The problem with owl post is that it's quite noticeable. When my Hogwarts letter arrived, so did a Werewolf. It wasn't her fault that she bit me. It was a full moon the night the owl arrived with my letter, and the werewolf had been chasing it through the forest that borders my family's land. I went out into the back yard to investigate the racket they were both making, and the werewolf was startled and nipped me. She returned the next day to apologize and teach me a potion that would keep me docile during the full moons. Apparently she'd learned the potion from someone named Remus.

I was excited about starting school at Hogwarts and learning everything I could about this whole world I had never known about before. When I arrived the first night, all the new students were sorted into Houses. The Sorting Hat told me that I was both clever and brave, and would fit in with either the Ravenclaws or the Gryffindors. I think the hat decided on Ravenclaw because the thought of being surrounded by a bunch of brave people made me nervous.

The Boarding School was a new experience for me, and so I made some goals for myself for the first month to stay healthy and organized:

Goal 1

Stop reading by 10:00pm and go to bed.

Wake up at 6:15am (instead of 6:23am)

Walk to work every day - wear running shoes, carry work shoes

Goal 2

Use the Gym every Tuesday and Thursday

Hike every weekend

Do yoga/stretches/foundation movement at home on "off" days

Goal 3

Pre-cut veggies for morning/lunch

Try steaming kale - anyone have kale recipes???

Make and freeze stew and chili at the beginning of each month

I walked to work this morning!!!! YAY ME!

It's been... months since I've walked to work. It only takes me about 15 minutes, but I have been very lazy and have driven to work every day, even in nice weather. When I first started this job, I was excited to be able to walk, and I walked every day for the first couple of months. So this is big for me. I'm very happy. I also put my book down at 10 and tried to sleep. Took me a little while, but still fell asleep earlier than I have been since I started this book series. Set my alarm for 6:15 and dragged myself out of dreamland.

I made a giant crockpot full of chili last night, so that's lunch. Probably dinner as well. My place smelled awesome this morning after the chili cooked all night. I've never done overnight crockpot chili before, but so far everything tastes better after having cooked overnight :) Also brought some raw veggies to cool the mouth down after chili. I may have made it spicy. I didn't really measure anything, but it looked like a lot lol

Oh yeah, and also went to the gym yesterday. I wasn't able to do much, which makes me think I might possibly be fighting off something. I'm also stuffed up, so pretty sure that's the cause.

Just need to get started on Goal 3 now.

Chili, that's the dish of my people! Try and have some leftovers, as amazing as it is now, it gets even better after a night in the fridge.

Your challenge looks awesome, I'll be following along if you don't mind :D

Well done so far, sounds like you've had a fantastic start!

I have tried steaming kale and wasn't a huge fan of it - it's all soft and weird looking (I probably overcooked it).

However, I have recently started having it raw. You just rip the actual leafy bits off the hard stalk (you don't want to eat that bit, it's chewy!) stick it all in a bowl, add a dash of red wine or balsamic vinegar, some olive oil and a drizzle of honey (only like half a teaspoon depending on how big the portion is - or skip the honey if you're 100% sugar free). Give it a good mix and, if you have time, either let it sit for 20-30 minutes (or stick it in the fridge). And voila! Yummy kale :D

I had steamed kale at a fancy restaurant recently and it was actually super delicious and not at all soggy or squishy. It just that had that horrible bitter taste removed (I think from lightly steaming).

I can't eat raw kale unfortunately. It's just too bitter for me. I make icky faces when I eat it  lol

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Breakfast this morning is fried eggs ("fried" in a tiny bit of water) on brown toast with a bunch of raw veggies.

Lunch will be chili and raw veggies.

And today is gym day.

I'm up plenty early enough to get in some reading time while I have breakfast, and then walk to work.

I've been frustrated that I can't do pull-ups, and that my poor grip strength (which I am working on) is keeping me form being able to hang for very long.

I found this grip-less, equipment-less pull-up alternative:

http://www.menshealth.com/fitness/the-move-that-will-make-you-a-pullup-powerhouse?cid=soc_pinterest_content-fitness_july14_pullupwithoutabar

It's a sliding floor pull-up and I just did a dozen of them on my kitchen floor. It was harder than it looked, but I can do it and it works all the muscles I want to work in my upper body, so that's awesome!!!

Chicken stew in the crockpot. Brunch was egg, bacon and veggies wrap.

Did a huge grocery shop and got all the stuff that will make eating healthy easier for the next couple weeks.

On top of the stew ingredients, I also got the stuff to make more chili.

Also pre-cooked some chicken breasts for lunches. Tomorrow I will cut up fruits and veggies. Too much already done today! I need a break with my book :)

Yesterday's very successful day was followed by lots of fail!

I got to bed by 10:05, but decided to finish the chapter I was on since I wasn't feeling tired. Finished the chapter at 10:25 and turned off the lights....

Then tossed and turned for TWO HOURS. ugh.

Then woke up an hour and 15 minutes after my alarm was supposed to go off, and had so all my careful meal prep went right out the window. I did manage to grab some stew for lunch, but had to get breakfast out.

I was about 10 minutes late for work, and the lady at Tim Horton's gave me coffee instead of tea.

Also, of course, I had to drive to work. I did remember my gym stuff, though! So that's a plus. Two good things are stew and gym stuff. The rest all went to crap.

Oh well! C'est la vie!

Good job rangering through so far this challenge.  I love all that batch cooking.  All that stew and chili sounds good if you haven't been feeling well.  Hope you are better or will be soon.
