honeybadger
Not really sure what happened here but I did actually post my new challenge. Here it is again... No time for a fancy theme just some solid goals! This challenge I will be focusing on training for a 3 hour (pedal for a cure) spin-a-thon I have signed up for the first weekend in March. This will be my second year and I couldn't say no because I had so much fun last year. The format of the event is 3 consecutive spin classes taught by 3 separate teachers. My last few challenges have been more focused on running so I need to get back in the saddle- literally! Goal 1 RIDE!These goals will focus on attending spin class and extra 2 hour training rides throughout the month. Class is sometimes difficult to make because of work and traffic but that's why I set the goal at 3/4 classes. Training sessions should be easier to make one of them is on a holiday and the other two are weekends. There is a 4th session that I can't attend because I am working…bummer. 1a- Ride twice a week, run once (I've made too much progress running to stop for a challenge)1b- Attend 3 out of 4 possible spin classes1c- Attend 2 out of 3 possible training rides Goal 2 DIE(T)Ok I might be being a little dramatic here…. I have struggled with what to set as a new diet goal for a while now. I am fairly attached to my not horrible but far from perfect diet. My everything in moderation approach has allowed me to eat yummy junk food (cookies) without guilt. This approach has also led me down binge road a few too many times. I accidentally had a few grain free days last week and then intentionally kept it up for the past week. So maybe I should make it a goal…see how it feels. I will be continuing to keep a food log and noting cravings etc. I just won't be making it an official goal. 2- Eat grain free more days than not that means at least 4 out of 7 days! That's it. It almost feels too simple. Oh wait…I forgot (just what happened last challenge) Goal 3 Abs!!! 3- Do abs (any type) at least 2x per week JUST DO IT I thought about making a "keep up with Tank's thread" goal but then realized I'm already too far behind…maybe next time 4 Quote Ranger/Recruit/Professional Do-gooder Challenge #1, Challenge #2, Challenge #3, Challenge #4, Challenge #5, Challenge #6 Challenge #7, Challenge #8, Challenge #9, Challenge #10, Challenge #11, Challenge #12, Challenge #13, Challenge #14, Challenge #15, Challenge #16 , Current Challenge "The Hardest thing in this world is to live in it. honeybadger
Week 1 wrap up Week 1 not so bad all things considered. I seem to have picked some type of bug that threw off my workout schedule for the week. I did manage to hit all of my goals for the week and should be able to rebound for the next 3 weeks. Goal 1 RIDE!Missed class and the first training ride thanks to whatever this bug is. Bummer. I might ned to revise goals 1b and 1c if the weather starts to interfere too much or if I get sick again. 1a- Ride twice a week, run once (I've made too much progress running to stop for a challenge)- Rangered I was able to get two rides in yesterday and today. Today's ride was only an hour and not the endurance ride I was planning. I am still feeling a little off so I figured it was better to play it safe.1b- Attend 3 out of 4 possible spin classes- 0/41c- Attend 2 out of 3 possible training rides- 0/3 Goal 2 DIE(T)Very proud to say that I have done really well with my diet goal. Totally Rangered this week. My non-grain-free days were very minor infractions (one day there were bread crumbs on my chicken and rice in soup). No binge days…yet…I am about to eat some super bowl treats. 2- Eat grain free more days than not that means at least 4 out of 7 days!- Rangered 4/7 Goal 3 Abs!!! 3- Do abs (any type) at least 2x per week -Rangered (only had to get out of bed to do them once because I forgot!) honeybadger
Overall, a solid week. 2/3 goals Rangered! I'm most proud of how well I am managing my diet. I am also surprised at how well that particular goal is going. I hope weather and/or work don't get in the way of my gym goals for next week. Goal 1 RIDE! 1a- Ride twice a week, run once (I've made too much progress running to stop for a challenge) Rangered! I ran on Tuesday (which was fun and felt awesome). Spin class on Thursday (less fun but still felt awesome) and easy 45 min bike ride on Sunday. 1b- Attend 3 out of 4 possible spin classes- 1/4 there was no way I was missing class unless there was weather or an emergency at work1c- Attend 2 out of 3 possible training rides- 0/3... Still but I will be attending my first 2 hour training ride on Monday Goal 2 DIE(T) 2- Eat grain free more days than not that means at least 4 out of 7 days! I was grain free 5/7 days!! One of those days I only had what ever breadcrumbs were in the slice of meatloaf I had for lunch. The other day was full on spinach pie and cookies. That really was my first legit "cheat" meal. I am super proud of this and I am really finding it much easier than I had anticipated. I have seriously been considering making this change for a long time but was super resistant. I have noticed a drastic reduction in my cravings and over indulging. I have not notice a significant in how I feel when I don't eat grains...BUT I did notice that I felt pretty bad when I DID eat the cookies and the Spinach pie. Goal 3 Abs!!! 3- Do abs (any type) at least 2x per week - Not Rangered. I don't know if I even thought about doing abs twice this week. honeybadger
