All these little hiccups, injuries, hurdles and what not are to keep me human and humble.  If I didn't have shit to deal with all. the. time, I would be so unstoppable the world would quake with fear.

 

Sci-fi or not, I think that's probably actually true. You are pretty awesome, after all...

 

I hope your inner-butt injury heals up fast (I guarantee that is the first time in my entire life I've ever typed that sentence). Sounds like an awkward spot to have a tweak. It looks like it's not holding you back too much, though, and you're doing the right things to help it heal.

I find myself cursing in multiple languages depending on how injured I got or how much pain I feel during a workout.  I think it's common.  The first words most people learn in a new language are in fact the naughty ones :P.

 

Definitely good you're keeping your friend company, especially in their time of need :).  That's awesome and art maybe a good distraction too!

Day 10

 

Food Stuffs

Total Points:  18/20

 

-1 point for the extra burrito in the morning.   I need more calories on hockey days, but I really could have just made myself 3 eggs, instead of TWO burritos.   -1 point for Cadbury egg.   No regrets!

 

Snackage:

  • Cadbury caramel egg after lunch!  Mmmm.
  • Pineapple and raspberries at 3:30pm
  • Yogurt at 8pm
  • WW brownie and 1/2c milk after hockey. 

Move and Stuff 

20 minute walk at lunch - outside, in the 0% chance of precipitation heavy soaking MIST.  *grumble*

80 minutes hockey at 10:20pm

 

 

Art Stuffs

I knew I wanted to play online when I got home, so I tried drawing at work, out of sight of the door.   Not so much focus.   I got one doodle done and a start of a second one.  Will post later.     I am really trying to learn how to create multiple pictures of the same 'original' character, and man, it's kinda tricky!    I need a tough girl pose for my Star Wars character, Jaiks.    Some day, I will post her background story.  Because HOLY CRAP I have so much creative energy for her still!

For tough girl poses, I always end up looking for fight poses, fist poses, gun poses and even MMA poses (Rhonda Rousey has been quite helpful with that).  Making multiple poses is tricky but good practice, especially via using references :)

I must say, I'm really impressed with your ability to incorporate 'unclean' foods into your diet - your ability to eat them and then not let them get in your way as far as what you eat afterward. I know, if it were me, I would really struggle with that, so kudos!

Day 11

 

Food Stuffs

Total Points:  17/20

 

Breakfast -1 for Iced Froofy Coffee.  Lunch 5/5.   Dinner will be out because I have a dentist appt right after work, then straight over to D&D.   This will be was a challenge.  Taco dinner.   Okay-ish.    -2 because I had more servings of popcorn at D&D than I should have.   But did not cave in and eat any of the fudge that was brought over.   Also a few of these delicious triscuits.

 

Snackages:

  • Almonds and pomegranate arils at 3:30pm
  • Tea and pop-crisps (handful) at 5pm
  • 2 servings of popcorn at D&D
  • Triscuits

 

Strength Workout 

3 slow passes of active stretch movements on the agility ladder (high knees, kicks, lunges, etc.)

  • Shoulder Rehab - 3x10 all [Chest Pull: Gray Band] [Lateral Fly: 2#] [External Rotation: Blue Band] [internal Rotation: Blue Band]
  • Goblet Squats - 20# - 3x15
  • Inverted Rows - 3x13 (lowered rings about 2" - felt VERY good with the pinching shoulder blades together)
  • Push Ups - Incline - 3x15 (RC level)
  • Dead Bugs- 3x10 (middle set included 12# kettlebell hold in stationary arm)
  • Agility Ladder - 3x10

Foam rolling and lax ball after workout, also lots of stretching of arms and chest.  

 

So, going into the workout I was exhausted from hockey, tired physically, and suffering from bad allergies.   I was close to talking myself out of it when I looked at my streak on Fitbit of days with 2000+ calories burnt.   I decided I did not feel bad enough to warrant blowing the streak.   Everything felt HARD, even though in some cases I lowered the weight.    But I felt better after finishing it.    In other news, certain things I have realized, HAVE shown progress.   At the end of December, while I was still with my PT, I could not do wall pushups without arm/shoulder pain.   I have gone from wall, to rings, to the barbell at the benchpress height, to the back of the roman chair now.   Still no pain!     The lateral raises, I can do with a 2# weight up to and beyond 90 degrees.  Last PT session I could not get past 45 degrees (weightless) without pain.    Inverted rows and pull ups (assisted) are also no pain.

 

Is that to say my shoulder is better?  Hah!  No.   There are plenty of moments throughout the day that remind me things are not 100%.  But, if I look carefully, and more importantly, if I look at it without seeing '100% pain free perfection' as the only sign of progress.... well then, actually, I've had several woohoo's along this journey already.

