Now that I've completed the life upheaval part of the year, I'm setting my goals for the year now. Keeping it simple for this challenge, but I'm excited to be back on the forum and can't wait to do some minis too. Goal 1: Follow a training plan (for once)I've committed to doing a marathon relay in May, and a canoe-run-bike triathlon in June. The triathlon organizers published a training plan that doesn't look too hardcore, so I'm going to follow it. I've sort of half-attempted over the last month, but I have to be consistent to avoid injury. First March workout completed today! Goal 2: Eat those plantsThree veggies a day. Simple as that. (I've been eating like...0 to 1) Goal 3: Use free time wiselyThings I want/need to do this month:Try at least 4 new classes at the gym (every class is free the first time)Do my taxesMake significant progress (at least half) on a baby blanket for Project LinusComplete design and buy yarn for afghan--for wedding giftCook at least 5 new (Paleoish/Primal) dishesOne great thing about the move is being back in my own kitchen. I've been cooking/baking up a storm. Most of the baking is goodies for coworkers (because if I bring them food they will like me right?). In the past week or so I've made breakfast sausage, grain-free biscuits, turnip rice cakes...PB snack bars for the bf, chicken noodle soup (since I caught a nasty cold and proceeded to share it), chicken curry...nom. Was sooooo close to skipping the workout (first since getting sick last week) but then convinced myself to turn left towards the gym instead of continuing straight towards home. Goal 2 - Green stuffCheck. Asparagus, salad, and turnip cakes. All in the evening. Also cut cukes so I'll have them at work tomorrow. Breakfast: grain free biscuit-sausage with a little cheddar, coffee with coconut milkLunch: chicken noodle soupSnacks: bite of focaccia (made by a coworker), maple truffleDinner: chicken curry with rice, roasted asparagus, salad w/feta and white balsamic, fried turnip cakes. Ate too much for dinner, but at least refrained from wine. Been drinking a bit too much. Goal 3 - AdultingEh. Planned to run, ending with weights at the gym. Actually ran, but towards the end was hacking my lungs out (lingering cough + cold weather = ick ick ick) so just walked home instead of gym. Goal 2 - Green stuffCheck. Much easier to achieve if I actually have green stuff with lunch, duh. The stir fried green beans (w/ghee, rice wine, tamari, garlic powder, salt) were a revelation...one billion times better than steamed in the microwave. Dinner was high fat but clean, and my stomach was happy after so all good.Breakfast: sausage, turnip cakes, coffee with coconut milkSnack: cucumbers (this gave me major bloating and burps )Lunch: pork belly, rice, asparagusSnacks: maple truffle, carrot cake Hershey's kissDinner: pork belly, green beans, fried turnip cakes. After: 1 glass wine Goal 3 - AdultingSo I sat down with a glass of wine and attempted to do my taxes with Turbotax. I got the more expensive property owner version, but ended up giving up (after about 2 hours). Complications include renting out the house for most of the year, moving money from a trad IRA to a Roth IRA after realizing I made too much to deduct a trad IRA, and having the house in a different state from where I was living/earning. It was a valiant effort, but i'm going to take my dad's recommendation and have his tax guy do mine as well, because the way I input the info could make a difference between owing hundreds or being owed hundreds. (aka the difference could cover the tax guy fee) Sometimes being adult means knowing when you need an expert, right? Since I like having 5 adulting tasks, I'll replace 'do my taxes' with 'send care packages to sisters' (one in RI, one in CA). I spontaneously bought sheets of stickers at the store yesterday, so I'll probably add...chocolate easter eggs or bunnies, spiced nuts, and a few other things. Read a couple articles about seat position first, paid attention, my knees don't hurt the day after the ride! (During/after my Tuesday bike my knees were twinging quite painfully). Saturday right after work I started prepping to host dinner and game night. That went past midnight. Very tired now, and my lingering cough is still pretty serious -- gives me that gag feeling. The cough is still lingering, so I went with work-->cook-->eat-->sleep. I WILL go to bed earlier tonight. Goal 2 - Eat Green StuffCheck. Carrots and green beans with lunch, and broccoli with dinner. I find that writing my post before I eat dinner ensures I eat veggies instead of just carbs and cheese. But tonight I'm actually making a proper meal: meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and roasted broccoli. Goal 3 - AdultingMeatloaf is a new recipe (from Joy the Baker). There's a bit of milk and bread in it, but I'd call it Paleoish. Need to work on actually reading other people's threads instead of just being lazy and updating my own. And the weather has been surprisingly balmy for the most part. Gah I just found out that there's going to be free BBQ from my favorite local place at work tomorrow. Four days into my W30. Perhaps that will be one of my first post-W30 indulgences, picking up a pound of pulled pork -- pretty clean actually, except for the sugar. Or I'll just make Kalua pork when my bacon arrives later this week! I had super weird dream last night...I owned a dog and a horse (um, no) and hadn't been taking care of them (because dream-me is a terrible person), I brought them to this animal hotel / kennel type place which also had a spa for people...and went to eat at the cafe but there was nothing W30 compliant so I stood there in front of the food choices, paralyzed. Today is Day 3, and I feel like the second time around my timeline is different. Day 1 I was HUNGRY and tired, Days 2 and 3 are just sort of...meh. I'm really enjoying the sausage patties, even twice a day. Next week I'll probably make more, with different ground meat for variety. I really miss being able to take cough drops during the day, and melatonin chews at night. Otherwise not really having cravings, just sort of sadness about missing out. Passed up the free pizza at work, sat and ate my from-home lunch while everyone else ate the pizza. Cooked up a storm last night: BBQ drumsticks and roasted broccoli for bf, chicken-carrot curry for later in the week, cut veg for snacks, and my taco salad. Then washed alll the dishes. Respect from Rurik is no small thing. 3/18, 19, 20 Goal 1 - Train Skipped Friday, brick Saturday, strength Sunday. 2/3. Goal 2 - Eat Green Stuff Fell down on this one despite the W30. I think...1/3. Goal 3 - Adulting Er. My rec center membership is suspended until I make sure my forms with the tax office are sorted, so I can't do the classes thing. Whole 30 is chugging along. Getting more consistent with training (4/5 last week). The cough is finally fading. I baked layered brownies (choc chip cookie, oreo, brownie) for coworkers and it wasn't even a big deal not tasting any. Though I do feel a bit guilty for feeding them unhealthy food while I eat extra-healthy, it is part of my ongoing campaign to make my new coworkers like me. Also, my jeans are loose! Very loose in the mornings, tighter as I bloat during the day (whyyy is this still happening). Yesterday I skipped breakfast (not hungry), and during afternoon grocery shopping became ravenous. Grabbed a small pack of prosciutto, great compliant snack though not something I'd regularly buy (kinda pricey for volume). Over the weekend I overate the pork rinds that arrived Friday *sigh* so probably should avoid buying them again, at least in quantity. Friday I went to 'happy hour' with a friend, and just drank iced tea.
