W2D4 - Thursday

Foods:  I was starving this morning (late bf due to doc appt + hockey last night) so I had 2 burritos.   I'll update calories in/out later or tomorrow.  Hoping to not binge after a big burn day.  (This might be a trend, and for obvious reasons.)

Exercise:  Was supposed to run today.  Beautiful weather too!   BUT.   I have taken my body's feed back and realized I need to change something up.    Wednesday lifting sessions burn 300 calories.    Wednesday hockey sessions burn 600-900... at 9pm-11pm!!!   I get home, sleep terribly, have double worked out, and have YET to eat enough calories leading UP to hockey, to hit that 500 calorie deficit level.   In short?  I over train and under eat on Wednesdays, and then expect to treat Thursday like a normal run day?    I will be rearranging my schedule to account for this hiccup in planning so that things work out better.

Art:  Hoping to doodle in a bit here, not likely though.  Day 3 will have to be Friday or the weekend.

Compliment:  I am a healthy and active person.   This compliment comes on the heels of my doctor appt. this morning, where she confessed that my numbers are typically so good, and that I am in a weight range that is so "barely overweight" - that she was having a hard time processing my tests because I don't trigger any concerns from a medical standpoint.   My blood pressure this morning?  103/67 -- pulse 71.    I am capable of a lot of things; things I think I take for granted.  Not even just in the 'oh someone with this disability couldn't do this' but in the every day, run of the mill way.   I'm 39.   I run, I play, I do silly Dance video games.   I rough house with my nephews.  I do sports.  I hike, I bike, I live.    ALL OF THESE THINGS, come from having a body that is healthy, and capable, regardless of the size of my pants, the number on the scale, or the pooch on my belly.    And today, I am going to grab that body (hot) and say, "Hey!  Thanks for having my back through thick and thin.   You're pretty amazing!"

W2D5 - Friday

Foods:  Ok, so I ate a wee bit over maintenance?  But hey!  Keep the metabolism guessing, right?    Girls called last minute and wanted Shenanigans.   GO ME!   I was enough outta my funk to do a spontaneous outing!     All you can eat Sushi!  Ate 2296, burned 2218.   Considering I had a 1000 calorie deficit on Wed from hockey, I'm not even stressing yo.

Exercise: I was exhausted all day, but forced myself to run at lunch anyway.   It was a shitty run, with many walk breaks, but I made 2.5 miles and burned calories, and got my heart rate up.   And thank goodness too!  Or else I'd have felt really guilty about the sushi.

Art:

Compliment:

Shenanigans with my hockey besties after sushi.   Their training is going well I think!

Then I played some Ori.  Finally got past the gravity level.   With the controls all reversed and switched around and gravity sucking you this way and that.   Oi!    It's SO BEAUTIFUL and the music is ENCHANTING!   Why did they have to make it so difficult.   I seriously handle Assassins Creed better than this darn platform game.   Now, despite it being a weekend, I am tired, so I sleep.   Tomorrow is super activity day.    AND I am going to eat healthy and not let it be an excuse to go nuts.  Especially since I had an indulgence out tonight.

Breakfast at home.  Pancakes and eggs I think.   Then lifting with Wonder Woman, then a 20 mile bike ride, then I think The Patio, where I can get some chicken kabobs with rice pilaf.  Yup yup.

W2D6 - Saturday

Foods: My weekends suck at food lol.    Homemade panckes for bf, check.   Then a granola bar on the bike ride.  Then Longhorn, where I ate all the foods.  Calories in 1970 / Out will hit around 2800.

Exercise: Strength Workout with my friend at her gym, then a 21 mile bike ride.  Pro tip.  Do not go, "Oh summer day, let's get the bikes out!  And ride 21 miles after not riding for 8 months."  Bad plan.

Art:  I had every intention of working on some today, but it's 9:40 and I am actually considering bed.  LOL.  Tomorrow!

Compliment:  Looks like I need a pic or compliment tomorrow too.   *yawn*

Bed time for this tired chick.

W2D7 - Sunday

Foods: All the foods are belong to me?   No tracking.   Had much much delicious food.  And shakes.  And then damnit all to hell, fresh Swedish Fish???

Exercise:  No official exercise, but I did get 10k steps in and I rearranged my room in a major way!  So I still tipped the day at almost 2300 calories burned.

Art:  Nope, didn't happen.   Looks like my Sunday turned into a FUNday.

Compliment:  Also did not get this done.   Because I forgot.  Not because I couldn't do it!

I had a really fun filled, SUN-filled weekend and the weather was amaaaaaazing.    Whatever happened this weekend (like gaining 4lbs from all the eating out I did) I am not too upset by it.  It was a LIFE weekend, and I sure lived it up!   Week 2 recap coming up.