Week 3 wrap up Goal 1 RIDE!This week ended up having 2 long training rides in it. Yay and ouch. I missed Thursday spin because I got stuck at work. 1a- Ride twice a week, run once (I've made too much progress running to stop for a challenge)- Rangered!1b- Attend 3 out of 4 possible spin classes- 1/41c- Attend 2 out of 3 possible training rides- 2/3 Rangered! Goal 2 DIE(T)Diet goal continues to go well. Totally Rangered this week. Definitely ate more crap on the days I was not grain free, that's not great. 2- Eat grain free more days than not that means at least 4 out of 7 days!- Rangered 4/7! Goal 3 Abs!!! 3- Do abs (any type) at least 2x per week- Abs…what abs... honeybadger
Week 4 and challenge wrap up Week 4 sucked. Work was crazy and I let it totally throw me off. I also forgot to account for the shortness of "week" 4. I did not get my first workout in until Thursday due to work…As a result, not much Rangered this week. The challenge went well overall even though I did not Ranger all my goals. I am still struggling to adjust to the new format. I have not yet figured out how to make it work better for me. Goal 1 RIDE!I made it to spin on Thursday. This was my first workout of the week and last official workout of the challenge. Not much Rangered. 1a- Ride twice a week, run once (I've made too much progress running to stop for a challenge)- Not even close to being Rangered. If I extend the challenge to Sunday it would have been. 1b- Attend 3 out of 4 possible spin classes- 2/4 I was sick one week and got stuck at work for another. I only made 2 Thursday classes this challenge. 1c- Attend 2 out of 3 possible training rides- 2/3 This was Rangered!!! I would have loved to make at least one more ride but the stomach bug week 1 mess me up. Goal 2 DIE(T)Rangered each week!!!! I honestly thought this would be more difficult. I wish I could say I noticed a huge difference in how I feel on a daily basis as a result of of these changes. I was not eating a huge amount of grain/gluten in my diet to begin with so I think expecting to experience big changes was not realistic. The main thing I noticed was that I had fewer cravings. 2- Eat grain free more days than not that means at least 4 out of 7 days!- Rangered 4/5 days or 5/7 depending on when I count the end of the challenged. Rangered either way. Goal 3 Abs!!!Epic fail! Not Rangered….3- Do abs (any type) at least 2x per week -Nope. honeybadger
Gym day today. I did an easy workout. Warm up on the elliptical and then a quick 2 mile run (20:23). It felt nice to just run…without a specific goal. I hope that running starts to feel like more fun and less work this challenge. I think it will mainly because it will be how I break up my training rides. Food also good for today. Grain free. My co-worker brought in some arrowroot powder for me (I haven't been able to find it anywhere) so I will try a recipe for grain free gingersnaps this weekend. 2 Quote Ranger/Recruit/Professional Do-gooder Challenge #1, Challenge #2, Challenge #3, Challenge #4, Challenge #5, Challenge #6 Challenge #7, Challenge #8, Challenge #9, Challenge #10, Challenge #11, Challenge #12, Challenge #13, Challenge #14, Challenge #15, Challenge #16 , Current Challenge "The Hardest thing in this world is to live in it. honeybadger
How was week 1?I will post an official up date tomorrow but week 1 was not what I was hoping for. Only because I got sick on Thursday which threw off my workout schedule. Luckily Friday was super snowy so I didn't go into work (otherwise I would have pushed through sick or not) and rested all day. This morning I woke up feeling like I had the worst hangover ever and missed the first training ride. I turned the corner this afternoon and was able to do an easy 50 min on the bike. Tomorrow I will do an endurance ride as long as I feel ok, I'll adjust as needed. I should still hit all my goals for the week. I hate that I missed class and a training ride. Diet has been awesome. 4/6 days grain free so far and the variances have been very small. I am totally behind on everyone's threads. More snow on the way this week so maybe I'll get a snow day to catch up. 2 Quote Ranger/Recruit/Professional Do-gooder Challenge #1, Challenge #2, Challenge #3, Challenge #4, Challenge #5, Challenge #6 Challenge #7, Challenge #8, Challenge #9, Challenge #10, Challenge #11, Challenge #12, Challenge #13, Challenge #14, Challenge #15, Challenge #16 , Current Challenge "The Hardest thing in this world is to live in it. honeybadger
