Day 16 (Tues)

Food Stuffs

Total Points:  20/20  Calories In/Out: 1647 //  2317

My run burned a good amount and I guess I just walked more at work because I managed to hit 12k steps.     I had to actually scrounge for more food in the evening to get up to a not too extreme calorie deficit.

Snackages:

  • Granola Bar at 4pm
  • Fiber One bar after dinner.  (Dinner was light)
  • Protein bar at 9pm
  • Fiber One Cookie and almond milk at 10pm

Run Stuff

Outdoor run at lunch time.    Was pleased that I made it 2.5 miles before first walking break.   Outside even, where it's more harder for me.    Felt pretty decent.  Walked the last mile to give the legs a cool down.

Art Stuff

Did initial inking on Pissed Jaiks.   Hope to continue that tonight and get some shading in.    Learn more shading, Puck.   Moar shading!   Moar shading.  Ok, stop shading.

Will get a pic up tonight on the art front.

Today's plan.   Work, strength at lunch, home, eat, art, ... ESO?

In other news I finished/gave up on Akame ga Kill.   It was pretty- the art was so my style.   But F dat noise.  Seriously.    I'll just put it this way.   I'm not a death prude (characters are allowed to die in shows/anime/movies) but it has to be for a reason.   It has to accomplish something more than "look how brutal we are, killing people off".    I prefer happy endings.    I'm a sucker that way.    I can tolerate a not happy ending if the story teaches ya something.   Or there was some awesome awesome moment at the end.  (Last Samurai was pretty bad ass, for example.)   But this anime?   I felt like it didn't know what the hell it wanted to be.  Cute? Fun romp?  Super dark and horrific?   Brutal death scenes?   Romance?    The only feels moments came from when someone died, usually in a way that they tried to make it sting more by revealing something 'aww' right before it happened.   Not my gig.    Now I need something new to watch.

Art Stuff

Finished coloring JaiksPissed and started work on shading.   I had a shading reference sheet with several styles on there and wanted one that made her look more ominous.   Sadly, I couldn't replicate any of them correctly, so I went with my own brain style.   I also realize, with some sadness, that the colors I picked for her shirt/scarf combo, are Rock Lee / Might Guy.   That was unintentional.   I wanted more vibrant colors than a Jedi might approve of, but not so bright and bold as to look fancy or high quality... so I went with green and orange.   Now I need new ideas for outfits, because she is not Rock Lee.    And all I can think of now is ... Rock Lee.  :P

j7MsEmum.jpg

Watched some more Claymore last night as we are still working through my friends "pick".  (We take turn watching anime of the others choosing.)    I am not getting hooked into this one by any means... part of it is the art style.  Just not the kind I fancy.     The story is slow, and a little dark?   I mean not terribly dark, just, it's a "heavy" feeling with this show.   Perhaps I am still fuming over the last anime, but I think I want something lighthearted, or at least heroic, or upbeat.

Tonight is RPG night, and we'll be working on D&D stuff.     I need to write out that BG and pick a personality for my assassin.   (Will be Rogue/Ranger combo for ultimate in hunting, stalking killing, rarr.)

Also, I really need to get a website for all my character backgrounds and logs and stories and what not.   Someplace I can organize them easily --- but isn't too code savvy because I know nothing!  Any suggestions?

Lunch Run

Indoor track at lunch today.   Walked 2 laps to warm up, then ran 3 miles straight!   Wooot!   Felt good to get back to that non-stop distance.   Kept the pace slow.  "Kept" hahaha.  That is just how I run.    But I burned a nice amount of calories doing it.  Thus all the extra snacks after dinner.

Had our D&D game.     I seriously suck at rolling dice.   You can claim the odds are random and should average out over time... they really don't for me.   Of the 4 attack dice I rolled last night?

THREE 1's.   THREEEEEEE!!!

Was still fun.  I played my character with a different personality, more naive and friendly and maybe a little bit of a goofball.  (She's an assassin, so it was a nice contradiction to her very methodical and brutal work ethic.)   I will probably keep THAT as the personality she has when we start the game officially.  (These are all test runs on how we've built our characters and to give our new GM a bit of practice with 5e.)

Question though.    When we start the real campaign, we are not going to know each other.   And as often starts in the beginning, the other party members will say, "So what are you good at?"    I'm trying to think of an idea where she can give some real insight to her skill set (getting into places perhaps?) that doesn't make her sound like a thief.

Looks like things are going pretty well, even if you're not seeing the progress you'd like. I have no suggestions on that front, I'm perpetually losing and gaining the same ~10lbs without even trying to go one way or another, and have yet to figure out what the related factors are (well, vegetable intake in one of them, but I'm sure there are others too). Other than to just keep on keepin' on and hope that something clicks sooner rather than later.

Ugh.  Starpuck's do not like change.    This change has made it so my method of following people is gone... and I feel overwhelmed and lost.      So, for those of you following along here, if I was previously following you ... well, it's gonna be a while and a thing if I can figure out how to find/follow you again.

BLAH.

