So anyway. I keep meaning to say: keep on keeping on with your shoulder stuff you're doing now. I wouldn't change a thing about what you're doing until you're doing all of that pain free.

Recovery happens at rest, so you don't want to overdo the treatment ;)

Day 6

Food Stuffs

Total Points:  16/20

Ok, so the first day of being 'loose' with the food proved very hard to decipher points.  I outlined my food below.   Basically I gave myself a full 5 points on breakfast because it was one quarter of the DiGiornio pizza, and I know it was 310 calories.   This is reasonable.    The tacos at lunch were from my ma and pa place.   If I had just the tacos, I'd feel okay calling it a full 5, but I splurged on the shake - because ... Papaya!!!    Dinner, if I had stopped at 4 squares, it would have been reasonable, I had 6.  So damn yummy.    My only snack of the day was evening snack.   So, that's how I got my points.

Foodage:

  • Slice of DiGiornio pizza for BF (5/5)
  • 2 steak tacos on flour for lunch - with a papaya milk shake!  (3/5)
  • 6 squares of quality Chicago pizza for dinner (3/5)
  • WW Brownie with Almond Milk  (5/5)

Move and Do stuff

2 HOURS of Dancing with the nephews!  (Burned  700 calories!)

And yes.   This is how we roll.

Day 7

Food Stuffs

Total Points:  12/20

Yup.  Sunday night gaming is still my nemesis.  Not Your Fathers Rootbear.  White Cheddar Popcorn! OHFORTHELOVEOFGOD- someone brought Tagalongs?!  DOOMED.

Actually the whole day got screwed up and I have some good feedback.     New Rule.  Do NOT front load meals with an overdone breakfast and the idea you can skip lunch to eat an early dinner.  This does not work.

Foodage:

  • 2 burritos and iced coffee BF (3/5)  (-1 for extra burrito, -1 for big coffee)
  • Lunch-ish, thing, snack?   (4/5)   I made it from 9am-3pm then needed something.    Had a bag of chia chips or some such oddness and a piece of cheese.   This seemed reasonable to tide me over.
  • Dinner was spot on.  I cooked it at home.    (5/5)   *But I didn't LIKE it, which triggered the 'eat crap at gaming thing too.
  • Too many Tagalongs to count, 3 servings of popcorn, a handful of Ritz and a hard rootbeer.  (0/5)   *zero control or healthiness to the snacks

Move and Do stuff

I was tired as all get out today.    Exhausted.   I wanted to do nothing but sit around and game.    I forced myself out for a 2.15 mile walk.    So, I am happy to say my streak of burning at least 2000 calories a day has lasted the whole week!

Feed back is good! Use every day as a learning experience and you'll be championing your foods in no time.

Also ugh, NYFRB would have sucked me in too. And white cheddar popcorn and tagalongs? That's just not fair - it's all my favourite food groups: Beer, cheese and peanut butter!

I think a huge part of avoiding binges like that is to really enjoy what you're making for yourself. Cooking and eating healthy will only get you so far if you don't like what you're eating.

Success on the 80/20 rule!

giphy.gif

SUCCESS!  I maintained an 80% on the good path score!!

This is super hard to accept as a success, especially since my eating yesterday was abysmal.    This highlights the seriousness of my perfection or failure issue - I need to find the happy medium.   And not strive for the idea that only perfect goal making is a success.

STEP #4

Keep Arting!

I arted 3 days last week.   I wanted to get a weekend day in, but with nephews and such visiting, there was just no time.   Still made the goal though.

giphy.gif

SUCCESS!  3 days of arting - but let's really try to get 4 in next week!!

Overall a very good week one, and yet my brain is trying to convince me otherwise, simply because I had a less than ideal food day yesterday.   That's some mental bullshit right there!  LOL.   Gonna just keep working on it.

So, all things considered, this was a very good week for you! Sure, you fell off some on the weekend, but that's to be expected, and most dietary plans I see these days in my research try to take that kind of thing into account anyway. If you can sustain this over the month, I really think you'll be on to something as far as managing your diet and exercise is concerned.

Also, don't let the mental bullshit get you down. It's a feeling, not a fact.

Day 8

Food Stuffs

Total Points:  19/20 - The -1 point for today came because dinner was homemade tacos and nachos.   Good news is I used corn tortilla instead of flour (saved on calorie) and skipped the shredded cheese since I was partaking of some of the nachos that were made to accompany the meal.    Homemade is way better than out, but I feel I could have been a little more savvy.   Downside was that I didn't want to disappoint the chef who put all that extra thought into it.    Point well worth the loss for that. ;)

Snackage:

  • Protein Bar at 4pm
  • 4 pieces of pineapple after dinner
  • Fiber One cookie and almond milk.

Lunch Run

Warm up with 2 minutes of walking.

Ran 2.5 miles straight - OUTSIDE!  Because it his 60 today!!! Yus.

Slower pace, but a) outside, b ) lots of wind , c) I ran 2.5 without a break of walking (except for shoe tying) - so I am fine with the slower pace but longer time running.

Art Stuff

Drew a bit for 35 minutes.   New DLC came out on ESO so I was way distracted.  I went back to it after checking out the game.   Also tried a pose that was way above my pay grade, twice.   I suppose the way you learn is to try stuff you can't already do.   Oh yeah that was something a hockey coach once told me.  "Practice the stuff you can't do.  Not the stuff you can."   Anyway.  On left pic, I am kind of okay with HER right arm.   Her left is really hard to figure out, due to a thing I've learned is called 'foreshortening' - which is challenging for even experienced artists. (So I am told.)    Right pic, happier with the arms, but oh dear lord in heaven, my lower bodies need so much help!  LOL

eatMiYSm.jpg  twQAuTFm.jpg

Today's feelings - Frustrating.

