Originalpiratematerial - back on The Streets again!

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am back for my fourth challenge, and third as a Ranger.  How time flies!

The main part of the challenge really chooses itself as I am still focusing on half-marathon in May.  So...

Goal 1 - complete weeks 5 - 8/9 (I am thinking I may repeat a week at some point) of the HM run/walk programme I am following - this will be four run/walks per week;

Goal 2 - two strength workouts per week, my trainer has me doing what he calls "leg endurance" for one of them, the other I will do core and upper body stuff.

Goal 3 - domestic rangering.  I really didn't do well on these aspects last time around.  The thing is, with a job, three kids (one with severe autism), and a three-storey house, just doing the "ordinary" domestic rangering takes up quite a lot of time (and that's even with my husband doing all the laundry and lots of other cleaning).  So I have to be realistic about what is achievable.  So I'm going to keep it very simple and aim to spend an hour a week (more if I can manage it) on one of the following:

 - youngest son's wardrobe - sort out stuff that doesn't fit any more and divide into piles for eBay/charity shop/give to friends.

- middle son's wardrobe - same

- my own paperwork (including all the domestic stuff like insurance renewals, school correspondence etc (all three sons are still at school).

Edited to add: I'm also going to aim not to spend money on myself apart from necessities.  This really should be achievable as I have enough work clothes and shoes, and enough running and workout gear, to be going on with, and have stocked up on toiletries, cosmetics etc.  So what I'm going to do is log my daily spend on here, and hopefully knowing that this is accountable will shame me into frugality!  (I won't include all the big payments that disappear noiselessly from my bank account, such as the mortgage, the insurance, the utility bill payments etc.)

I think that'll do!

4 mile walk/run in under 44 mins this morning.  Was pleased to note, when I looked at the intervals on Runkeeper, that I did five out of the seven running intervals at a pace of under 10 mins per mile.

Outstanding! Great head-start to your challenge! :encouragement:

"There are some good things to be said about walking. Not many, but some. Walking takes longer, for example, than any other known form of locomotion except crawling. Thus it stretches time and prolongs life. Life is already too short to waste on speed." Edward Abbey

How's it going with your HM (heart rate monitor, right)? I had one of the things once. I think I started to geek out on it a little too much, and it just got distracting. When it died prematurely, I was kinda happy.

But I've come a long way since then, and I can see how they could be really useful. I'm wondering if I should give it another shot. I'd be interested to hear more about your experiences, and the plan you follow, if you don't mind. Apologies if I overlooked this last month.

Wrap up warm if you opt for an outdoor workout today, it looks nice out but that wind is freezing! It caught me off guard this morning.