I have tips! The easiest I have found so far is to click the 'Follow' button on any thread you want to track, then select if/how often you want to be notified (sadly, it makes you pick for every thread you follow and doesn't remember your previous choice, but it is what it is). I literally went to each forum (in my case, most topics were in the Ranger forum, one in the Assassin forum, and a couple in the Battle Log forum) and scrolled through 'til I found the ones I wanted, then clicked on them, then followed them. It was a bit of a pain, but I don't follow too many threads, so it didn't take me too long. Then, if you want to quickly see which of those threads have new posts, click on the little down arrow under your avatar/name in the top right-hand corner of the screen and select 'Manage Followed Content'. It should, in theory, show a list of 'Topics I Follow', which is as close the the old 'My Content' list that I managed to create. It seems that any threads you'd specifically clicked 'Follow' for BTC (Before The Change) show up there too, but not the ones you'd only posted in. The topics with new posts will be bolded, the ones without new posts will be, uh, not bolded (is there a single word to indicate the opposite of bold?) The only thing I don't like is that it doesn't show the most recently posted-to at the top of the list, it shows them in the order of 'most recently followed' regardless of when the last post on the topic was. That may be changeable, but I don't know if it is or how to do it yet.

There was also a setting checklist I found somewhere that allowed me to select 'automatically follow any topic I post in', but I can't for the life of me get back to that checklist, which in theory will work like it did with the old 'My Content' list, where any thread you posted in showed up there and became bolded if there were new posts, but I have yet to test that. If I figure out what I did to get there I will let you know. EDIT: I found it! When you click the 'Follow' button on a thread, under the first 'when to notify' option, there's a red link that says 'Change how the notification is sent'. If you click on that, it takes you to 'Notification Settings', and the 2 check boxes in the second section of the list are to automatically follow contents you post, and to automatically follow content you reply to (ie. threads you start and threads you post to, I assume). You can do this from topics you've already followed by just clicking on the down arrow on the 'Follow' button, the same little window thingy comes up regardless of whether you have or have not yet followed a topic, I'm assuming this is a general setting which will apply to all topics/posts from there on out.

This may be a woefully inefficient use of the new system, but that's what seems to be working for me so far. Granted, I've only been back from my little hiatus for this afternoon, but so far so good? Also, this assumes that our methods of following threads was similar, my tips may be of no use to you if you had some fantastically complicated system involving the dark web, in which case, I can't help....

Thanks Obax.  When I get over my grump I'll check that out.

My system was simple:

Look for my thread buddies, say hi in their thread, then go to 'my content' and any thread I had posted in that had new content, would be bold in color.   Read content, normal.   Simple to keep up with new info for all the peeps I hung with.

so @obax and @starpuck I just discovered the "activity" tab? which allows you to see a feed stream of activity sorted by different things - content you follow, members you follow, etc.... it's going to take some time getting used to this for sure, but this morning I was like: OH NO I CAN'T GET TO THE MOST RECENT POST FROM THE "CONTENT I FOLLOW" list and I was super nervous I couldn't figure out the best way to do this. I'm guessing activity tab will be my new best friend.

one of the options on activity thread is also "content I posted in," so possibly that will work for your prior system.

Hey ladies, yeah I saw that activity feed button last night, but every time I pressed it, it crashed out and went to 404.  Urg.   Hate change! :D

I need to do a wrap up of my week (sucked) and I can't navigate as easily so I am so close to just not even doing it heh.

Double post.

WEEK 3 WRAP UP - SUPER BRIEF STYLE

1) Lift things --- I did only 1 strength work out.   I was not feeling great on Monday, then forgot we had a luncheon for work on Friday.   So I only lifted on Wed.

2) Runs --- I did get 2 runs in.

3) Food.  --- Was great from Monday-Thursday.   SHITTASTIC Friday-Sunday.

4) Art --- I did put 3 days of art stuff together, but I don't feel like I did much with it.  >.>

In other news.   I'm so completely frustrated by my lack of progress with anything (yes I know that failing every weekend is not helping the formula) that I signed up for the Eat to Perform website.   I want to see what they say and give it a go.

I also began Nia Shanks 12 week dumbbell/bodyweight workout program, because I was tired of having to think up what was what.   I'll give it a go.  If nothing else, it provide 12 weeks of 3 workouts per week where I do NOT have to think ahead of time about what I am doing.  The program is all laid out for me.    I may have to avoid some things due to my shoulder, but I've been doing that anyway.

Today was the first workout.

Reverse Lunges 5 x 6

1 x 6 x 0#

3 x 6 x 16#

1 x 6 x 10#

Push Ups 5 x 6

1 x 6 at bench bar height

2 x 6 at box jump height

1 x 6 at bench height

1 x 6 at box jump height    (no pain!  This is a long way from the wall push ups I couldn't do without pain in Dec.)

