Polgara19
I've been doing lots of research on the Middle Ages, and have been thoroughly enjoying all the wonderful manuscript illuminations and marginalia. And so, I want to share them! I have three big goals for the next 5 weeks (starting now!), so with no further ado... Polgara Goes Medieval! Run Like You're Being Chased by Creepy Marginalia! One of my big yearly goals was the run the Zombies, Run Virtual Race 10k in the next 2 weeks. Actually, the goal was to train for the 10k. However, work and life has been really crazy, and I haven't been doing it. I will likely still run the 10k vr, but I will not be well prepared. To further complicate matters, I'm having some foot pain. My left foot, on the top has been very tender. I sort of suspect extensor tendonitis, except it doesn't hurt to raise my toes - it hurts to curl my foot down and around (very hard to explain). Anyways. I suspect one of my daily pairs of shoes, so will be avoiding them, and icing the foot. Hopefully it doesn't sideline me too much. So, the goal for the next 5 weeks is to complete 4 weeks of the 10K training plan, and 1 week of 10k race and recovery! (to be modified due to injury as required). Week 0 : 1, 2, 3 Week 1: Zombies, Run Virtual 10k !!! - recovery run? Week 2: 1, 2, 3 Week 3: 1, 2, 3 Week 4: 1, 2, 3 Shop So You Don't Have to Carry It On Your Back The other thing that has really suffered due to my crazy work schedule has been proper grocery shopping and meal planning. I know how to do this, but I'm not making it a priority. So. This is a priority. And to make it clear to myself, I am giving myself a sa-weet prize if I meal plan and shop all 5 weeks! If I meal plan and do one big shop, I get to buy myself either or This is happening! Don't Get Chased By The Honey Bear! Sweets are my downfall. I have had luck with a couple of different strategies in the past, but they haven't proved sustainable. For this challenge, every serving of sweets I eat need to be paid for with push ups. The first serving a day costs 10 push ups, the second costs 20, and it escalates from there! 1 Quote Level 6 Ranger Current Challenge - Scrubs! As for the foot, I think my old everyday hiking shoes might have caused it. They are the only shoes in which it hurts to walk. So I have been wearing my newer running shoes or going barefoot. Not sure it's getting better. It's been all of 2.5 days. Been hurting for a week or two I think. Of course, I had intended to run the Zombies, Run 10k this weekend. Week 0 Day 2 Run Like You're Being Chased By Creepy Marginalia Had a terrible afternoon with the sproglets, and HAD to get out of the house. Decided to go for a ... well let's call it a shuffle, with the understanding that I would stop if my foot started to hurt. It hurt after about 0.75km, and I turned around. After a total of 1.5 km, my heart and head felt much better, but my foot was sore. Can't really say I did my training plan, since I was supposed to run for 40 min, but I went. If anything, my foot seems to be getting worse. At the beginning, it only hurt if I bent my last 3 toes down, but now it's hurting more and more often. I think I'm really going to have to not run. Unfortunately, I work on my feet a lot, so will have to work on it. Week 0 : 1, 2, 3 Week 1: Zombies, Run Virtual 10k !!! - recovery run? Polgara19
Week 0 Day 3 Run Like You're Being Chased By Creepy Marginalia This guy. He's chasing me. Is it crazy to just run the 10K, and then rest my foot afterwards? I really want to do the Virtual Race during the period (now until April 11), but I don't think a week and a half is enough time not running to have it healed. I'm tempted to run it, suffer the damage, and heal after. Is that like stabbing myself in the head (foot)? Quote Level 6 Ranger Current Challenge - Scrubs! Week 0 Day 4 Run Like You're Being Chased By Creepy Marginalia Worked on my feet all day today, and despite walking almost twice as much as the day before, my foot feels much better. I ended up wearing open shoes, and i'm not in very much pain at all. I guess that points to extensor tendonitis. Hopefully I will be feeling all the way better soon! So, in order to stay off my foot and not run, I actually went for a swim today - first with the kiddos and then a couple of laps by myself. Got the heart rate up. Also good since my sister is grumbling about doing a triathlon this summer - so getting back into swimming would be good! @starpuck, I think the virtual race should be in a tab under the missions section. They say if you can't see them, to restart your device. Could you find the training missions? 1 Quote Level 6 Ranger Current Challenge - Scrubs! obax
Any comment I would have re: running the 10k anyway would be equally unhelpful (ie. if it was me, I'd probably try to tough it out). That said, I've recently learned the value of allowing yourself to make a full recovery, and it might be wiser in the long run to give your foot a break if that's what it needs. Which doesn't mean you can't give it a try. I don't fully understand the idea of a virtual race, but I'm figuring it's something that the participants all do independently but on the same day/time. If that's case, give your foot the rest it wants before the race, then try it on race day. Take it slow, listen to it, because 'it hurts' is not the same as 'it's injured', but if it gets to the point that it's feeling injured (or that it will be injured if you keep it up), then stop and be proud you gave it your best. If it only ever stays in the realm of 'it hurts', then go for the whole 10k. Anyway, that's my 2 cents, and probably sums up what I'd do in your situation (and what I have been doing with my shoulder). 3 Quote Dare mighty things Current Challenge Link to comment

Charlie_Quinn
That's good that your foot is improving and glad to hear you are giving it a few more days. If it's still not 100% better by then and you really really don't want to miss your virtual run, you could consider taping up your foot or wearing a support. I had peroneal tendonitis a while back and wearing a light support helped.
