More Powerful than a Locomotive... is the goal

Recommended Posts

Greetings fellow adventurers!  I stumbled in here from the local watering hole, deciding that it's time for a change.  I guess this is the place to introduce myself?  I'm going to go point form:

1) Currently overweight.  My goal is to get to 200lbs in 6mths from the 235ish I'm currently at (down from 245 when I first found this site 2 weeks ago).  I knew it was a problem when I had to put on my "fat pants" that I had put away a year ago because the jeans I had been wearing were far too tight.

2) My diet has been the biggest stumbling block for me on my quest thus far: Too much unhealthy snacking, high-carb meals, and general poor eating.

3) My Fortress of Solitude is in Canada, and currently we are covered in snow and ice so my normal workout routine of cycling every morning has been put on hold until the snow melts in May.

4)  I'm very motivated to change my habits due to an upcoming engagement/wedding to my Lois Lane.

How I'm going to do it:

1) I'm going about 85% Paleo.  The way I see it, I'm going to stick to it when I am preparing my own meals and snacks, as well as if I eat at a restaurant and I can have some control over my choices.  But if I'm having my food prepped for me in from somebody I know and it's unavoidable, then I'm not going to complain if it's not Paleo.  This isn't a huge change in habit, normally I eat near-paleo food but throw in sauces, breads, rice, or pasta, and it has caught up to me.

2) I'm committing to working out every morning 6/7 days per week.  BBWW every two days, Yoga on the other mornings, and a rest on one weekend morning.  Need to shed some pounds before I head to the gym and bulk up the muscles.

3) When the snow melts, I'll be jumping back on the bicycle ASAP.  I'm not much of a runner, it's rough on my joints and I feel like there's "no point."

Thoughts? Recommendations from people who have been at this longer?  I'd love to get some input on my plans, that's why I'm here!

And, some general knowledge:

1) Affinity to Superman (if you hadn't caught that yet).

2) I love reading sci-fi, but also non-fiction adventure books and bios.

3) I play bass, drums, and guitar

4) I REALLY enjoy movies, I'm "that guy" that knows about all the movies

5) Part of my motivation is coming from my job: I used to work with teenagers and they were always trying to help me get in shape, so now that I have the time I'm going to give it a real shot.

That's about it for me! I look forward to interacting with you all on our quests!

And in the words of my friend The Flash,

"Life is locomotion.  If you're not moving, you're not living.  But there comes a time when you've got to stop running away from things and you've got to start running toward something.  You've got to forge ahead.  Keep moving.  Even if your path isn't lit, trust that you'll find your way."

Hi blark! I'm new here too! I'm trying to post my intro but the website is giving me a REALLY hard time.

Those sound like great goals to me! I like how you've plotted everything out. I struggle with the rice and pastas as well when it comes to diet. Those things are cheaper and last longer for me and since I have a tight budget for food, buying fresh stuff is tough without going over-budget. I reside in Canada as well! Alberta to be exact so I know what you mean by snow and ice being everywhere haha :)

I can't really offer anything else other than support since I'm new to this as well. Good luck on your journey!

Congrats on the up-coming wedding!
