petefeet
Greetings all! For those of you who know me (poor devils) this is mostly a re-hash. A little about me... I'm 42, live in Nova Scotia (east coast), Canada, unattached, no kids (one cat), have WAY too many books and proud of it. I'm a boiler and refrigeration operator by trade, though my dream is to have a "bricks & mortar" used bookstore. I currently, have a part-time one that I run out of my basement in my spare time and my whole inventory is science fiction & fantasy (my passion). Should be a link to my stores facebook page in my signature. I'm also a Freemason and quite active in my lodge, which has helped offset my normal "hermit" habits and given me a new confidence in myself and abilities In August 2013 I weighted 267 lbs, and something "clicked" in my head and I decided I needed a change. The pic on left was me on August 23, 2015, pic on right was me in August 23, 2013. Need to find missing pic, darn you new forums!!!! So, I started trying to get healthy and since I'm a type "A" person I use www.loseit.com as my food log and calorie counter. I hit my goal weight. The holidays and other life "stuff" put me above my goal weight of 175lbs and the first (and second) challenge of the new year was less than successful for me. Main Quest: For this challenge my main quest is too get to 180lbs, I've gained too much weight these past 12 weeks. To do that I will be doing the following... Side Quests: Keep my daily food log and weigh-ins with my loseit.com account, and stay below my calorie limit. I'm allowing 1 cheat per week. Do at least 2 Cardio workouts a week (min 20 minutes), even if its just walking around my sub-division or playing on recumbent bike. 3. Do the following Body Weight exercises during the week. I used to try for more, but am making my goals reachable and plan on building from here. 50 Push-ups 75 Squats 50 Leg Lunges (combined total of both legs) 75 Dumbbell Rows (combined total of both arms with 25 lb weight) 50 Leg Raises 100 Jumping Jacks 40 Bicep Curls (combined total of both arms with 25 lb weight) 20 Triceps drips No eating or booze after 8pm when I work dayshift or on days off. 12 midnight when working nightshift. I'm allowing myself 1 cheat per week. Late night eating is the worst for me, this works if I can stick with it. Life Quest: My MAJOR life quest is to finish my basement and turn it into rec room/bookstore, though I'm going to add some minor life quests for this challenge for those days I need to do something else. I'll be adding mini-life quests as well. Each week I will spend an hour doing at least ONE of the following things I enjoy. 1. Work on a short story 2. Work at updating my used bookstore in some way (inventory, ads, etc...) 3. Work at exploring my family history 4. Work at my Masonic interest (reading, learning lines, etc...) I also like to write, what I have been doing for the past while is mirroring parts of my real life into a story featuring a halfling named petefeet. More of this in next post. 6 Quote Race: Halfling Class: Rebel Recruit 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th 9th 10th 11th 12th 13th 14th 15th Current Challenge Writer's Guild Fictionfirst Used Books (Feel free to like my page!) m rips
Hi! You sound ridiculously interesting, owning a bookstore sounds like a lovely goal. I also suffer from loving to eat at night so I know that is a hard thing to overcome. I find that brushing my teeth/flossing/mouthwash help me combat that, and typically a nice warm cup of tea. This is all assuming I'm not legitimately starving because I did not eat enough at dinner. I wish you the best of luck, you can do this! 2 Quote Link to comment

petefeet
Hey kids, No story tonight, I just got back at 2pm this afternoon from being away at the "Cardinal's" (girlfriend), showered and changed and went to my nephews 2nd birthday party (that I forgot about) and then hurried in to work a 12 hour shift tonight. Napping at my desk will be happening <g>. Not sure what my weight is, I'm sure it's up, she and I have been eating out this past week since her apartment was all packed up (she bought her first house and I helped her move) and I can feel the dryness from all that sodium. Have a great challenge everyone!!! 2 Quote Race: Halfling Class: Rebel Recruit 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th 9th 10th 11th 12th 13th 14th 15th Current Challenge Writer's Guild Fictionfirst Used Books (Feel free to like my page!) petefeet
Since we last saw petefeet, the little halflings life as been much as it has normally been during these cold winter months. He's been tending his rabbit snares in the woods around his meager lean-too home within the abandoned Pryde family estates, hauling back firewood using his homemade sled and making the odd trip into the village of Apple Valley to barter his labour in exchange for goods that he can't find or make on his own. It is during one such day as our little halfling is out in the cold and empty wilderness gathering deadfall for firewood that he gets the unshakeable feeling that he is being watched. At first the halfling just assumes that it's the female cardinal who is his constant companion, but while she's busily bouncing from branch to branch, the feeling of being watched grows even stronger causing our little halfling to grip one of the thicker pieces of deadwood like a club and come around swinging.... Only to have his club caught in the massive fist of Hal the Werebear Ranger! "Woo there little one, tis no need to be like that, it be only me, what has you so freaked out?" Whether it was