Jord
I've screwed up some lift numbers recently. I really need to pay more attention! I'm now where near your level of poundage, so it shouldn't be that difficult. After I messed up and lifted extra deadlift weight, I've been more careful with counting & deadlifting. But then the next week I put too little on for bench, so now I'll be more careful with that! It's only basic addition. 1 Quote Jǫrð, Delvian Nomad - Level 12 { Battle Log } Link to comment

Very encouraging. Hahahaha, dude-bro! My very first time at the squat rack during that last challenge, the guy I asked for help was a total dude-bro. Like, a surfer dude-bro. Very sweet. (And cute, if I'm being honest ) 3 Quote ~Peace Be The Journey~ one - two - three - four - five - six - seven- eight - nine - ten - eleven - twelve - thirteen - fourteen - fifteen - sixteen - seventeen - eighteen - nineteen - twenty - twenty one - twenty two - twenty three - twenty four - twenty five - twenty six - twenty seven - twenty eight - twenty nine - thirty - thirty one - thirty two - thirty three - thirty four - thirty five - thirty six Link to comment
Jord
I had an opposite situation with dude-bros yesterday but both of your comments reminded me of it. There were three teenagers (seemingly) working in with each other on bench press, and they were "spotting" each other. And by spotting I mean actively pulling up on the bar during the last few reps of every set. I looked over at one point and I could see the spotter pulling up with two fingers on each hand and I ACTUALLY heard him say "You got this, it's all you bro" three times in a row, word for word. Then when I finished deadlifting I went over to the other bench press near them and they all up and left to go do something else. 3 Quote Jǫrð, Delvian Nomad - Level 12 { Battle Log } Link to comment
Broba Fett
Hopefully you never get a spotter that underestimates you and feels the need to do an upright row while you bench. Happened to me once and now I just leave the clips off the end so I can tilt and drop the weight in case of emergency. (Probably not a safe strategy at all and I don't recommend it. I just don't like people.) 4 Quote Spoiler Currently... Playing (Video Game): RDR2 DMing: Tyranny of Dragons. First session 11/29. Broba Fett tracks em down. Happened to me once and now I just leave the clips off the end so I can tilt and drop the weight in case of emergency. (Probably not a safe strategy at all and I don't recommend it. I'm starting to be at the gym long enough where the gym bros recognize me. Probably by the time I can bench a weight that would be hard to just set down on myself I could ask one of them for a bench. Getting to the smiles and nods point, which is something considering I always wear headphones. And a couple of guys have even asked me if I'm using a bar that clearly has more weight on it than I can lift. I suspect that this is the situation that Emerald Dragonfly is in, where she's been lifting around the guys long enough that she can ask for a spot and get a real spotter AND know who to ask. Like if I needed a spotter at my gym I can tell who would actually be a true spotter and not an upright rower, I hope anyway. 4 Quote Jǫrð, Delvian Nomad - Level 12 { Battle Log } Link to comment
Emerald_Dragonfly
@fitjulia, I have poor gym judgement. Lucked out this time... I plan to bench in the squat rack with safeties when my home gym is built (soon...soon!) - although I haven't quite figured out the specifics of the movement, I imagine that it will be something like @Broba Fett describes. The embarrassment/fear of bailing the bench at the gym seemed just slightly less than the embarrassment of asking for a spot. Barely. 2 Quote ~Emerald_Dragonfly Level 13 Warrior Link to comment

I dunno, I think it would be cool to be at a place to actually need a spot! I also secretly want to make gym bro friends but don't have a good reason to talk to anyone yet LOL. Sounds like it wasn't too bad an interaction...? 1 Quote ~Peace Be The Journey~ one - two - three - four - five - six - seven- eight - nine - ten - eleven - twelve - thirteen - fourteen - fifteen - sixteen - seventeen - eighteen - nineteen - twenty - twenty one - twenty two - twenty three - twenty four - twenty five - twenty six - twenty seven - twenty eight - twenty nine - thirty - thirty one - thirty two - thirty three - thirty four - thirty five - thirty six Link to comment

Fear of talking to people at the gym is silly, but real. Probably left over from being 90 lbs heavier. @fitjulia, similar thoughts? Different? 1 Quote ~Emerald_Dragonfly Level 13 Warrior Link to comment