Goal #1 -- Fuel yourself properly!
TOTALS PER WEEK 6
CHALLENGE TOTAL 19 / 30

Tracked 6 of 7 days.   I did not track on Sunday  (Wow, this could be almost identical from last week.   I see my trouble day...)  I ate like crazy on Friday night (sushi with the girls) and Saturday, but I TRACKED.   And in fact, Saturday still ended up in major deficit because I did a strength workout AND a 21 mile bike ride!     Still though, the weekends are probably seriously undoing all my weekday effort.  Which doesn't seem fair... that 15 meals during the week can be perfect!  But have 4 fun meals on the weekend and all progress lost.    Still.  Info gathered.   Perhaps I should be more strict for a stretch of 4 weekends and see if I find the weight moving better then!  Yup!  This is a plan!

Goal #2 -- Train for all things!

TOTALS FOR CHALLENGE

RUNNING  5/10

STRENGTH  9/15

HOCKEY 3 / 6-8

RUN 2X/WEEK  -- Got both runs in this week!   The second was a struggle, with many walk breaks, but I SHOWED UP AND DID IT!

STRENGTH 3X/WEEK -- Got all 3 days in.  This marks 4 straight weeks of getting all 3 days!  Getting solid here.

HOCKEY **X/WEEK -- 1 hockey this week, because our co-ed game was during Star Wars time.   Nerds before uh, jocks?  Nothing rhymes!

BUT!  I think I could safely count the 21 mile bike ride as an alternative to the missed hockey. :)

Goal #3 -- Practice your Art!
ART 3X/WEEK

TOTALS FOR CHALLENGE

ART 7/15

WEEK 2 - Monday and Wednesday are still great days for art.   The suntastic weather drew me outside for most of the weekend, and by the time I got in, I was too tuckered to do things.   I'm talking like ... went to bed at 10:30 on a weekend, levels of tired!   But I need to refocus on this.    I am slipping up on art days too frequently.

Goal #4 -- Compliment yourself!
STARPUCK SHOWS OFF HER AWESOME 2X/WEEK
WEEK 1 - 1/2 - Ok, I missed out on this one too, against because I was just so caught up in all my outside fun time, spring cleaning, do stuff mode!  I will attempt to get 3 in this week to right this wrong. :D

latest?cb=20140105133402
CHALLENGE TOTALS 3/8

Thoughts and stuff.    Kinda of a brain vomit.   No worries if its TL;DR :)

Well kids, I am stumped!   Alright, yeah, this weekend was not a great way to gauge progress.  Overeating on the Friday sushi, followed by a double workout Saturday, and eating whatever I wanted at Longhorn Steakhouse (I counted the calories and was still in deficit for the day due to strength + bike ride) then having a Frak It day on Sunday meant I am up 4lbs from Thursday.    Yes yes, I know.  These are FLASH POUNDS.   (Like a flash flood, but with pounds, due to eating lots of restaurant food and having that lovely water retention from all the overly saltified food that restaurants serve you.)

The reason I am stumped, is that my test results came back and everything is normal.   Like, super good normal!   This is great news!!! I AM HEALTHY!    NOTHING IS WRONG!   But then ... what the hell is broken with my formula?    What can I do differently that will net me better results?     Do I stop trying?    I feel like if I stop tracking things, one of two outcomes are inevitable.  1.  I start eating whatever, whenever and gain a ton of weight.     2.  I go with what's worked before and stop tracking, and just 'eat clean and smart' - but when I've backlogged my 'clean and smart' eating ... I am usually grossly UNDER a reasonable amount of calories consumed.   That will have me losing muscle and energy and performance.

My doc is not at all concerned with my weight.   She even said, "You're barely overweight."   According to height/age charts, I should be between 109 HAH!  and 137 - so at 157 I am 15% over the maximum.     I know I will NEVER be 109.  I don't WANT to be.  Hell, in high school I was really damn fit, and I was 120lb.     I don't even want 135 anymore.   140.  That's all.   Just enough that most of my curves are toned curves.   My belly doesn't have a balloon shape to it, and well, my thighs aren't ever going to be different than what they are, but if I could lose an inch at the thigh level I'd be happy as a clam.

I thought about seeing a nutritionist or dietician.   But, hah, our incredible health care system won't pay for preventive measures --- and I'm not 'Obese enough' for insurance companies to pay for a visit to one of them.    So it means I am on my own.   Ok, I got a herd of Nerds at my back to help me.     I am actually in the process of trying to tell myself to "Let it Go".   As in.   "Starpuck, you're active, you're living life fully, your weight does not hold you back in the slightest, you eat pretty healthy about 80% of the time, but don't hate on yourself for caving in to super fresh, super soft Swedish Fish, because ... those times are rare... enjoy the fish when they are perfect.   Your numbers are good, cholesterol and sugar and blood pressure ... so, just, stop, fretting.   Do what you do because it's healthy and good for you.   Don't worry about what shape, size or number your body ends up being.  It's a good body.   It does its job really well for you.   So. Just. Be."

