Also! I have a big WOOT to report.

For the first time in my life, I'm pretty sure, I lost 2 kg in 2 weeks. Ahhh. I'm so proud of myself.

I'm going to keep trying to not pay attention to the scale, just use it as a measurement, stay neutral, but when such results are being reported, I couldn't help but feel giddy about it.

And hey, if that gives me a little pat on the back and helps me stay on track, that's okay.

(Though the chocolate seems to be calling for me today... I'll have a couple more pieces and then stop. Also, Tomorrow I'll hopefully have had enough sleep again, and in any case going to stay away from it. Home-made creme caramels are fair game, but maximum 2 little glass cups per day.)

From my challenge thread, for future reference:

So I wanted to share this zumba video, because most of the ones I found on Youtube during my initial search only had that super cheesy "GO HARD OR GO HOME" music.

Moreover, the lead dancer is smiling throughout the WHOLE VIDEO and doing quirky moves in between and that really kept me going. :D

I'm just going to avoid the news today, at least until noon. Really gets old hearing EVERYTHING being related to the epidemic, though I guess for most people it probably feels odd to carry on as business as usual for even just a little bit. But for me it's mostly emotional talk that gets me restless. 99% is not talking about facts or practical, but just talking about "oh how is everybody FEELING" without giving concrete advice on how to deal with those feelings... Or "Oh what do these specialists think" as if they can look into a glass ball and predict the future like the weathermen.

I feel like information is GIVEN to people, and all the factors needed to make an educated guess about what is likely to happen & what is unlikely to happen. But... Most people haven't had any type of statistics nor have read any information about how (mass) psychology works, so they can't make sense of the given information.

Not that I'm saying I'm world's smartest person, but I do feel like I am being informed sufficiently to make the decisions I have to make with regards to daily life and my future/summer plans.

I KNOW how people react when they get a "definite answer/prediction". They stop thinking and hammer on what they've been told at X moment of time, not taking in account the fact that that definite statement was made under reservation, and ONLY because the person who was asking DEMANDED a definite wording. And then later on they complain as if they were lied to. While they WERE told that the statement was on loose screws and that hindsight bias is a real thing.

And while usually I do think people on TV make too vague statements, in those cases the statements aren't vague, they simply take in account the uncertain factors. But NAMING those factors and how much they "weigh" into the possible outcome is also important information.

Oh well.

I just thought, it's not only my interest in how statistics and the human psychd works, it's also having family members I can brainstorm with that HAVE BEEN through times of mass panic/seen it up close & have also thought about it a lot on a meta level.

Meh. It sucks to see people so afraid. It's not that I'm saying the fear is unfounded but.

It helps when you can verbalise what is up, why you are having a fear response, what you can expect at least on a theoretical level. And talk about it with people that are capable of calming you down because they Know you. My fam knows how to help me, and I know what works for them/what they need in tough times.

Anyway. That's my better-than-thou ramblings for the day I guess.

Even though I know I don't know nearly enough to be talking like this.

We will be okay. Even when we aren't. It's okay.

I hear you on that. I pretty much stopped watching the news for now and have been watching Harry Potter marathons instead.

With you here too. All we can do is try to connect and just let each other know that we're not alone and that we'll get through this.

Good call. I will definitely have an HP marathon of my own some day after my assignments. The shows Outlander & Star Trek: Discovery have been comforting as well. What better forms of escapism than story lines about magic, or split time lines. :D

Indeed!

On an unrelated note, I just saw you can change your NF display name once every 150 days. Thinking about changing it but unsure to what yet. I have some ideas just out of reach so I'm going to have to make a list. Used to really enjoy naming characters in games haha

I really love the 'That's metal!' reaction button.

