Polgara19 Breathes in Stormlight

January didn't go well, so I am rebooting my goals.

I'm in the middle of reading Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive, and I'm finding it very motivating, so I am going to recycle my theme from Jan - sorry!

WordsofRadianceText_2560x1600.jpg

Kaladin

Kaladin spends much of his time training.  This will be me.  I am planning on registering for the Zombies, Run! Virtual Race, and am going to push myself by registering for the 10K.  So I will be motivated. I am scaling back my weight lifting though since I'm clearly struggling to get everything done.

Train like Kaladin (4 weeks of 10K training)

-Goal: Run 3 times a week

Week 1: 5k, 3k, 3k = 11k

Week 2: 5k, 4k, 3k = 12k

Week 3: 5k, 4k, 4k = 13k

Week 4: 6k, 4k, 4k = 14k

Train like Bridge 4 (2 push/pull sessions per week)

-Goal: 2 push/pull sessions per week

Shallan

Work is really picking up, and so I will be trying to capitalise on that and get as much done as possible.  I will work as hard as Shallan did while she was Jasnah's ward!

Study as hard as Shallan

-Goal: Be vetted in C

-Goal: Submit plan for H

-Goal: Be vetted in A (French)

-Goal: Training in I

Jasnah

Jasnah declines all treats.  This becomes important.  This will now be important for me.  I will only eat treats with somebody.  This has worked for me in the past, and so if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Eat like Jasnah

-Goal: No treats alone

I clearly need help with this one, so if I manage this, I will buy myself a new work bag.

Ok, so today is off to a good start.

I ran 5k this morning for the first time in nearly 3 weeks.  I ran on Sunday, but my knees started bothering me after only 10 min or so.  This happens whenever I take a break, so I was glad things were feeling better this morning.

Also, I officially registered for the Zombies, Run! Virtual race March 30-April 11, so I have motivation to train for the 10K by then!

In other news, I am being vetted in French for C, so wish me luck!

More shattered plains!  This is a great theme and can definitely be reused.  Over and over and over again.  In fact, I might just steal the idea someday (with permission). :)

Anyways, I don't know where everyone is at with this series, so I promise to keep my mouth shut.  Does anyone else think that the Stormlight Archives would make a killer tv series someday?

I did the same thing over the holidays.  Don't beat yourself up too much, life happens.  We can't all have Jasnah's iron control

The Zombies race sounds awesome! And it seems like a good idea to scale back training in one area to focus on another that's the priority right now!

Go for it Artemis!  Steal away!  As for me, I am 3/4 way through Words of Radiance now. Loving it more and more with each revelation and development!

I hope the Zombies race works out well.  I had gone off Zombies, Run for a while since I prefer to listen to podcasts (shh... i find music boring and not distracting enough), and with a podcast, there is no way for the story to interrupt.  However, I have now discovered that if I just turn on both ZR and a podcast, the volume control on my apple headphones will pause just the podcast, not the story.  That means I can pause my podcast, listen to the story segment, and go back to Serial or No Such Thing As A Fish, or whatever!  Bonus!

So I'm back on the ZR wagon!

Kaladin

Shallan

Was successfully vetted in C for both French and English yesterday!  Yes!!  That means I can be scheduled for 1 and C for both languages, and A in English!  Supervisor immediately started talking about I, so I guess that's my next target!

Study as hard as Shallan

Jasnah

Am doing well on this.  No treats alone.

I was going to register for a local 10K this spring, but the dates were moved, so it's taking place much later in the year when it will be hot, so I decided to go for this - hopefully more fun!

Ran again this morning.  Almost went past my 3k turn around point, but made myself stick to the plan!

You are always an inspiration to me (he says in a way that is not creepy at all for one adult to say to another) and coming back swinging from a bad spell just cements that.  Good call on signing up for the race. I didn't know anything about the Zombie Run Virtual 10K (that's really a thing?), but I have found that having a race on the calendar is the only thing that really motivated me to be consistent in my running, and I like running.

Not creepy at all!

I hear you on the race, I am super competitive, so having a race is the way to get me motivated!

As for the virtual race - yeah!  They did the first one in the fall, and the next one is at the end of March!  It's either a 5k or 10k, and they send you a bib, medal, t-shirt a few weeks ahead.  Then there is a special release story for the race!  You have 10 days to do the run, and you can do it anywhere/anytime you want!  They keep track of the times and post an online leaderboard.