Inverted Rows 5 x 6

2 x 6

3 x 6 at lower height

Glute Bridge 5 x 6

1 x 6 x 0#

1 x 6 x 5#

2 x 6 x 8#

1 x 6 x 12#

Reverse Crunches AMRAP x 3

16 - 15 - 17

DB Laterial Raise 3 x 10-15

1 x 12 x 5#  (lots of crackling in shoulders! :( )

1 x 15 x 2# (still crackling)

1 x 15 x 2.5# (sigh, crackle)

Stretching 5 minutes

Nia Shanks is good. I've used her stuff to train clients before with good results. She's great in general, but her insights on training women specifically are very much in keeping with the observations that various Nerds have made here.

And hey, sometimes you need to shake things up. Letting someone else sit in the driver's seat can be fun for a change and take your mind off of things for a while.

Also, feel you on the troubles with the site. I cleaned up some double and triple-posts I found here, because I got you.

Day Whatever It Is

  • Food is looking to be on track.    No stupid snacks or over eating.
  • I did my strength workout.
  • I arted even though I wasn't feeling it.

Funny thing on the art is that I think I made progress on the fisty-hands.    I also put some time into doing boots n pants.

No, not that kind.    I've not been trying feet because.... agggh feet!  But I put some attempts in on it tonight.

Now I am wondering if her head is too small.  Hmmm.   (I am learning the lasso, expand, shrink, move, rotate trick a lot now, I loooove that tool.)

I agree, those feet look AMAZING! I think you got the proportions/perspective just right, too. girl, you are AMAZING! your drawing is REALLY improving, and I thought it was pretty darn good to begin with.

Thanks guys!  You are soo good at making me want to keep up with this.   I tend to look at a pic and see everything that isn't perfect, and you guys are like, 'hey puck, that's some fun art!'   So keep it up please. :)

So, I got my TDEE numbers from the ETP people and I am freaking out.    The amount of carbs and protein they want me to eat is really stumping me.  I can't figure out how to get THOSE numbers without being ridiculous over on calories.   Example:   They want me to eat 50g carbs/25g protein 60-90 minutes before working out.    I thought, hmm, how about an english muffin with peanut butter?    That only gets me 30 carbs and 9 protein, but blows 235 calories!     I gotta find foods that get me what I need without being insanely misproportioned with the rest of the nutrients.    Which, of course, I want to hit the ground running now that I have this info, and I can't because I don't have the knowledge to how to make it happen.

Also?   I eat my breakfast at 9am at work.  I work out at noon.   So, um, there's like, about zero percent chance I will be hungry enough to eat something at 11am.    This is really really straining my brain right now.    You people that do all that macro-tracking, if you can throw some tips my way I'd really appreciate it.

This is the info they gave me for week one.

  Training Days Recovery Days
Calories: 1795 1755
Protein: 150 150
Carbs: 130 120
Fat: 75 75

Fruit is going to be your friend if you need to get lots of carbs without overloading on calories. Tropical fruits will provide the most CHO without being heavy on calories. Apples are good too, like, 22 grams CHO at only 80 calories.

Chicken breast is probably going to be your go-to for protein. It's really super-lean meat, and the average breast is worth two servings, so that'll be like 50 grams of protein in general.

So, like, for your pre-workout, you could do half a breast and a couple apples. Or maybe half a breast and an apple and a muffin? Or maybe a thing of rice for pure energy. Or, come to think of it, a sweet potato. That's super-easy to cook up, like, five minutes in a microwave and you're good.

Of course, another option would be supplements. Most whey and pre-workout stuff is tailor-made for this kind of thing, but then you get into the problem of quality, and also, that shit's expensive, so I dunno if you think that's worth it or not. I've personally decided not, but that's because I'm poor, and if I do any supplementation it's for nutritional insurance.

As far as timing goes, would you be amenable to shifting your breakfast back to 11 AM?

Seems like a good change of pace, with the new workout plan. I'd like to try a plan like that some day, but I have yet to expend the energy to figure out how to integrate something like that into the very specific goals I have re: police tests etc. I'm sure I could, I've just never bothered to try. I hope you like it! (Also, I feel ya on the shoulder crackling thing. It's always a little disturbing, but my physio assures me that it's not too big a deal unless it hurts, and I take him at his word).

Also, I can see your pics! *frown* It seems others can, so it's probably just my mac not playing nice, or something. I'll have to see if there are things that can be tweaked so I can see all the awesome art.

Dare mighty things

Week 4 Day 2 (Hah!)

  • First day eating more - it was tough!    I hit my numbers perfectly, except for being 50g short on protein.
  • Ran 2.8 miles in 30:52 so around my 11 min/mile mark.  Indoor track.
  • I was tired again, but arted.   Tweaked some things (made head bigger and rotated it a bit) and learned a hard lesson.

I had figured out a new trick, to just fix parts of the pic, by making a new layer, then merging to below once I had it right.   But, the thing you never want to do is ... FORGET TO RAISE YOUR OPACITY ON THE LOWER LAYER BEFORE MERGING!

The only way I could figure out to fix the inking, was to reink the whole damn thing.   So I put in like an hour of art, but only managed a second inked version.  So now her right arm looks a bit too small lol!   Tweak this, and it messes up that, tweak that, and messes up that other that. :P

Then I got to hang out with some friends and do awesome geeky gamer things.    Now, a bit of Assassins Creed before a much needed bed!
