Nationals is April 13-15. BRING IT ON.

So, yes, this challenge is awkwardly cut in half by the only competition that matters, but I think I have found some goals I can work on in both the playoffs and post-season. To get pumped, I am going to look to our bitter rivals: cheerleaders. And what do you know, there happens to be the perfect film about cheerleaders and THEIR OWN BITTER RIVALRIES. It's like it was meant to be.

Goal 1. Talk the Talk, Now... Roll The Roll?

  • Mobilize with a foam roller, lacrosse balls, wine bottle, baseball, etc. at least 4x per week

I talk about mobility and the importance of doing this all of the time, but do I do it? Naaaaaaht really.

Goal 2. Spirit Fingers

  • Work on hand balancing, preferably handstands but other things are acceptable as well, for 60 minutes a week

Good for the core, good for the joints, good for the mindspace. Pretty much EVERYONE should be working on handbalancing all the time.

Goal 3. Rise Above

  • Actually boulder 4x over the challenge

You have the membership and while the gym is beautifullll, you could probably actually take a bold move and use the walls to get into that bouldering groove! You know it's fun after all! These may happen entirely after Nationals, and that is okay!

Goal 4. Get Yo Learn On

  • Duolingo German 20 lessons a week

Everyone else is doing it and the app makes it easy to. Why not?

Ideally... a little alcohol helps you relax better into it, right? But really, I have used wine bottles before, mostly in like a THE STICK capacity of manually rolling rather than rolling on top of.

I took German in high school and in college so in theory I should be able to remember this stuff. I'm not sure how people normally pace them, but I have been blazing through the lessons on my commute. I can get 5 done on the train usually, though perhaps I'll slow down when they get harder?

If you've studied German before, you should be fine with the 20 lessons/week.  There was a huge difference for me in using Duolingo to learn a new language (German for me), and using it to refresh my memory on a language I had already learned (Spanish).  For German, I was having to repeat lessons over and over, and it was so challenging to figure out the grammar.  Spanish was a breeze.

 

And hooray for a new challenge!  The moment you finish with nationals, I'll start nagging you to take care of that bouldering. ;)

This is exactly what happened to me lol. I'm currently still in 'relearning' Spanish mode, and I started German, which I had never studied before.

So confusing!

I decided to drop German for now and focus on getting my Spanish back (I was fluent at one point) and then I'll maybe look at German again, because it seems really cool!

Goal: Deadlift a (Female) Wookie (100 kg): 65.8%

You'd probably be an awesome cheerleader to be fair, given that it's a sport that combines gymnastics, weightlifting (unless you're a flyer) and performance.

 

For now though, good luck with Nationals preparation! :)

There is a lot of overlap between cheerleading and gymnasts -- lots of people wind up doing both at some point in their lives -- but it is an age-old faux rivalry that I am just going to pretend is super serious. ;)

Now I'm imagining various definitions of "mobilizing with wine bottle," and not all of them are health-focused :P

I am still shocked you guys get to wear pants at your gymnastics meets! We have to ask special permission of the judges to wear shorts if someone wants to and our team's average age is like 28. Most of us just go for the tuff skin/butt glue option.
