Mini Challenge #2: Br0din presents the 40/40 challenge

Bro's and SwoleMaidens,

Our cardio workouts aren't done.  This time you won't be able to stand there and rest, so get your spotter.  We are benching and benching a lot.  Rules are continuous touch and go benches.  You can only rest in the up position and not rerack the bar.  Spotter help = end of your lift.  You have to the end of this current challenge period to complete this challenge.  

 

 

 

Easy/normal mode

The standard challenge will be 40 reps at 40% of your Body weight.  To make this easier, you can do 20 reps at 25% of your body weight.

 

Easy mode:  +.5 strength, +.5 constitution
Normal mode: +1 Strength, +1 constitution

 

 

Hard Mode

40 reps at 80% of your bodyweight.  +1.5 strength, +1.5 constituion

Nightmare mode

40 reps at 100% BW.  +2 strength, +2 constitution

 

or

 

you can play "Am I stronger than an NFL prospect?"

AMRAP 225lbs

 

0-5 reps = I hope your kicking game is good

Oh dear... To me, they all sound like different degrees of nightmare!!! Is there a time limit? Can you rack the bar, or does it have to be 40 in one go?

This is good feedback. The intent was 1 go, no rack, and rest is in the up position, But let me fix it. I want easy mode doable by all. So, tell me what is more reasonable and I'll work it in.

I may have been overly dramatic. Easy mode sounds fine, guessing it's supposed to be challenging (I am guessing this because you called it a "challenge"!). Will probably do normal mode and see how far I get.

Failure is not a bad thing, just shows you where you have to improve. But, this is a new challenge and it may have bugs to workout

These % of BW challenges are really pointing out the need for me to cut. I'll give it a go, but....it ain't all that much lighter than my work sets.

 

Motivation comes at you from all angles.

So, I think the tuning of the challenge is my best guess, but feed back would be appreciated to make it more better.

Intended to do this last night but the SO was in a hurry out. Next time.

 

I don't anticipate it being overly difficult? But we'll see. I don't think I've ever bench pressed more than 10 reps haha But I did incline close grip 55lb for 15 last week. So I think easy mode should be well within my reach.

Okay. In for 40/40, normal mode.

 

Next workout for sure. aka tomorrow or friday. My current main goal is benching more after all, and I don't have to walk around on my hands all day afterward.

 

That'll be 40 reps at 108 ~ 110 lbs. for me. That sounds challenging enough. I'll get 20 easy, but reps 30-40 are gonna suck.

I think easy will be all right, at least for me. I may give 40/40 a go at some point, but first I'll do easy lol

i was debating between easy or normal but i think i'll take a page from your book and do easy. THEN normal! put them together and it's like beast mode right?!

 

I don't have a bench at home, so I did OHP like Rookie.

 

40% of 75kg = 30kg

 

Best attempt was 38 reps. I was absolutely filthy that I only needed 2 more reps, but I was completely unable to lift the bar off my clavicle at that stage. It felt like my arms had been pinned down by a feather :(

 

Very disappointed :(

 

don't be! you did awesome! you'll get the 40 next time for sure.

Easy mode done after main sets, 25kgx25. Counting this as my weekly cardio!!!

 

Only approved cardio is of the horizontal in nature, but...

Does doggy style cardio count?

 

I did my challenge today on normal mode. 105# (I forgot the extra 2.5#ers). I only made it to 25 tho anyway.

 

Might try it again later.

What trickery is this? Do my eyes deceive me? I think I can actually do the easy mode.

 

I'll give it a go this week. 

 

Im pushing back to back workouts right now to catch up on my weekly goal, so this shall have to wait.

Just did normal mode horizontally, as intended. 

 

FitNotes Workout - Saturday 19th March 2016

** Bench Press **
- 75.0 lbs x 10 reps
- 125.0 lbs x 5 reps
- 75.0 lbs x 100 reps [PR] [3 minutes]

 

At around rep 70, the motion turned into a spoto press, too tight to touch chest. I wanted to quit at 92, but with 100 so close,  I took breathed singles. #100 went up asymmetrically, lol.

technically that’s 27.439% of my BW but I wasn’t going to use the smaller bars and not have a rack.

it was easy so i tried normal this morning...

could only eek out 15 reps. damn. continued on for two more sets though just for the heck of it