A friend's father passed away today.   I was not at all close to the father, but I am very close to the friend.   I think, while I have no feeling of personal loss, I am feeling strongly affected by the empathy I have for the loss my friend feels.     Everything I did today felt frustrating and hard.    Well, I take that back.  Everything after my lunch hour run felt overwhelming and difficult.     Tried to RP on one of my games.   Felt like I sucked.   After dinner I started on pose 1... after 35 minutes I stopped and set it aside to play some much anticipated ESO.   The new DLC frustrated the hell out of me until I left the new area altogether.   I felt like I was overwhelmed and then like I couldn't keep up with my guildmates.  Nothing.     So I went back to drawing, and tried pose 2.    Everything made me want to frowny face.   Just. Everything.

So.   Going to bed now.  Aiming to pick myself up, brush myself off and call for a better day tomorrow.

Firstly, what a great week one! And I feel ya on the perfection thing, it's a challenge for me too, I always feel like I have to be better this time than I was last time. I've been making progress on this mindset and being more satisfied with a good but imperfect effort, or with judging based on intangibles like perceived effort rather than tangibles like time (though there's value in both).

Secondly, we all have days like your Day 8, and there's nothing wrong with frowning your way through it if that's how you're feeling. But you kept at it, even when it was frustrating, and you've got a good mindset to recharge overnight and come back strong tomorrow, and that's a great way to deal with a day like that. Here's hoping for a less frowny tomorrow!

I think feeling off is totally understandable - being a good friend and a highly empathetic person can definitely result in seemingly unwarranted emotions but in reality you're processing your emotions in helping a friend through something hard. Almost all of my good friends have lost their fathers so I completely understand how hard it can be even if you don't know the person who passed very well. It's emotionally draining seeing someone you care about so deeply going through such a hard time. Hope you feel better after you rest up! And FWIW, you are totally rocking this challenge :D

Thanks guys.   It did feel like a pretty successful week I guess.   Just, not TOTES SUCCESSFUL.  Which is silly.

Anyway, I have a question for the lifters and trainery people out there.    And I have no way to go about asking about this new little creak, without talking in some very blunt language.   So spoiler!

About 4 weeks ago while doing some goblet squats, I felt a minor pull in the bum area.    Now, when I say bum area, I mean ... (and here we go).  Find your tailbone.  Now drop about 1.5" further down from there and go deep deep between the cheeks.  Right. There.   It wasn't an OMG OUCH moment, it was just like a 'ok, need to adjust the stance or something because that doesn't feel great'.    I figured it would go away if I were careful.    It hasn't.   Some bending hurts it.   I can drop into a frog squat no pain, but bending over the tub to pull up the bath mat hurts.  Or... bending over to towel dry my hair hurts... and if I tuck my chin to my chest while bent over forward, that really yanks on the sore spot.       Any idea what this is?  What caused it?  And how to get it to stop being cranky?

I've continued my workouts, but I feel like I am not pushing hard on weight with the squats or bends kind of things.   And it's bothering me today when all I did was jog yesterday.    Any suggestions would be great!

I've never experienced a pull there, I am not even sure what muscle that would be that you have strained? I would say... ice it? And gently stretch it out (maybe with the forward folds you were talking about) after warming up well and stopping if any discomfort happens.  Sometimes my lower back hurts stretches out when I stretch my neck so it may be connected to that same line of muscles down your back around your spine.  Maybe even try to get some foam rolling/lax ball action there if you can? Does it hurt when you poke it? I've used that method on other strained muscles with great success but seeing as I am completely unsure as to what you may have actually injured I can't necessarily highly recommend my process. Hopefully someone else around here has some better answers!

This sounds like you pulled one of your pelvic floor muscles. I had something similar happen and unfortunately while going to PT, the only thing that really worked was internal massage. And yes, that is what you think it is.

If you don't mind a male trainery person chiming in, yeah, that sounds like you pulled something in your pelvic floor. I don't really know how you fix that, having never pulled a muscle there before, but I can tell you that a good way to prevent that is to 'brace your everything.'

When people tell you to brace your core, most of what I've seen just tells you to exhale hard and to brace your rectis abdominis like you're taking a punch. This is true, but the reality is that your core is really everything from the top of your diaphragm all the way down to your perineum, which for purposes of discussion is basically the bottom of the pelvic floor. Any time you lift, be it with a barbell, a dumbbell, a kettlebell, whatever, you brace hard and breathe shallow.

Which is good for future stuff, but not so good for healing you from here. I have no idea how you'd even go about that, although some cursory reasearch seems to indicate kegels and stretches as good therapy. Lot of coordination exercise type things.

And, uh, yeah. Good luck with that. That's not a good place to hurt. If I find anything in my research travels, I'll let you know.

I will take all the potential suggestions, advice and help!   And luckily, it's not a TERRIBLE pull.  It's just there enough to be noticeable when you're doing certain things, and it makes you go ... hmmm ...  I swear.   All these little hiccups, injuries, hurdles and what not are to keep me human and humble.  If I didn't have shit to deal with all. the. time, I would be so unstoppable the world would quake with fear.

Ok, I may be watching/reading/ingesting too much awesome sci-fi, fantasy, anime, Star Wars themed adventure.

For today, I made sure to do a lot of lower body stretching and foam rolling.  My inner beasts, when met with the foam roller, cursed at me in four languages, one of which I think was Klingon.   My glute stretch was must tighter than I remember it being months ago.    And when I tried to sit on my butt and V out my legs, my left IT band/Hip went CHARLIE!!!!!!! CHARLIE!

1ae781ac1baa850aff41885b6e08b489.jpg

So.  More mobility work is on tap.   Get everything else down low loosened up and taken care of, and do what I can on the spot that is actually aggravated.  >.>