being startled by his friend, or his deep loneliness, but petefeet's mental floodgates opened and he started a disjointed ramble about his life and adventurers since they had last seen each other until the werebear put his hands up in surrender and started laughing! "Easy there little one, not so fast, might we continue this epic saga in more comfortable surroundings?" Embarrassed, petefeet blushes and invites his friend back to his home. The two make easy work of pushing the loaded sled back to the abandoned manor house, though petefeet doesn't catch a single glimpse of the cardinal and this makes him slightly sad. Once back at the lean-too, the pair sit and spend the afternoon swapping tales and before long petefeet has the mirrored tome out and is showing it to the werebear. Taking it gently in his massive hands, Hal turns it this way and that and carefully stares into the mirrored cover and absently rubs his hairy chin. After listening to petefeet tell of his adventures while being transported through the magical book, and the means by which the halfling traced certain constellations upon the cover to activate the book, Hal the Ranger carefully hands the tome back and speaks, his voice now serious and commanding... "While my knowledge of the mystic lore is somewhat limited, I do believe I know what this is. It's proper name isn't know to me, but you have puzzled out it's function, allowing two connected peoples the means to come together for brief periods. It's very old and powerful magic, keyed to the 12 constellations of the mystic arts, one for each month. Based off what you have told me, there is a period in which it needs to recharge and likely can only be used once or twice a month. What force or agency has brought this into your hands and what connects this Red Knight and yourself I don't know, I'm sure there is a powerful force at work here." As quick as it started, the dark and serious side of the werebear ranger is replaced with the jolly and carefree Hal that petefeet first met, clearly there is more than one mystery here. Taking a piece of charcoal from the spent fire pit, Hal draws out 12 constellations upon several pieces of birch bark and solemnly hands them to the halfling. "I'm not sure if I should be giving you these, but the choice is yours, all I ask is that you choose wisely with both head AND heart." And with that Hal the werebear ranger bows at the sleeping Mickey the cat and with a cheery wave takes his leave of the halfling. Needless to say that for the rest of the day little gets done around the halfling home within the abandoned estate, though petefeet tries several times to be productive, his thoughts always seem to be wandering down another path. The hours between sunset and the stars coming out seem to take forever in the halflings mind, and for a few brief minutes he was concerned that clouds would obscure his view, but his fears are unfounded. Uncertain where the magical tome will drop him, assuming he can get it to work this evening, worries petefeet for a while until he decides to pack as he would for any overnight journey, with his stout staff, rabbit skin cloak and satchel of provisions. Finally the stars are out and constellation called the TOWER can be clearly seen. Taking the magical tome from it's resting place inside his lean-too, petefeet settles himself upon a part of the old crumbling wall. With Mickey the cat watching from the doorway, petefeet lines the mirrored cover of the book with the stars above and using his finger, traces the pattern of the TOWER. In an instant, the blinding light fills the nights sky, casing harsh shadows against the old rock walls, and when it fades the halfling is gone. Maybe it's a trick of the starlight, but for a brief second the eyes of Mickey the cat seem to flash as well, before the cat wanders back into the lean-too and his bed... Hey kids, This is the first part of a two part story post, I'm just too spent to do it all tonight. Most of the above relates to a visit from my friend Hal, he and I only live 1h 40m apart, but we seem to have a hard time hanging out. We hadn't seen each other since before Christmas, so he and his wife and daughter drove up and the four of us went to see "Batman vs. Superman". I didn't care for the movie, but it was great to just hang with him. Of course he wanted the story about the Cardinal, how we met etc... he knew some of it, but not all and had fun pumping me for info and making my ears turn red <g>. petefeet
When the light from the magical tome fades and the stars flashing in petefeet's eyes are replaced with the real stars overhead, a stab of panic rushes through the halfling freezing his blood as he thinks the magical mirrored book has failed him and that he is still sitting outside his lean-too within the ruined manor house. While still surrounded by weathered stone, this rock has never been worked by hands and the cold wind whistling through them tells our little halfling that there is little protection to be had. Shivering within his rabbit skin cloak and with only the starlight to guide him, petefeet cautiously tries to get his bearings... It would appear that our little halfling is atop of a outcropping of stone just on the border between a mountain range filled with canyons and large grassy plain. Far off into the distance the glow of light of civilization can be seen upon the plains, but how big and how far away it's difficult to judge. With poor light and unstable footing that could result in a nasty fall all around him, petefeet decides to huddle down under a