, but I'll get there!

Yesterday went topsy on me. Thanks to weather a coworker couldn't make it in. So I missed spin class, but I managed to catch a foam rollre core pilates class. It felt great to stretch things out, so flexibility is DEFINITELY checked off. It worked my core a bit but was no where near as hard as I was expecting it to be. Not sure if that's on the class or on my core....

Today I have:

1-Bootcamp --> tends to be total body so a bit of everything

2--so Strength Chisel --> also whole body, and it kicks my ass everytime

3- Flexibility--> not sure what needs stretching right now but I'll pick something and work on it.

Life happens. Sometimes we just play the cards were dealt. I'm sure you'll make up for yesterdays loss in todays Bootcamp!

 

Hope your hubby gets well soon, that'll be much easier on everyone!

 

I'm not too worried about it. I constantly schedule too many workouts into my day with the understanding that if I miss one, I have to do the other. But with a sick hubby at home, I cannot workout. 1- he has the heat in there cranked to uncomfortably hot for me as it is 2-I am focused on getting food and water into him in any way possible. 3- I really don't want to catch what he has and the best way to avoid that is to get rest and recovery in from my earlier workout

Yesterday was boot camp which felt awesome. Today I have advanced spin class which is going to wreck me. Still not able to work out at home, because I think hubby has devolved into bronchitis. And I do not want.  Forgot to do flexibility work last night which annoys me but at the same time I spent so much of yesterday running around getting stuff to help the hubby. Food that he could eat and that would hopefully STAY DOWN. Meds to try and help him breathe.

Any which way I feel very annoyed that I feel like I am slacking on training for the PARE, and yet I am still working on fitness. I think it's because I'm not doing anything to really push my running speed, which plays a big part in the PARE. The suggetion I got was skip rope; 1 minute on, 1 minute off, for 20 minutes. I think hitting a treadmill and doing some stair work would help too (I hate running, but treadmill is necessary as running outside= slippy death)

Prep food in advance to make life easier--> there are a dozen peppers in my fride that need ot be chopped, and onions to boot. Get home, put dishes away, prep food. Do stair runs, then stretch.... THEN game :P

 

Control alcohol intake --> no alcohol until the monthy wine event and no real urge at the moment.

Limit mindless eating--> Did great on this yesterday. Tried to make soup at home for hubby. Thought it was chicken noodle. It was onion soup. He threw it up. Went to Tim Horton's and bought him chicken noodle soup and resisted the urge to get myself a donut while there. GO ME!

Work on writing everyday, even if it’s garbage --> This has been a WILD SUCCESS this challenge so far. Not sure how or why but I am loving it. And it is doing wonders for my mental health :D:D:D:D:D

I, too, am awful at plank :( My upper ab strength is pretty awful! So I feel your pain.  YAY on nailing your writing!!

 

I think next challenge I will need to address this issue head on. LOL. I have great core strength, which is why I am surprised my plank sucks. Some of it is shoulder related I think.

 

I also suck and body tricep dips and I KNOW that one is shoulder flexibility related.

I would be willing to bet it's a combination of the condition of your upper body strength vs. the fraction of your body weight your shoulders accept when doing the plank. You could attack this problem by doing lots of planks...or you could do upper body lifts and test your plank weekly...options, you has them.

I would be willing to bet it's a combination of the condition of your upper body strength vs. the fraction of your body weight your shoulders accept when doing the plank. You could attack this problem by doing lots of planks...or you could do upper body lifts and test your plank weekly...options, you has them. 

 

I'll probably attack it head on with daily planks of differing lengths. I meant, I actually love the plank/shoulder tap move because it makes my arms feel dead sexy after, so I might incorporate some of that into it as well just to make it extra enjoyable :P I don't hate plank, I just wish I was better at it than I am. So, practice makes perfect.

Train to run the PARE

Yesterday's spin class was awesome, and brutal. Because I had not slept well the night before. BUT I got lots of sleep last night so I feel great today.

1- I am teaching today! Total Body workout, which is a great way to wreck myself for the weekend LOL.

2- I am supposed to try a skip workout from 1115-12 today which should REALLY help my cardio out lol.

3- I'll be doing shoulder stretches throughout the day, discovered that I can do them at my desk yesterday and it REALLY helped me get them in.

Act like a responsible Adult

Feeling in control of my environment helps me feel like I’m in control of my headspace too, and vice versa. Get a chore list set up

Kitchen (fridge, dishes, floor, COOKING) --> we're going out to a wine event tonight so yeah, not happening

Bathroom (toilet, tub, sink, floors) --> going to do a quick spray and leave before event tonight

Vacu-dust (living room) --> hubby did some yesterday because he is home bound and BORED

Garbage run (kitchen, bathroom, cat litter) --> DONE

Eat to live

Follow portion set up and food lists, I get 4 units of veggies, 3 units of fruit, 5 units of protein, 3 units of carbs, 1 unit of healthy fats, 1 unit of nuts/seeds, and 4 units of healthy condiments. Use wisely (note: I will purposefully underutilize carbs and over utilize veggies, that’s allowed because otherwise I will over utilize carbs)

Record food habits--> today was a full breakfast day because I kind of forgot to eat dinner last night.... oops.

Prep food in advance to make life easier --> I forgot about the wine event tonight so the food prep got stuffed BACK into the freezer.

Control alcohol intake --> Tonight, monday, and possibly another day next week all involve alcohol. Wine event, wine event, friends wanting to get together to chill. I will do my best to be good.

Limit mindless eating --> I resisted the double chocolate muffin this morning, and the brownie yesterday. Go me.

Practice and Consistency

Not being good at something is allowed, but not working on getting better at it isn’t. All of these things will help me and I need to work on doing them.

Work on shoulder/body flexibility DAILY--> got this in yesterday during the day, going to do hte same thing today. #stretchingatmydeskdontjudge

Work on chin up, handstand, pistol squat weekly -->all of these already got worked on this week but I will be working on them AGAIN today yay!

Work on writing everyday, even if it’s garbage -->YESSSS THIS FEELS SO GOOD!!!!!!!! *victory dance*

Progress pics and measurements at beginning and end ONLY --> 1 belt notch tighter today folks. I wil lsee progress this month in those pics, I know it!
