Last year I decided I was going to pick up and move north to live next door to two of my favorite nerds, which meant picking up my life and moving to Madison.  I moved at the very end of last year, and then 3 weeks later went on vacation to Australia and New Zealand, just getting back a few weeks ago.  Thus, I have been pretty absent on the forum and challenges, and since I have #warriorgoals and #scoutgoals, here I am!

 

I have a tendency of petering out after week two, so this challenge is going to be super simple.

 

Epic Goal #1: Run the Hot Chocolate 15k in October with @Haikoo

If there's one example of my going MAD, it's this.  I'm really a warrior; I hate cardio.  But, I somehow managed to sign up for this quest because the medal is SO COOL.  But first, I need to be able to run a 5k.

 

Challenge goal #1: Do couch to 5k program 2 days a week.  (Ideally this would be 3, but life happens, so I'm going to make this achievable.)

 

Epic Goal #2: Snatch 30kg and/or Clean & Jerk 40 kg

I have found the most amazing gym in Crossfit MADtown.  They have a 3 class a week Oly program, and despite being a Crossfit gym, ALL the plates are in kg.  Their site even says they are a weightlifting gym with a crossfit problem. YAY.

 

Challenge goal #2: Go to Oly class 2 hours a week.  (Ideally this would be 4, but life happens, so I'm going to make this achievable as well)

 

Food Goal: Get the adult to run the show, and not the inner 9 year old child

Let's be honest.  Running a 15K (or even wogging it) will be so much easier if I drop the fluff.  Hitting a BW clean & jerk will also be easier if I have less fluff.  However, my inner child doesn't think that far ahead; she thinks OMG GIRL SCOUT COOKIES MUST EAT ALL OF THEM.

 

Challenge goal #3a: Eat Primal for 14 meals out of the week (again, let's keep it simple)

Challenge goal #3b: Whenever I have a craving, ask myself: "If one of the nerdlets asked for this, what would I say?" and then DO THAT THING.  Or, "Is this really going to be me to my goals?  Do we want to end up like mom? What do you REALLY want?"  And then do those things.

 

Life Goal: Adulting. 

There's a lot of other things I need to do, so I'm just going to make a short list:

  • Excavate my basement so I can have the girls over for my birthday
  • Get WI license and license plate
  • Resume bullet journaling
  • more to come...

And thus my CRAZY MAD WHAT THIS MIGHT BE ACHIEVABLE challenge has begun.

Hello all my nerdy friends!

 

This week has been rough, and I have not done well with my goals at all. I take responsibility, but navigating shark week + bipolar weather (seriously, 50F to 7F in 30 hours?) was a bigger boss than I could defeat.

 

C25k: 0/2 - but will be running this afternoon

Oly: 0/2 - Monday I had tweaked my back, and Wednesday I had a migraine and the migraine hangover meant I was not in great shape.  SO FRUSTRATING.

Primal: 3/21 - Breakfasts are on track, everything else is not.  I did go weekly grocery shopping but I haven't done a weekly cookup so my inner kid won and comfort food prevailed

Parenting: I have been asking myself more questions, and it has changed my behavior about 50% of the time.

 

I have learned that I really need an evening routine.  If I don't sit down and plan my day out, or at least the first things I need to do that day, things get away from me.  Also, if I log into chat / facebook / forums first thing in the morning, my day ALSO gets away from me.  So, minimizing my online time in the AM and right after work definitely helps my productivity.

Okay, so this week was definitely a warm up week.

This bipolar weather has pretty much done my sinuses in and leave me with a couple migraines over the week. I mean, seriously, what in the world is with 50 degree temperatures then going to 7 degrees 36 hours later. Oh, and it's about 50 degrees right now.

I only managed one couch to 5k session. I was totally out of it Tuesday, and then time just got away from me on Sunday. I definitely going out and meeting people by attending a trivia meet up, which was pretty fun and definitely worth it.

My Weightlifting goal was also demolished by said crazy weather / migraine symptoms. In addition Monday I tweaked some weird muscle between my scapula, and that made the prudent decision not to go to evening class and possibly injure it further. I was actually pretty upset about that, as I really wanted to get started with weight lifting. Then, migraine happened on Wednesday, so again I was unable to lift and pretty pissed about this fact.

I did make it on Saturday for two hours, so I have at least made that goal!

My food goal was pretty laughable. For the most part my breakfasts were primal, but that's about it. I definitely crashed and burned on this one. I'm going to revisit this goal and for next week focus on eating mindfully instead of exactly what I am eating. Eating without distractions is pretty hard, yo.

The good news is I have eaten breakfast mindfully, my after run snack mindfully, and planning on eating my lunch mindfully as well. And, yes, that means I did do my couch to 5k run today. Then, it's off to the gym later tonight for some weightlifting!

Warm ups are important in every activity related thing, so I say they are okay for challenges in general too.    It is super hard to deal with the weather, I hear ya!  I ran outside today ... in a t-shirt.   When the weather tips back toward winter-ish?  I am SO going to have a giant bowl of angry mac and cheese.

 

But you're here, you're checking in, you're keeping on with the keeping on.  So yay!

i know! weather was nuts here too.

 

re: food - changing my breakfast up (from ~5 bowls of cereal, to a paleo dish) was a game-changer for me and helped me get some snowball effect in other meals. if you can keep up that one meal to your goals - you're succeeding!
