SkateTroe
So, this is kind of rushed at the moment for me, so I'll flesh this all out tomorrow or Wednesday. I just want to take this moment to commit and start really getting things together again.Overarching Goal: ?? ("Be more fit" is not exactly SMART) Become an Assassin (I'll worry about details later) This goal involves the need to get stronger, lose weight, and improve flexibility and coordination. My interests in joining the Assassins lie in a number of their specialties, including dancing, parkour, climbing, and circus arts. I am already a fairly well-coordinated person, and now I must bring my other stats up to par.Diet Goal: Make at least 1 salad for lunch a week, at least a day in advance.1st Fitness Goal: Start the Stronglifts Start Bodyweight workout Do workouts of some sort (At least once a week for the sake of small challenges, but I'll shoot for thrice as a stretch goal)2nd Fitness Goal: Yoga (Pieo?) at least once a week (Shooting for twice)Life goal: Plan out each week during my morning break on Monday. Failing that, plan two days at a time (Monday morning for Monday and Tuesday, Wednesday morning for Wednesday and Thursday, Friday morning for Friday and the weekend)------------I'll post more in the next couple days about myself, where I am, what I want, and all that jazz. It's good to be back! 2 Quote Level 0 HumanSTR: 0 DEX: 0 CON: 0 STA: 0 WIS: 0 CHA: 0(Impressive, huh?) Respawn in 3...2...1... Link to comment
SkateTroe
Okay, turns out I've got more time than I expected to today, so let's talk a bit. I've tried and failed twice to do a challenge here, but this time will be different largely because I have a wonderful girlfriend who is going to kick my butt if I don't succeed this time around. My overarching goal, I realize now, is to become an Assassin. That means a number of things that need to get done, first: I need to lose weight, build strength, and get flexible. To those ends, my current quests for this week are to eat healthier (More salad), Workout (Start Bodyweight routine), and stretch (Yoga). Mornings, I have a nice two hour block before my first class on MWF, so I'm hoping to update those days. As for starting on the right foot, I'm actually meeting with my girlfriend to go to the gym shortly here. So that's a good thing. Any assassins or assassin wannabes like me, I'd welcome any and all advice on how to become worthy to join their number. See you around! SkateTroe
Be careful, KittenDancer, I may well take you up on that one. But first, quick update: I didn't get to plan things out this morning because of life. Specifically the exam Imma rush over to as soon as I'm done with this post. Wish me luck! Last night I made a few salads for the rest of the week (Spring Cobb Salad with Raspberry Vinegarette: http://fitfoodiefinds.com/2015/04/spring-cobb-salad-with-raspberry-vinaigrette/). I'm really looking forward to trying one and seeing just how it turned out! Unfortunately, it took a bit longer than intended, and I didn't get the yoga-ing in... Monday, I tried out the Start Bodyweight workout. Honestly, I wasn't too big of a fan. I think it just felt weird going to a gym and doing solely bodyweight workouts. I've got another workout today at 4, and I'm trying to decide just what I'll do. I'll probably default to Stronglifts unless somebody (i.e. Dancezwithkittehz) has a better suggestion. Also, my girlfriend has this thing called Pieo or something like that--part yoga, part pilates. Apparently I'll be trying that on my yoga days. Any ideas on what that workout is like? Gotta go ace a test I'm in no way prepared for! See you next time! Quote Level 0 HumanSTR: 0 DEX: 0 CON: 0 STA: 0 WIS: 0 CHA: 0(Impressive, huh?) Respawn in 3...2...1... Link to comment
dancezwithkittehz
I can see how doing bodyweight work at a gym might feel weird! I tend to do bodyweight stuff at home (and also occasionally at work. Yay for random push ups at my desk!) I am also just starting on stronglifts and I think it is pretty awesome. Even though my focus is assassiny things, the muscles built through lifting heavy are AWESOME and will help you in other stuff too! Basically go for it if it interests you!! bambooroo
I want to be an assasin too! I'm new to all of this but if you want someone to check in with on the forums, that'd be great! I'll be following to keep up with your mission. (Assasins have missions right?) 1 Quote 1st Challenge â—‹â—‹ Iceland Trip Link to comment
SkateTroe
So, Imma go with comments at the beginning, update at the end. So, I think part of the awkward at the gym was the self-consciousness, because today's workout I just followed my girlfriend's workout with her and it was largely bodyweight but went a lot better. I edited the top part--I'm definitely gonna need time to explore some different stuff before deciding what I want to stick with. I definitely want to do bodyweight at least once a week, though, because assassins. Do you know of any good bodyweight workouts that are less repetitive (pushups/pullups/etc), and more movement based, if that makes any sense? Bambooroo! We can be trainees together! Do you have a mission I could follow, as well?I'd call it a mission. Granted, it's kind of like one of those tutorial/basics missions, but yeah! It'll be a while before I upgrade to killing people parkour and such. _____________________ Updates: Dat salad, bro. Dat salad. It was absolutely delicious and pretty legit-looking. I'm moving toward paleo right now, but I have no intention of pretending to straight up cold-turkey it. But I made salad! And Imma definitely make more. Also, had a pretty great core workout today! So that's great. Kind of writing distracted right now (if you can't tell), so I'll just end it here. [insert awesome-sounding send-off here.] Quote Level 0 HumanSTR: 0 DEX: 0 CON: 0 STA: 0 WIS: 0 CHA: 0(Impressive, huh?) Respawn in 3...2...1... Link to comment
bambooroo
I do have a challenge mission! However embedding videos/links/gifs/pictures never seems to work as intended but if you go to my profile, it's there! I think body weight workouts are fairly repetitive but you can do really impressive things if you stick with it. I think finding an activity you love is immensely beneficial. Over the next year I'd like to put on 10 lbs of muscle, so I've started weight training again to supplement rock climbing. Hope you have a great weekend! SkateTroe
Alright, week one down, and I hit all my fitness goals! (We'll just not look at that Life Goal thingy there... >.>) Friday I actually went out and did a bodyweight workout with a couple friends at a nearby playground--much more fun, and a solid workout! I knew I liked bodyweight stuff, I think the gym self-consciousness just kind of got to me is all. Also, there's a loading dock right by the playground with a rail on top (I'll post a picture if I think to take one), which will be perfect to do some ledge workouts once I build enough base strength. That makes for a nice little goal. Anyway, week 2 is apparently also my boss battle. I'm a theatre kid, and this week is what is affectionately known as "Hell week," or the week leading up to opening night. Long, late rehearsals on top of classes and homework make it significantly more difficult to fit in workouts and eat right. I'll really have to work to keep things up this week...wish me luck! dancezwithkittehz
Aha! You are a performer too? I am a dancer and aerialist, so I feel you. UGH TECH WEEK (or hell week as you call it. Or tech hell as I sometimes call it.) I think not finding time for that life goal is totally acceptable...finding time to PLAN things during tech week...or anything new and extra at all is just NOPE for me generally. (I usually give myself temporary goals on a show opening week where my goals are just focusing on the show and remembering to feed myself!) Break a leg!!! What show are you doing?
