I'm back!

Here's to the third challenge of the year! *cheers!*

This challenge I want to work on something I did not do so well last challenge, with slight modifications.

Goal 1

Make vegetables my friend

5703429335_69fa5281aa.jpg

For this challenge, I would like to focus on eating vegetables three times per day, five three times per week. I will track this with MFP. I plan on having enough vegetables available for me to eat three times per day.

Grades

A: 18-20 times

B: 14-17 times

C: 10-13 times

D: Less than 9 times

Goal 2

Eat more of the good stuff

The good stuff I am referring to is protein. This challenge I would like to focus on eating 35% of my calories from 90 grams of protein at least 5 three days per week. I will track this with MFP. That equals to 630 calories per day from protein. (I would like some tips on how to get this much protein in, so please, advice me :)

Grades

A: 18-20 times

B: 14-17 times

C: 10-13 times

D: Less than 9 times

Goal 3

Step up my step up game

I'm taking a huge leap this challenge and getting started on c25k. I have read some information on it and downloaded the app on my phone. I plan on doing the runs while at work.

Grades

A: 10-12 runs

B: 6-9 runs

C: 2-5 runs

D: 1 run or less

Life Goal:

This challenge I would like to have some physical activity with my daughter. I think going on one walk per week with her at the park would be great. We rarely do things like that because on the weekend I just go to the gym. I would like to include her in being able to get exercise as well, especially since she walks and would enjoy walking around outside.

How old is she? and do you by chance have a game system at home? I highly recommend Just Dance :D they have Disney versions (I think) if she's still little enough to be obsessed with that and it doesn't score you on being exact, so she can be silly if she wants to or try and do the moves the dancer does. It's soooooo much fun!

It also has a karaoke function ^_~

and if she's still too little for that kind of focus, then the park is always an awesome classic thing to do :D

Hi LogicLeigh :) She's almost 15 months old. She actually does like to "dance" and lately has taken up doing her own version of singing, which is super fun and hilarious. I will probably take her to the park and see what type of things she gets into. The last time we were there she wasn't walking much but was very, very interested in the bark mulch. :) :)

Is that your daughter in your profile picture? Love it!

I second Just Dance! She's obviously not going to be using it soon, but it's great. You could even get it for you and let her dance around in the background.

Protein has been a struggle for me over challenges too! I've experimented with adding protein powder to my Greek Yogurt in the morning or mixing the protein powder in with overnight oats (which actually works a little better as it's easier to add extra liquid). I have had more luck with baby steps - I now consistently hit 125g protein daily - I'm trying to get more still too.

Good luck with C25K! Hope you enjoy it!

Oh man! You can stick protein powder in anything if you try! Muffins, oatmeal, apple sauce, mix a bit into some peanut bitter and have an apple with it, works as coffee/tea whitener as well, throw it in hot chocolate, pancakes, yogurt etc

Oddly enough the only way I really don't like it is in shakes :P

Hi Sylvaa- that is my little one, indeed. She is pretty cute :) She does love dancing, which is pretty adorable. Maybe I should give it a shot.

Do you have a particular protein powder that you use? I'm still nursing her, so I don't know if I can have most protein powders or not. I do think that is a great idea.

Oooh! Putting protein powder in muffins sounds pretty rad. And as a creamer! You guys are geniuses!

Ohmygoodness I absolutely love all of the unicorn pictures. Also a big fan of your goals!

Thank you, Jess :) The unicorns are pretty darn awesome.

For ladies, I'm totally a rainbow fan.

Idk if protein powder is a no-no for you, but par to what Sylvaa said - progurt. If you get greek yogurt and add protein powder to it, you can make all sorts of combos and the powder cuts the tartness (which is why I personally don't like greek).

I think I should research what type of protein powders are good for nursing moms. I like all the ideas you guys have given me. :)

Ugh! Things like that make sleeping so hard!

Also, behold the power of the internet! Here is an article in regards to protein and breastfeeding!

I saw in a forum that someone recommended Optimum Nutrition, which is what I use! I love the vanilla ice cream flavor. The link has all the ingredients if you wanted to do some due diligence on all the ingredients.

This is super helpful, thank you Sylvaa :) :) :)

Week 1 Check-In

I made some changes to my goals. Instead of doing things 5 times per week, my goal is to do it 3 times per week. That applies to Goal 1 and 2.

Even with the changes, last week was not the most successful.

Goal 1:

1/7 days.

Goal 2:

0/7 days (Range was 13-19%)

Goal 3:

I was able to do 2 days of c25k.

Life Goal:

This weekend I found it a little difficult to do much outside with my daughter. We did walk around while doing errands, but for the most part we relaxed and stayed indoors due to the crazy rainy weather happening.

I am hoping next weekend we are able to get out more.

Bah- I should definitely be interacting here more. I think it would be good for my soul.

Woohoo! I feel exactly the same, which is why I'm randomly picking threads to put replies on :redface-new: . It's really cool that you've signed up for a marathon. That's one of my long-term goals too.

Thank you, fiddle-on! Great job for taking initiative and spreading the love. The marathon is a relay that my brother and I will be working on as a team. I don't think I will ever be able to do a marathon solo. I've done a half and that seemed long enough! Do you have a date for your goal?

Week 2 Check-in:

Goal 1:

3/3- I consumed vegetables 3 times per day on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Goal 2: MODIFIED GOAL

4/3- I modified this goal to consuming 90 grams of protein at least 3 times per week.

Goal 3:

2/3- I was able to run twice last week. I didn't on Friday and on the weekend I was pretty much a sloth.

Life goal:
This weekend I spent a lot of time just connecting with my daughter. We went shopping, we ate good food and snuggled. I think it was great.

I think modifying my second goal is for the better. Achieving a 35% protein intake while also trying to stay under a certain amount of calories and not being fully prepared is a huge feat. I think that with better preparation, I could do it, but at this point in time I am juggling way too many things for it to become an achievable goal.

Maybe soon!

In other news, I have signed up for a 5k for April 30th. (http://www.lungcancerfoundation.org/events/) I figured continuing to work on c25k would help me stay focused on having a great run then. I might also sign up for a 10k in July. I am going to check around and see if there are any events going on that I could sign up for.

Rebel on!