 

Also?   I sat on a lax ball after my workout.   And rolled it around like I was getting good and dirty at my desk.   I'm sure it looked awful - but I just bent over to tie my shoe, and that pulled spot is definitely a little better than it was this morning.  (This may or may not be video footage of me at my desk with the lax ball.)

Tomorrow is a run day then the weekend hits.   I need to get one more strength day in on the weekend to get my 3, and I need another art day.  But, I am super anxious to not have any pre-committed plans already on my calendar!

Day 13

 

Food Stuffs

Weekend Activity

I'm thinking there will be none today.   It's 3pm and I haven't even cracked 3k steps.   I slept in.  Then worked on a few things, went to lunch, came back and spent time working with the tablet.    I am sad my 2000 calories / day streak will end, but also --- a rest day, a true and proper rest day is probably warranted.   

 

Which leads me into next segment.    I think I need to track calories.   Something is NOT right.   And I am freaking frustrated.    Here is my chart for the last 28 days.

When this challenge started, I was at 155.something - AND smack dab in the middle of shark week.     First week weight loss is almost always awesome because you've cut the crap out of your diet.   Add that in to ok, no longer shark week.    And that alone should have warranted a drop in the scale.     I lost a measly 1.3 pounds last week (week 1) and this week?  I'm UP!!!!   WTF!!! I mean seriously.    If I am gonna bust ass for nothing, then why bother. >.<    So. Flapping. Frustrated.      I have worked out in some fashion, either strength training, or running, or hockey, or at least a nice active rest walk ... for three weeks!   And nothing.    I really don't know what to do.  

 

Art Stuff

Put some time in on the tablet/drawing.   Took the oddly sketched drawing of Jaiks with her fists up, and tried to adjust/clean up in Manga Studio.   Copied over the original with a new sketch for layer 1, then took to layer 2 to start semi-inking, cleaning, adjusting.   I think I fixed a few things from the sketchbook version.   Legs seem more in scale, and the hair isn't so big.     And yeah, I quit before I hit the hands because they are terrifying me!

All in all, not a great day.   Gonna finish it off with a total FRAK IT day and then tomorrow, start measuring things out.   I'll not CHANGE what I was eating, but rather, take a week of tracking calories to see what I was doing without realizing it.

Sorry your day is rough. The picture looks great. The left hand (left for the subject, on the right hand side of the page) looks just fine, I wouldn't be worried about that one if I were you. On the other hand I think you need to either angle the back of the hand a little or straighten out the fingers and it will fix it.

do you think that you are eating enough to gain lots of awesome muscle? I'm moderately evaluating extra calories and am SUPER surprised at how much muscle I appear to have gained over the last few weeks. I haven't changed my fitness routine at all, just added in 100-200 calories per day.

Day 14

30m on the elliptical because I was chatting my friend and really in the groove.  Also, steps!

I tracked calories today and did well with it.  No rage at all.   Thus far.    We had our corned beef and cabbage, and god bless food that you can have two CUPS full of for 50 calories.  (Pats tummy, "I am sorry I put all that cabbage into you, it was just so yummy.")

 

Starting today and through this week I'll be maintaining my 'points' plan but also tracking calories to see what might have been up the last two weeks.    Don't think it was muscle KJ. :(   I feel very puffy and like my skin (and clothes) are all too tight.

 

In other news.   For those who remember the drama that happened at the start of the hockey season, where we had new people come in that were as good as our highest level talent?   TL;DR it meant that some people from last year's highest team were asked if they'd play down.   I was one of them.   I agreed because I would still be with my bestest of hockey friends (they also agreed to play down) and because with the bum shoulder, I thought less competition might be a good plan.    Today was playoffs.   The two other divisions for my team (one lower, and then the higher I should have been on) both made it to playoffs.   They also both won.   I am feeling a rather large of hit of being left out and left behind, and I realize this is stupid, and petty and borders on a case of envy worthy of the title of a deadly sin, but I can't shake it yet.    

 

That's all I got for now.   I'll post my summary tomorrow and check in on all of you guys.

Keep Arting!

I arted 3 days last week.  I did it on different days than usual.   Mon, Wed, Sat.  Not feeling very satisfied or accomplished on the art this week.    I suppose this is to be expected.   Some projects will be like 'whoa! nice!' and others will be like 'well, I saw it through to the end'.

SUCCESS!  3 days of arting - but let's really try to get 4 in next week!!

 

Overall feelings?  Meh.   I feel meh.    I had a funk all last week and it's not looking better this week yet.    The numbers show that I did what I set out today but I still feel like I didn't do anything right.    This could be because I feel very puffy and yucky, and despite all that good eating and exercise, the scale went up!   (And clothes feel so tight.)    It's really discouraging.   Tracking calories this week.   Gonna measure everything I do and see if what I've been doing has been off in some way.