rock cropping and wrapping himself in his cloak, tries to get some sleep. Hours later, the raising sun shines upon the halflings face waking him up from a poor sleep. Rubbing away the dents and bruises left from his rocky bed and stretching out some of the worst of the kinks in his spine, petefeet surveys his surrounding in the light of the day. Sadly, he doesn't seem to learn much more in the daylight, it does appear to be a rather large town off in the distance as can be seen by the plumbs of dust and smoke which overhang it, but little else can be made out. The walls of rock behind him offer even less comfort, and wrapping his cloak tighter around him to block some of the strong breeze, the halfling wonders what he's gotten himself into. With his supplies limited and a good change of catching his death if he stays exposed to these icy winds, petefeet does the only thing that makes any sense and starts the tricky trip to the ground below. Mindful of dislodging rocks or rolling an ankle, our little halfling makes pretty good time and is almost to the bottom when he pauses from his decent and looks out onto the plains spread out in front of him. At first he thinks it's just a trick of the light, since it's gone so quickly, but seconds later it happens again and petefeet convinces himself that he sees movement on the plains between him and the town, the flashing of sunlight on steel is unmistakeable. Could someone have seen him up high on the rocks? petefeet shakes his head at this idle thought, between his rabbit skin cloak and the distance, there is no way anyone could have seen him. Never the less, it's with one eye on the trail down and one on the movement ahead that keeps our little halfling hurrying to get down to level ground. Just as slides down the last couple of feet, dislodging a pile of loose stones and raises a plumb of dust, petefeet is able to make out more detail of what's coming towards him. It would appear to be two people walking beside a large wagon that's being pulled by oxen. One of the people is a mountain of a man, armed and armoured, the other is slighter and also armoured, red armour, bright and shiny.... Hey Kids, All for today, darn work kept me busier that it normally does on a weekend. I'll finish the story tomorrow, though for those of you wondering, it's the story of me helping the Cardinal/Red Knight move into her new house last week. 1 Quote Race: Halfling Class: Rebel Recruit 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th 9th 10th 11th 12th 13th 14th 15th Current Challenge Writer's Guild Fictionfirst Used Books (Feel free to like my page!) petefeet
His eyes weren't playing tricks on him, it really is the Red Knight walking towards him out in the middle of nowhere. Happy beyond words to see her again, his spirits drop as the halfling sees the ease with which she talks to her companion, the large warrior, clearly the two have some kind of history... With no right to be jealous, petefeet tells himself to smarten up, and with a forced smile on his face he steps out into the open so he can be seen. The large warrior quickly draws a huge two-handed sword as soon as he spies the halfling, but with a couple quick words from the Red Knight, he puts it away, through his hands hover over the hilt. "Well met petefeet, it has been too long since I have seen you, you were missed." the Red Knight gives the halfling a warm smile and a wink as she says this, and his heart beats freely again. "One of these days you'll have to explain to me the method in which you pop up and disappear without any warning, but today isn't that day, I fear it's a long tale and we have a long day ahead of us. But where are my manners, this is an old comrade in arms, a Barbarian from the northern reaches, he and I have fought many battles together and is helping me move into my new home." At the puzzled look on the halflings face, the Red Knight explains... "You really don't have any idea where you are do you? We're only a couple miles away from the abandoned temple that was once dedicated to the Sisters of the Fang, and I'm going to turn it into my own little keep." Even though our little halfling is slightly daunted by the masses of furniture, rugs, household goods etc... loaded upon the wagon, he nevertheless falls into step with the Barbarian and the Red Knight. While petefeet couldn't have seen it from his vantage point up on the rocks last night, the overgrown trail through the jagged rocks can be clearly seen from ground level and the trio enter into the canyons. The mood of the company is friendly, though not without distractions. Petefeet and the Barbarian size each other up when the Red Knight isn't watching, each reflecting upon the Red Knight and what she means to them. For his part though, petefeet tries to make polite conversation with the barbarian and before long finds himself warming to the gentle giant without meaning too. The halflings idle thoughts are shattered when a tiny cascade of stones rattle down the side of one of the canyon walls. While it could have been caused by anything, petefeet catches a glimpse of a dark shape darting between rocks high above, and points it out to the rest. "Tis a mountain lion" say the Barbarian "They're common enough in these canyons, they hunt wild sheep and the such, dangerous and needing our respect". The barbarians words do little to comfort the halfling, and his eyes spend most of their time scanning the walls of the canyons instead of looking in front of him. As such when the group stops, petefeet is surprised to have found