Slayer
Time for a new challenge! Fitness goal one is a continuation of a goal from last challenge: to do yoga 3x/week for the whole month. Now, though, I'm upping the ante to 5x/week, because my real goal is every day, but this gives me a little wiggle room for when life gets in the way. Self forgiveness is good. Fitness goal two is also a continuation: this one was eating veggies with at least two meals a day. I'm going to up this to three servings per day, though this could occur in any permutation (so I could have two at lunch and one at dinner, for example). Fitness goal three: more taking control of my diet. I will strive to eat 14 meals a week with no grains (and grainy snacks would have to attach themselves to a meal). Life goal: finish my rewrite, for real this time. I'll be breaking this down into subgoals for myself, but I'll start here. When I'm having trouble sticking to my goals, I think about the laying brick analogy in the incredible Wait But Why series on procrastination (which you really must read if you haven't). This month, I'm focusing on laying bricks one day, one meal, one workout at a time. Because laying bricks one at a time is the only way you can build a house. 2 Quote Slayer Druid "Welcome to the Hellmouth." Briniel
Hey there, good luck with your challenge! We have pretty similar goals (yoga and veggies and work and stuff ) so I'll be following along. I'll also take a look at that prcrastination series, haven't heard of it yet. Thanks for the link! Foo
Best of luck this challenge! You're working into a pattern that I'd started up last month and LOVE. Regular yoga + more raw veggies - grains = feeling pretty awesome. I originally started yoga because my wife (a yogi) convinced me how much it would help my martial arts, but now I'm in love with doing it for its own sake. Following along for support and sharing joy! 1 Quote Lvl 4 Mystical Taoist Priest "All teachings are mere references. The true experience is living your own life. Slayer
Okay, check-in for last week-- 1. I did so much yoga this week! It was awesome. I think I only missed Saturday. And yesterday, I went to my first class in a studio in a really long time, which was amazing. It was a CorePower class--I don't know if people have experience with them, but I really liked it. I'm crazy sore today! They have free classes on Sunday afternoons, so I think I'll keep going at least to those, and I get a free week this week as a new student. 2. Because I drink green smoothies in the morning and then try to have veggies in some form or another at both other meals, this has been pretty easy for me. 3. Success at this this week! And -- drum roll -- I'm doing a Whole30 starting on Wednesday! Scary, but that should make this a non-issue! 4. Ughhh, I'm making such slow progress on this. I did end up submitting my stuff to Angry Robot at the end of the last challenge, but I really need to get ahead on this! I'm frustrated with how little I've gotten done! 1 Quote Slayer Druid "Welcome to the Hellmouth." Briniel
Woot for yoga!! That sounds amazing I wish they had free classes near my place, I've never been to one. I just rely on youtube videos, but I feel like I could really benefit from someone correcting me.Also nice work on the veggies. I guess green smoothies really help with this, I just like my fruit yoghurt in the morning For the rewrite, you said you might want to cut this into smaller goals? Or maybe you can set a specific time each day when you'll work on this? That helped me with my masters-thesis, it doesn't have to be long, just an hour or two where you'll work on that and do nothing else. I really struggle with organising myself work-wise if I don't have any fixed appointments or times that are work-hours. Slayer
It's been a while since I updated on this challenge! Part of it is that I started a Whole30 (actually a Whole46) for Lent last Wednesday, so I've been focusing on that--which has actually made some of my goals a lot easier! 1. Yoga -- I went to several more yoga classes at CorePower last week, since it was free for the week for me. I would have liked to go to more, but something always comes up. I do think I made three sessions last week, though.2. Veggies -- like I say, the Whole30 has basically made this inescapable. What else would I eat? So it's been good!3. No grains -- yup, no grains at all since last Wednesday.4. Writing -- I'm having a really hard time breaking this up into manageable chunks. If I was writing a new draft, I could just give myself word count goals, but unfortunately, it's not that simple. It's hard to even do it by scene, because some scenes require only minor reworking while others require a complete rewrite. I did get some good work done this week, but, as usual, not as much as I want. I did do a project with myself where I charted my energy levels throughout the day for a couple weeks, so I now know where my dips are. Unfortunately, the biggest one is right as I'm getting home from work, which is one of the easiest times for me to fit in writing, but I usually don't have much focus. As I keep moving my wake-up time earlier, I want to move to doing a little bit of writing in the morning, but I just caught a head cold, so that might have to wait for a little bit. 1 Quote Slayer Druid "Welcome to the Hellmouth." Briniel
Great work on the yoga (I think 3 classes is plenty!) and veggies and no grains I hope you'll figure out a good time for writing soon. As for now, take care of that cold and get better soon! Quote "The way you spend your days is the way you live your life" Challenges: Current | 9 | 8 | 7 | 6 | 5 | 4 | 3 | 2 | 1 Link to comment
Slayer
Last week was a rough week. Thought the cold was getting better, but it's still lingering and dragging my energy levels way down. I stayed on track nutrition-wise--Whole45 is still going strong--but totally folded on doing yoga, which is sad because I had a good streak going. I'm hopeful this week will be better, though, so I'm picking myself and dusting myself off. Here we go! 1 Quote Slayer Druid "Welcome to the Hellmouth."