You could definitely be gaining muscle, and also possibly track sodium intake too? You may be holding onto water weight if you're overdoing it there, even if you're eating the right amount of calories and such. This could make you feel that puffy feeling too. Have you measured yourself? The amount you're working out I can't imagine most of that weight gain can't be muscle, in which case you might be gaining weight but you could be shrinking too - in which case the scale doesn't matter, right?

What Raxie said. The numbers show you had an awesome week, even if feels indicate otherwise. You rock.

Ugh.   Hard to feel awesome with no results.  I just wish I had an absolute formula for what needs to be done.   I hate guessing all the time.

 

You did great last week!  I understand feeling meh even with good results, but you already have a plan on adjustments and I think you're doing great on this challenge! 

Yup, adjustments.  Or at least finding adjustments.   So hard.

 

Well, feelings aren't facts... but then again, feelings are a fact. If you don't mind me asking, do you think that maybe the goals you're pursuing are out of synch with what you want?

I want to look like I did summer of 2013 or mid summer last year.    I'm not going for skinny.  I just want to feel comfortable in my skin and I don't know.    When I busted up the shoulder in September, everything came to a screeching halt because I was trying so hard to let it HEAL.   No workouts, even running was halted due to the jarring motion, nothing.   I lost all the progress I made, and soon after, started eating not as well.   But as of January I HAVE been like WAY WAY healthier all around, and nothing is changing.    I still can't do all the workouts I want to.. the shoulder isn't 100%.   Hell, it's maybe 70%, but that's better than the 50% it was in Nov.   So I don't know why the wheels are spinning.    I should at the very least be losing weight, and I'm not.   And I wish I could say it was muscle, but if anything my pants feel TIGHTER on me than they were a month ago.   I just don't know what's going on.

Day 15

 

Food Stuffs

Total Points:  20/20  Calories In/Out:  1263 (ugh so sad) - 1703 (estimated finish)

Yeah, when I don't run or workout, I burn that few of calories... it sucks.

 

Snackages:

  • Noosa yogurt.
  • Cookie and milk.

Woke up with a god awful stomach ache again.   Totally undeserved.   Had a small appetite, but immediately felt full whenever I'd eat.    Too mucked up to run or workout, so I took it easy today.   Hopefully that means a better tummy tomorrow.

 

 

Art Stuff

Last night in Star Wars, my character experienced a very strong pull from the dark side.    Brief background info; Jaiks was born the daughter of a smuggler/bounty hunter and a prostitute and raised on Nar Shadaa.   Always underfoot, people would ask 'Who's the kid?'  And they'd answer by saying, "She's Jaik's".  Jaik being her father.    That's how she got the name.   She had a knack for toughness and a bold spirit, so she made a name for herself among the riff raff.   People were intimidated by this girl that could knock the tusks off a Gamorrean.    Recently in our game, she came across another force user who had in his possession a red kyber crystal that was a great burden to him.   When she picked it up, it resonated familiar feelings for her so she felt capable of handling it for him.    Last night though, it urged her and tempted her to use a strength beyond her own.    She gave in to this call and unleashed a blast of force power that blasted the canyon wall they were fighting in (she had missed her target) and a moment later she was blasted off of the landspeeder she was fighting from.    It knocked her senseless from the fall, and as she's coming around, all she can think of is how she was just made to look weak.    ... and Jaiks hates to look weak.    (Her emotional strength/weakness pairing is Pride/Arrogance.)    The first wave of Swoop Gangers is dealt with, but another group is coming.     That crystal calls to her again, urging her to let her anger fuel her.    And that... was the inspiration for today's drawing.

Well, as little comfort as it is, this may end up being one of those challenges that's about data-collection rather than direct progress. I mean, in theory, weight loss is a matter of calories in calories out... but at the same time it's not, too, you know? The body is an emergent system of a bunch of different factors that may or may not affect you in very specific ways.

 

I mean. I don't know how self-aware you are, with regard to how much sleep you get, how much water you drink, etc. I'm sure you know all of that really well, and I'm sure it's really dialled in. All the same, if it's not, it might not be bad to refocus on those things, especially as they'd feed back into your healing process as well.

 

Another possibility may be to begin considering alternative eating schedules if you haven't yet - intermittent fasting protocols and the like.

Is it okay if, in a bit of unrelated encouragement, I say that you and BT inspired me to start looking up how to draw again? I don't know if it's going to go anywhere, but I'd like to learn to have fun with it, and I don't think I would have at my age if I didn't see you doing it.

 

So, um. Wanted to say thanks for that. You're really cool, and I hope you don't forget that.
