Raptron Strings Together Unrelated Goals to Work on in an Arbitrary Length of Time

Totally agree. Some of the other countries have better choreography but the US women's is just bleahhaughhghh boring.

Also, it turns out my friend's ankle is very badly sprained, which really, really sucks but is better than some other alternatives, so phew on that front.

Day 9

Cardio kickboxing at work with 15 minutes of rough stuff core exercises at the end. Then, as it was Fat Tuesday, I went to my friend's and we ordered super cheesyyyyy pasta and pizza and I picked up pastries from an italian bakery to enjoy for dessert. I am not religious at all, but I grew up Catholic and LOVE anything remotely resembling a holiday, so I tend to celebrate the bookends of this season -- Fat Tuesday and Easter. I grew up in Chicago which has a huge Polish-American population so I am used to Paczki Day. Unfortunately, it's hard to find them around here, so I make due with what we've got. I've made them once, but it is definitely more of a weekend undertaking than a casual weeknight recipe.

Got home, cleaned out some dishes and played some Overwatch beta.  :cool-new:

Events: vault 2/5; beam 3/9; flyaways 1/5

Lifts: 1/6

Core: 6/20
Empty sink: 3/8

Day 10

Skipped NP because I didn't want to go to "field day" -- the stairs were covered in snow still. I also took the day as a work from home day because I was feeling very drained. Now, I am a hugely social animal, but I hadn't really gotten any time to chill out since last week and I am leaving right from work on Friday to go to Vermont for 3 days with my team mates. Plus, I felt like a WFH day was deserved after I trekked out on both Friday and Monday to make it into the office during the snow when practically no one else did.

I didn't have much work to do either as most of the people I work with are out on vacation this week, so I did a bit of work, watched some Angel, and played Overwatch until the evening when we went to our D&D game.

I stand by my choice.

Events: vault 2/5; beam 3/9; flyaways 1/5

Lifts: 1/6

Core: 6/20
Empty sink: 3/8

Practice tonight -- eyeing flyaways and bars for sure. Might try to get a bit of vaulting in as well. Plus core conditioning because woot woot.

I'm excited for the ski trip but um.... this is the forecast:

It's a real thing in the US though. :)

Just like St. Patrick's Day or corned beef isn't a big deal in Ireland, the immigrant populations affix new meaning and significance to holidays when they move here and wind up merging with the traditions/dates of other diaspora in the area.

Packzi is literally a thing I have never heard of until this year and I'm wondering how that happens but also where can I get them.

Awww yeah, gymnastics visibility in the greater sports world. I love it.

Re: Paczki -- The ones I made fresh were 1000x better than any others I've had before. But, to be fair, I kind of feel the same way about most fried things -- fresh is always better, but I will not complain about slightly older donuts of any shape or size. :D

Nobody wants a sprain, but it definitely beats some alternative case scenarios. Anything that can be described as "like a doughnut" is okay in my book.

Guess I just missed the donut train... When it comes to Polish things my big weakness is my grandma's szarlotka (apple cake), I can eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

My heart's space is unlimited when it comes to baked goods and pastries. I WELCOME THEM ALL. <3

For sure.

Day 11

Went around and touched all of the events on Thursday. Beam routines, yup, with some difficulty, but they were ok. I am really going to have to get my round-off up on high beam soon because these dive cartwheels are a hard sell to a judge. I was completely unable to stay on during turns today -- turnitis is a real problem that affects 10s of gymnasts across the nation.

From there, I just went to vault for handsprings... yawn... so boring. There were a few decent ones but I've pretty much forgotten entirely how to block properly for a nice post-flight off of the vault table. By the time I think about it, I'm already on the ground. That said, getting more time in doing these silly things is helping me be more sure in my steps, hurdle, and pre-flight at least? Consistency is good.

Uneven bars was weird. I felt as though I was slipping off on basic moves. Annoyed, but not deterred, I still got up on high bar work on eliminating the pause before the flyaway. My last one maybe possibly could have been seen as a fluid transition... But yup, then we ended with basic tumbling and dance on floor. I should get back into doing front handspring + front pike passes at the end of practice for that tired/endurance training, but I haven't yet. Cored up at the end.

Nothing spectacular but it was a very thorough practice.

I know this was a few pages ago buuuut Firestone brewery is local and I totally need to see if I can hunt down that beer; it sounds fascinating! Most of their stuff tends to be on the hop-splosion end of things but they are good in moderation for me! (I can't do back to back IPA/super bitter stuff. Too rich!)

Assassin extraordinaire!!