themselves in front of the Sisters of the Fang temple. It is much as he and the Red Knight found it all those weeks ago. In a small box canyon with high sloping walls featuring hundreds of cracks and holes to harbour snakes the temple sits. Built of native stone, some effort has been made to clear away the thick wines covering the statue of the female warrior and the surrounding columns, but the whole area feels abandoned to the ages. "Enough woolgathering you two, get this wagon unloaded!" with that the Red Knight grabs a broom and attacks the inside of the temple leaving the manual labour for the men. The halfling and the barbarian grin at each other and set to work. The sun has set and the wind has turned cold by the time the halfling and the barbarian drag the last of the heavy chests and pieces of furniture into the temple. While far from set up, the Red Knight has been busy herself, and most of the floor is swept down to mosaic tiles and a cheery fire burns at the altar. "That's the last of it, and I'm expected back in town, the ox and wagon are needed for tomorrow." And with a tiny nod to the halfling, the barbarian takes his leave of the Red Knight leaving the two alone. Hey Kids, This concludes my adventure to help Cardinal/Red Knight move into her newly purchased house last week. While the weather wasn't the best (light rain) we got it done. The Barbarian in the story is a very close friend of the Cardinals (years ago they were more than friends), and I'll be honest I was pretty nervous about meeting him, WAY more than her folks. He holds a special place in her life and he in hers, she's even keeping his snake with her since it isn't allowed at his residence. Now the two of them haven't been anything more than friends for years, and he and I were a bit "stiff" around each other for the first while, but by the end of the day (13 trips in my truck with just the two of us) we were getting along pretty good (we both LOVE to cook). The only other item of note is the "mountain lion". At the edge of the Cardinal/Red Knight's property is a sloping bank that a pretty large ground hog has taken up residence within! The Cardinal/Red Knight has taken to calling him "Phil" after Bill Murray's character in "Ground Hog Day". Main Quest: Get too 180lbs (weighted in at 184.2 when I woke up). Side Quests: 1. petefeet
With a mighty yawn petefeet rolls over and instead of the soft, warm fur rubs he and the Red Knight were laying upon when they went to bed last night, he finds nothing but wet wood, somehow our little halfling has ended up atop his homemade sled. Snapping awake in an instant, our little halfling looks around frantically while rubbing the sleep from his eyes. It's as he feared, whatever magic within the mirrored tome has worn off and he's been teleported back to the abandoned Pryde family estate and taken him away from the Red Knight. Quickly blinking his eyes to clear them, our little halfling forces himself up off the uncomfortable bed, picks up the now closed mirrored tome, and wanders back to his lean-too dwelling only to find a note pinned to the door. "Come soonest, you're needed" signed BLACKSMITH Signing at the summons from his friend, petefeet rips off the piece paper, enters his home to find it as he left it, annoyed Mickey the cat and all, puts the magical book on his rickety table and leaves once again. As he closes the door to his modest home, he hears a familiar sound overhead and watches as the pair of geese that live in the estates pond fly overhead and slowly wing down. Seeing the pair of geese back is a sure sign that spring can't be too far off, and the halfling can't help but smile. Turning his back upon his tiny home within the ruined manor house estates, petefeet starts the long walk to the village of Apple Valley... Hey kids, Not too much going on today, had a moment of weakness while getting groceries and bought (and ate) some Raspberry Danish's! I'm not normally a "sweets" guy, but I didn't have a decent breakfast and that always throws me off. I was running late to get my truck (sled) in on time for oil & tire change and skimped on breakfast. Stopped by the neighbours (geese) and returned their key and caught up with them. They are "snowbirds", Canadians who go south for the winter and I watch their house, and water (generally kill) the wives plants. Had every intention of today being productive, but boss called after lunch and wanted to know if I wanted to work tonight on OT. I said no unless he was really desperate (I need a day off), and couldn't find anyone else. After being dicked around for a couple hours playing phone tag, I get another call saying I'm only one answering phone and he's in a jam. I like my boss, but finding out at 3pm that you have to work 7pm - 7am after being up since 6:15am is a kick in the acorns! Main Quest: Get too 180lbs (weighted in at 183.6 when I woke up). petefeet
Oh gross. Sorry about the OT. I hope you get to sleep at some point this year. :| Thanks Flea, When I got home I took a melatonin, had a hot shower and went to bed. I slept until 1:30pm, almost 6 hours!!! Way more than I normally get when trying to sleep during the day. I "almost" feel human! I know the use of melatonin is something to be careful of, I rarely take it, but for some reason when I'm super tired, I can't get a "restful" sleep without it. 1 Quote Race: Halfling Class: Rebel Recruit 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th 9th 10th 11th 12th 13th 14th 15th Current Challenge Writer's Guild Fictionfirst Used Books (Feel free to like my page!)