Although I've never been a solely-anything-head, this is what that spirit/context of 'That's metal!' (on a deeper level)* means to me:

*As much as an emoji can have a deeper meaning, of course! 😛

Okay before I overload this post with videos, I think you got an idea about what this channel is about :D

So I really want to remember this:

A very good way I have discovered works for to make progress is:

  1. to make a longer term plan with concrete to-dos that are vague enough to be adjusted day by day
  2. Write them down in pencil
  3. Forget about next week, last week, yesterday, tomorrow. Conquer now, the next minute, the next hour, today.
  4. Check off in pen.
  5. Reflect, adjust, go to bed.
  6. Numbers are a tool. Do not make mistakes to keep your expectations about yourself low. Have no expectations.
  7. Do your best, learn from your mistakes. Do not waste time feeling bad about your mistakes, but if you get on that wave, don't feel bad you're "wasting time". Ride it out
  8. Keep your head high, your breath even and as deep as your body needs,
  9. Sleep well
  10. and damn it, it does not matter if you eat or snack more than usual but give your tummy time to process what you've put in it.

Ohh this looks like fun

Minus the standing part (so until step 6) for now? I was/am actually surprising myself with how far I have gotten and my curiosity and zest with what I am doing already

So the fact I am peaking beyond the current goals I have and feeling like I might be able to reach what I am seeing (one day) is mind-blowing. Carpe diem indeed.

All that american football talk haha, but it's still good because he is passionate about it. I can still appreciate the message. 😎

Okay so, I have kept my hair in a bob this year because I knew I wouldn't bother with working out and my travelling schedule if I also had to dry my hair for 20+ minutes

(it just... cannot really air dry. I discovered this is likely because my hair texture is porous. On the bright side: that means it takes product in well!

I learnt this om the Curly Girl Method reddit, love how curly hair looks and they post a lot of progress pictures. And I knew I'd learn a lot from the forum because the same people are usually members of the Hair Science reddit. Even though mine is pin straight. Okay, almost pin straight. It does a weird wave thing when it's long but I'm pretty sure I'm the only one that notices.

Really, knowing the right care methods for your skin and hair can severely reduce the time you spend on those things. Or you can realise you can take a bit better care of yourself for quite little time. And that leaves more time for your Quests for Awesome. Sooo though I'd share.)

Anyway, I've started growing my hair again so I can feel more like an assassin/ninja again with a high braided pony tail :D  At least I like to imagine that if I was in the ninja game, I'd learn how to use my hair in battle. Have hit people with it on accident (when turning too suddenly) before haha

This train of thought has been brought to you by me being in a metal mood again;

And also remembering the discussion on a thread where some recommended to grow long hair to have another balancing point when doing certain exercises haha

Okaaay okay now I'm going to focus again

I have this thing where I go a long time with one username and then need a change. I think a lot of people are like that. Sooo.

New username ideas:

*take a sailormoon quiz and go with that

*try a generator for something with the same letters as my current username

*Cortana? Or maybe there are other fun halo character names

*a character out of an fantasy mmorpg I used to play

*athena, bc I study law and she is the goddess off wisdom/ law and justice and all that jazz. Or another pagan goddess/muse/fae name

*From Dune, I like the name Chani but I would have to check her wikipage to see if there are some associations I wouldn't like

Hmmm. Ideas ideas

Ahhhh win! Just stepped on the scale and there's no exam week damage :D

Probably because I found ways to stay out of the pantry much more than I would usually!

And did not get tempted by my baby sis' snacking either. Yay. I am the master of my mind! Haha

Going to take my measurements now too.

Today's the day I see what I have to do for my thesis! Let's go.

(while I haven't done much research, that's a topic I'm still pretty interested in).

Hmm I am reviewing my past goals and such and came across this discussion :) I kind of still want to research this as well.

Although, it was just training and moving a lot more that helped me with my question about the zumba and dancing (still so pumped about it). Letting my body know I want efficient oxygen distribution and muscle reactions haha.

A little youtubing got me to this video, not super helpful

Starting around 1m30 sec, the message is:

It mainly increases the intensity of your workouts (how you use them)

But it can help you feel a difference.

I think it might be like with swimming, once your body gets used to more resistence you get an auto boost? (At least thats how I feel when I havent swum in a while...)

That's accurate for Mercury. I like it, and I agree, I think it suits you. :) Both Pluto and Mercury are cool names though so either one you decide to go with, you can't go wrong. :)
