This challenge is about making the most of opportunities as they come up. I have a lovely foundation behind me so far this year, and some ends to wrap up, or items to put in place this round. I would like to make the most of my energy and my choices so that I am flexible and available to make use of opportunities that come my way.

I'll be continuing with the near-daily gym visits. More than ever I have seen how beneficial they are to my emotional well being and balance. I have a good rhythm with my partner on this front, and it grounds me. We do T'ai Chi once or twice a week as well, and really like it. Vivian, now 5, has become a bit of a gym rat too, and days when she doesn't get in the pool are a bit gloomy for her.

The thesis and conference paper final edits need to be completed and submitted and done and dusted by mid March. I'm looking forward to it, and wondering where the universe will lead me once it's all wrapped up.

The onerous task weekly list will always be a part of my life, as will the gratitude and affirmations journal.

I'm going to need to add in a regular schedule for writing time. The only way to write is if I'm available for the opportunity to do so.

My thesis draft has been deemed excellent by my advisor - I'm so centered and strong for hearing so. There's a bit of organizing that needs to be done, but that's simple, relatively speaking.

I have had to skip the gym yesterday and today due to tendonitis in my dominant hand - T'ai Chi tomorrow though, for certain. My partner and I discovered a four mile walk in our neighborhood.

The elementary school in our district was flat scary when we visited today. Homeschooling is looking like a real possibility.

We voted in the Virginia primary today, my first ever national primary.

I turned in my graduation from, got measured for cap and gown and ring, ordered announcements and talked about graduate programs. I am feeling very calm and happy.

Still feeling a bit tender, so staying home and nesting, making use of the Surprising Spring weather and the clean-and-neaten energy it brought. Responding to the present is what this challenge is all about.

Opportunities abound, if we are available and present to see them.

The new office is painted and drying. The graduation regalia is purchased. I splurged on college logo pajamas, since my old flannel pants are loose enough to cause mobility issues, in that it's difficult to walk when your pants are sliding down your bum.

Vivian went with me on errands and was a delight. She is settling in to the routine nicely, better even than I could have hoped, and I'm more glad than ever that I allowed myself the permission to reschedule my world to accommodate being present with her.

We made buttermilk biscuits and bacon for breakfast, then repurposed them with some grapes for lunch.

And now a bit of rest time.

Homeschooling also sounds like an amazing option if it's something you're in a position to do.  I'm sure children learn far more, that way!

I had to try Tai Chi recently. It is a wonderful excercises, but a lot to learn until I could flow and enjoy it.

 

Do you really get university pyjamas? I know about tshirts and towels, but pyjamas???

Yes, pajamas!

I had to pay for them, of course. They were expensive of course.

I love them.

New,taller loft bed for Vivian today.

Wrote a fair amount of the conference paper after a breakfast of biscuits and a hand of cards.

On the subject of 'pajamas'.  I recently got a set of traditional silk robes for when I go out to play push hands rather than showing up in my normal hoodie and oversized sweatpants, looking like I'm a thug there ready to hold the place up.

Oversized silk PJ's are the most amazing thing.  I put them on and just shift my weight back and forth while making sounds like I'm making sweet love to myself.  My wife is like "You okay in there."  "It's okay baby, just doing qigong....ohhhh, ahhhhh, ohhhhhhhh."

Made it to the gym this morning, and it was hard to break the haven't-been-lately inertia. Once there, the rhythm of elliptical, walk, row, walk embraced me. We did weights after, and I stuck to simple stuff, with very little hand and wrist: glute curl, glute extension, inclined twist sit ups, five pull ups to keep it real, a minute plank.

Lunch and House of Cards and a nap.

The office is coming together nicely. I put some shelves and books and pictures in today and set up my computer.

Switched out side tables in the dining room, to the benefit of the dining room and my partner's office.

Vivian seems to be getting with the program.

Yesterday was a total resting day.

I got the thesis draft with notes back from my advisor. The word "outstanding" was used. I'm tickled.

His notes and edits mostly go to ditching a lot of my conversation of theory, which was always the weakest part, as I saw it. I am happy to take it out more or less altogether, since I'm an action kind of philosopher.

This morning I looked at teaching positions available at the local community college. They have a ton, and I plan on applying for at least two of them. I know, I know: "You have a master's in philosophy; what are you going to do with that: Teach?"

Best conversation along those lines was when someone asked:

Them: "Philosophy. You make any money with that?"

Me: "I designed my own currency system once; does that count?"

Yesterday seemed to be a day of grounding. I ended up neatening up around the house, and Vivian settled into her rountine and expectations a bit more. I'm really proud of her, and she is showing me that this is the right path. I don't think she needs a school so much as she needs companionship at this point. I talked with my partner about possibly getting a dog for her once graduation is over. He is fine with it; I'm the one dragging my heels because I know how I am about training epectations and how much time it will take. Nonetheless, it's the right thing to do for Vivian. I'm thinking a black lab.

Today the living room gets painted and crown molding begins. I have visions of it in every room of the house, but one room at a time is all I can afford. And, you know, it's the living room, so I can't think of a better place to start.

That's pretty witty right there.  "Does that count?"....spent some time thinking about how this flowed with counting your own currency system.  heh, the puns are stacked so tight I can't figure out if they're intentional or not.

 

"No, that's not philosophy, that's counterfeiting, which is frowned upon in most places."

Managed to catch my foot on a step and fall down the stairs while moving stuff to paint the living room. My ankle and foot are pretty banged up, but no lasting damage, I think.

Not my most graceful moment, by a long shot.

I went through a phase of fixing up the house, but then I overstepped my bounds with what was allowed by the landlord (I guess I heard what I wanted to, hehhehehe), so I let that go.  But the changes were amazing anyway.

 

Then my mother visited and made everything better, lol.

Thanks so much for dropping by and for the encouragement.

I am enjoying fixing up the house one room at a time -- somehow it feels more organic, in that by not having to have a Grand Master Plan For Everything All At Once, I am open to seeing what inspiration and opportunity comes from a small change, and build on it accordingly. I really enjoy improving the space, and it feels more mine than ever.

I know all about that oops moment with a landlord -- glad your mom was helpful.
