Alexandrite - Adds another Rebel to the Ranks

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am a mother of two Littles and currently waiting for #3 to arrive! Kind of had a feeling it would get bumped to this challenge since I always go overdue in my pregnancies. Oh well, more fun times ahead!

I will come back to this tomorrow to add more on regarding preparation for birth, etc, but obviously my challenge will be shifting to postpartum recovery quests once I actually *have* this baby. Today was my official 40 week mark. My son thinks it won't happen until Saturday. I would be okay with anything this week at this point, even April 1st if it must be!

Let's rock challenge #11!

When my friend went overdue on her one kid I have to basically convince her that going on a trampoline was a terrible idea.... She was super ready to have the baby by that point!

Nothing to report today! =)

Feeling tired, but battled the usual Tuesday "clean all the things" habit I've been having the last few weeks by taking the kids to library hour and putting them down for nap early. I had a nice quiet lunch with my husband (he brought home food for me) and did finances and bills. I also spent way too much time zoning out at movies with the kids and playing some Harvest Moon/FFIX. I did manage to clean the kitchen right before Dr. Focker came home (my husband chose his own nickname!).

Our almost 5 year old has been testing me at obedience and discipline, and being overly pregnant means he knows he can get away with a lot. Dr. Focker gave me the 'night off' by letting me go upstairs and lay in the dark quiet watching Persuasion (Jane Austen). It was blissful vaguely hearing him have to deal with the two Littles and their antics while I relaxed. Off to bed!

Tomorrow is my last regular OB appt. If I see her again after it will be to deliver the baby or get induced next week...

Lalalalalala~

Spent all day since about 8am with contractions running 10 min apart. I am hoping they speed up soon. OB appt went well, she just told me to come back when things sped up!

I used to be a cross country runner when I was younger (middle and high school) so I have some idea what long distance effort means and what it takes... but I've never run a marathon and this is starting to turn into one. Woke up twice every hour until 2am, when the contractions finally changed back into braxton hicks and I could get a bit more sleep. They were still always 10 min apart until that point. My lower abs and pelvis are sore from it all (thank goodness for arnica gel).

Starting out today the same as yesterday, more early labor signs but no contractions yet. Have to get my mental head game on today if I really do have to "run" this marathon-style! My son's labor from start to finish was around 33 hours, so it's not like I *can't* do this. I would just like to get it really started! No one likes to run warm up laps forever.

Eegads that must be frustrating. Hopefully you get a chance to nap or something to help keep the energy up

Well, everything pretty much stalled today. Went to the store with the kids, baked cookies at home, putzed around the house, and started a set of baby booties to match the lamb hat I made. Went playing at the park with the fam (ran into my OB with her kids, lol), then went out to dinner. Of course it would be right as we sit down to dinner that I start to have the 10 min contractions again. And then they stop as soon as I leave the restaurant. This kid probably deserves to be born on April 1st at this point, lol.

Holding off on making any challenge quests right now until baby arrival!

Epic, brutal last three days is all I can say. Our baby boy, Freidrick Leon, was born yesterday afternoon!

I will just say that nothing went as planned (I ended up getting an epidural due to over exhaustion at that point), but I was able to avoid a c-section and he made it earthside healthy and safe despite having the cord wrapped around his neck twice. I am recovering well, but I will be a train wreck for a while.

Here's to postpartum recovery road! And I am pretty sure I am done with having kids...

Just updating real fast here - thank you everyone! We stayed the night in the hospital and almost had to stay another night but finally went home Sunday evening. Just completed our first full day home. Little "Frei-bird" (we named him Freidrick) is a pro at nursing, but still needs to work on latch. My body feels better by the hour. Dr. Focker stayed home, and will be doing so the rest of the week, to take care of the kids, cook, and clean while I rest.

I did get a second degree tear unfortunately, but since Ive been through it before I know what I need to do for self care. I pretty much am staying upstairs since I'm not supposed to be doing stairs with the stitches. And lots of rest, I know better by the third not to get sucked into movies, etc, and actually take those rare nap chances, haha.

Aaaaaand the baby just pooped. I will be back in a couple days I think to reflect on recovery more.

Okay, its been a week! Frei-bird is doing great, he is very mellow for the most part, just wish his sleep schedule would align with mine faster. It has been amazing having Dr. Focker home to cook, clean and do all the Littles care and discipline and CRAP I am going to miss him a lot when he goes back to work tomorrow. I went out today and took my overtiredness out on weeds in the garden. It was good.

However, I am now facing the postpartum recovery road. It does not look ANYTHING like what I expected. Let me elaborate a little. I won't go into tons of detail, but it IS postpartum stuff, so yes, it does deal with woman parts.

Unexpected #1:

During final delivery of our baby, his heart rate dropped to 60 or so as he entered the birth canal. The OB and staff went into 'save the baby *now*' mode, and I had to push that baby out forcefully in two or three contractions so they could release the umbilical cord from around his neck. I got a second degree tear (skin and some minor muscle tearing) from this process, and the requisite stitches. So 2-3 weeks before those will be recovered I think? I had a second degree tear with my firstborn so I know the process, I just wasn't expecting to have to go through it again.

Unexpected #2:

Because of the sudden rush to save the baby, the nurse forgot the catheter I had in (I had an epidural at the time)... no one deflated the catheter before I started pushing. Because of the epidural I really didn't feel any pain, but my contractions and pushing, plus body position, ended up forcing the catheter out completely, still inflated. Yeah. This one sucks, big time. I am not sure of the extent of the damage to my body yet, and it may be months before I know. Its painful, but not 24/7, so there's that at least.

Unexpected #3:

The sleep deprivation/sleep schedule shakeup has been hard on me at night. Even though I woke up during pregnancy I was able to go right back to sleep, and I had decent hours (9pm-6am). Frei-bird thinks bed time isnt until 11pm or later, and keeps me up as he adjusts to our schedule. It would be fine, if it weren't for the fact that this contributes to crappy feelings (physically and emotionally) and onset of early postpartum depression. Dr. Focker has been great trying to help me out with this, but there isnt much for him to do - he doesn't have the breastmilk.

We are doing a couple things to address all these. Tonight Dr. Focker will sleep in the family area to give me the bedroom completely, allowing for me to share the bed with our baby and not have to deal with the crib at all. I am also looking at breast pumps.

Anyway, time for bed and the battle begins, haha. More to come later.