Anyway, I hope it's fun!

Yay! More Kal! More Shattered Plains! I love the theme, and like Artemis said, this theme could go on for a while and I never tire of it :)

I think it would make an AWESOME TV series one day. Make it a NetFlix Original so they can do 12-13 1 hour episdoes. Books like that, you need a TV series to cover all the kickassery!

That's a cool trick you discovered about the podcasts and Zombies run! I'm with you about not really wanting music for running. Outdoors, I don't want anything, but since I'm stuck on the treadmill for now, I've been trying out different options. I may have to give this one a shot!

Thanks, I was really excited to discover it since while I really wanted to listen to Zombies, Run, I just couldn't deal with music for 40 min!  They instituted external music support a bit ago, so thought maybe it would work with podcasts, but they just lowered the volume.  Doesn't work if you're listening to something like Serial!  Then I tried pausing it, but was worried it would pause the run too - but it doesn't!  Did it using the touchscreen for a bit, but realized I could do it using the apple earphones - wonderful inventions!

Jasnah

This needs a reboot.  I convinced myself to slowly slip off the wagon.  First, it was just a tortilla and nutella, but yesterday I had a bowl of ice cream and candy while I was alone.  Restarting today.  Challenges will be decorating a birthday cake without licking the icing bowl and leftover cake later.  Actually, cake is easier than some things since we are more likely to have leftovers as a couple so I wouldn't be alone.

Finished Words of Radiance on Friday, and... I have no words.  I just can't believe this story isn't over!  Usually, I finish a book and just want more, but these books are just so satisfying and meaty!  Part of me is excited for the next book, but I also think I need time to digest what I've read - because a lot has happened.

Brandon Sanderson man.  Man.

in_the_chasms_by_greatunknown-d85ghxh.jp

Shallan and Kaladin in the chasms, though really Shallan should be in front

Kaladin

Ran 3k again today.  Halfway down the first block though, the middle of my back seized up!  Thought it would loosen, but it's still very sore and stiff.  Not a sharp pain, but like a very sore overworked muscle.  I've never had anything like this happen, so not quite sure what to do.  Have tried stretching, quite a lot of stretching actually, but it hasn't improved.  Hopefully a good night's sleep will help.

Regardless, I've done my first week of running.  Now to actually do some weight/bodyweight

Train like Kaladin (4 weeks of 10K training)

-Goal: Run 3 times a week

Week 1: 5k, 3k, 3k = 11k

Week 2: 5k, 4k, 3k = 12k

Week 3: 5k, 4k, 4k = 13k

Week 4: 6k, 4k, 4k = 14k

Train like Bridge 4 (2 push/pull sessions per week)

-Goal: 2 push/pull sessions per week

Shallan

Work is going well.  Am pleased.  Hope it continues.

Study as hard as Shallan

-Goal: Be vetted in C

-Goal: Submit plan for H

-Goal: Be vetted in A (French)

-Goal: Training in I

Jasnah

As mentioned, this hasn't gone awesomely.  I didn't fall face first into the cake icing this afternoon, but I have just had my second piece of cake while watching the Super Bowl with husband and friend.  But it wasn't alone!

It seems like you are at least off to a great start with your running goal! Nice job getting all three of those in this week.

I've had a similar thing happen with my back while running. My appraisal is/was that I had some tension in my back from something else (camping once, stress another time) that caused me to run in a different than normal manner and tense things up. I rested a couple days, did some non-aggravating exercises to stretch things out and was back to normal before too long. Hopefully you see similar results!

Great work on your running! You're doing well. Bad news about the back, though. If like you say, it's just sore muscle, then it's probably no big deal and you'll be able to run through it – just be sure it's not something more serious. Try having someone massage your back, or lie on a foam roller if you have one, and roll around on it. It might help, and even if it doesn't, it feels really good anyway!

Today has been a good day!

First, I did some yoga, and spent a lot of time focusing on cobra and downward dog. Afterwards, my back felt loads better. Not 100% but definitely improved!

Then, I resisted leftover cake at naptime!! Now, granted, I just had leftover cake with the husband, but if I'd had it earlier, alone, I'd have continued to pick at it all day!

Yay!

Run tomorrow!

I'm fascinated with your "no sweets alone" rule – I'm not sure I've ever heard of anyone doing that before, but it makes sense. I definitely have some closet-eater tendencies sometimes, so this seems like a really great way to counter that. Good work!