My week is off to a good start. Two days grain free so far. Tomorrow won't be. I packed meatloaf for lunch that was made with some breadcrumbs but not loaded with bread. Yesterday was a rest day today was a run day. I ran 3 miles in 29:57 with an extra .25 mile for a cool down. The run felt really good, I threw in some intervals during mile 2 (1 min pick-up with 2 min recovery). It was really nice to run how ever I wanted to after the last two challenges having specific running goals. Thursday spin class is the plan unless mother nature gets in the way. I have some adulating to do tonight which is annoying considering I basically had a 4 day weekend. All I really want to do is curl up with my furry beastie and watch Teen Wolf before bed. honeybadger
You can do it! I find almond flour is a good substitute for bread crumbs in meatloaf, albeit way more expensive.I have not tried general cooking with almond flour. I have done some baking with varying levels of success. This weekend I made grain free cookies that were very yummy. Ha! I love your spelling of the word DIE(T). I feel the pain!!! Grain-free is an interesting challenge. Do you find that you feel better on days you eat grain-free?I wish I could say I have noticed a huge difference when I am grain free… but I haven't. I think that this is because I really was not eating a ton of gluten and grains in my diet to begin with. Or I need to be 100% free for an extend period of time to see significant changes. Some things I have noticed which may or may not be related to my diet changes. I am sleeping better and dreaming regularly. I am also not having significant sugar cravings or feel like I need to eat more after meals. I am also just eating better in general which makes me feel better emotionally. 1 Quote Ranger/Recruit/Professional Do-gooder Challenge #1, Challenge #2, Challenge #3, Challenge #4, Challenge #5, Challenge #6 Challenge #7, Challenge #8, Challenge #9, Challenge #10, Challenge #11, Challenge #12, Challenge #13, Challenge #14, Challenge #15, Challenge #16 , Current Challenge "The Hardest thing in this world is to live in it. honeybadger
I am pretty sure I packed my cranky pants for the gym tonight. I managed to make it to spin class! It was a full hour and a race day ride…hard but awesome. The grumpy came in when I noticed a girl in class with ear buds in. The. Whole. Class. Such a pet peeve. Cranky pants on. Then I stop at the market (this required me getting out of my warm car into the 16 degree night) to pick up a rotisserie chicken for dinner. There was not a single chicken. The cases were empty and turned off and cleaned out. So I bought lunch meat and some Ben & Jerry's. When I got home I discovered the TWD cast was on Inside the Actor's Studio! Cranky pants off! The ice cream helped. Xena
I don't know what my problem is. I would have sworn I was following your challenge all along. I guess we've just been talking about the weather a little bit on my thread. I love that you are focusing on the spin ride in March. Perfect type of goal for this 4-week challenge format. Glad you are feeling better and hope you stay warm this weekend. I liked reading your post about how it felt good just to go for a run after having such strict goals last time. My challenge was kind of like that last time too...more strict in terms of running every day. Now I have a little more room to focus on specific workouts, and it does feel good in a different way. 1 Quote Xena, Level 14+ Valkyrie Ranger January 2017 December 2016 Oct/Nov 2016 Link to comment
honeybadger
I still have to post a summary for week 2...which, I will do later tonight after work. In a nutshell the week went well. I had one day where I actually indulged with a spinach pie and a pizza crust left over from one very picky eater. This was the most bread I have had this challenge. My tummy was not happy the next day. Not sure how much of this had to do with the bread or the fact that I ate more than I normally would have. Last night was my first training ride for the spin event in March. 2 hours of spin. I thought I might die once or twice. With about 30 minutes left I got a horrible cramp in my side/stomach. I channeled Xena...if she can run a 15 mile race through the artic vortex I could suck it up and push through. Diet yesterday was gluten free but not grain free. And French fries happened...and some chocolate... Today is a rest day. Unless my legs are crazy sore tomorrow, I plan on running and then going to spin on Thursday.