And maybe with that, I will find some success.   The question remains, can I actually shift my mindset to follow that!   It may have to be a fake it until you make it endeavor.   But I think I'm almost ready to give it a shot.

W3D1 - Monday

Foods: As per usual, my weekday routine is rather spotless.   Too spotless.    Calories out 2400 / vs in: 1694.

Exercise: Switching up my schedule to accommodate Wed night hockey.   Ran today (also, sunny and 83, woo) and did so outside.   In case you all were wondering, bodies aren't great at shifting from 'outdoor run in mid 50's to outdoor run in mid 80's' if the time between those two runs was just 4 days. ;)   I did run for a straight two miles, but at that point I started alternating because whew!   Purple face lasted a good hour after I finished.     Burned close to 400 calories on that too.   Thus the in/out snafu.

Art:  I spent probably an hour working on inking the latest Jaiks pic.   It's keen that programs draw rectangles, but, I needed a full blown cube lol!  Holocrons are a bitch to draw, ok?   Only really managed to go from pencil sketch to loose inking in Manga Studio.

Compliment:

Other Adulting that got done today!

  • Switched auto insurance, because All State is going to save me $150 a year.   That was enough to warrant the switch.
  • Got all the new paperwork done and printed out my temporary ID cards, and signed up for their account site.
  • Spent the rest of the evening researching and pricing out the National Park trip I want to do this year.   8 days, 7 nights, 3 NP, 1 NM, airfare, lodging, car rental, gas, food all included, looks to be about $1400.    **

**This is a trip to Carlsbad Caverns, Guadalupe Mountains, Big Bend and White Sands.   It's a ridiculously remote area of the country, and thus they jack the prices on like ...everything.    But we'd be splurging for two nights to stay in a suped up ghost town, so that's kinda neat!   It also snags me 3 more NP's!  Which gets much harder to do once you hit the areas where the parks are conveniently close together.    The only other trips I have going is my sister's trip up to Isle Royal NP (long weekend, road trip, much cheaper) and a visit or two to Canada! :)   So I think I'm good to indulge on this trip.    Heck, I haven't spent my tax return yet, and this about matches it!

Rest of the week's plan, super busy.

Tuesday - Strength Workout / Mage Game

Wednesday - Help sis empty the attic for roof repairs / Hockey

Thursday - Strength Workout / D&D after work.

Friday - Run / TBD

Saturday - Strength Workout with Rookie in the am / Nephew spending the weekend with us!

Sunday - Church, Nephew, Stick & Puck maybe, hockey at 5:20 / Star Wars

Like, seriously.  Whoa.   LOL.

Just out of curiosity, do you ever revisit your older challenges? We go way back, and I remember when your biggest diet concern was trying to avoid breakfast burritos. :D I also remember you weren't nearly as hard on yourself about what you ate as you are now. Sometimes I think you may be overthinking it?

Also, what about body fat percentage? Have you checked that out lately?

From my POV, you're doing damn good. In fact, you know how you've always been inspiration for me.

So...

Exercise: Whse weightlifting - burned hardly any calories.   Way to be too efficient body, lol!  Details below.

Art:  Will try to get some in tonight before after Mage.   Something totally different today.    Just a rough line sketch because, ya know, draw a dragon... but with eagle hind legs and feline front legs and a lion tail, and ... A MORE DIFFERENT S!  I SAID CONSUMMATE V'S!!    Could be that my little magelet, Deedra, has a friend spirit dragon.   >.>   Dragon pics are a lot like snakes.   They can't grow bigger than the cage they are in.    When I shift this to Manga Studio, I am gonna try lengthening the neck and enlarging the head a wee bit.     I mean, dragons are lanky, weirdly proportioned creatures to begin with, but I think that might help things.

Compliment:  I got one of these for today!

I'ma call this pic, "Guns and ammo!" LOL!

Hello badass!   What an amazing picture here!   A smile filled with rarry-goodness and confidence, a beautifully defined bicep, the evidence of hard work and the tools of the trade surrounding the frame.   Yup.  Pretty damn bad ass.   Definitely a photo of someone who is taking care of themselves and working to keep their body healthy and strong!   Way to go Starpuck!

That's one impressive bicep, I must say.

It's good that the doc has given you a clean bill of health, even if it still leaves you confuddled about the food stuffs. I like your focus on mindset. I, for one, am always impressed with the things that you do and would love to be able to do some of them (someday......) Maybe a bit of just existing happily is what you need, hopefully you can find a way through the mental minefield and into the mindset you want.

I'm a little jealous of your national park planning, there are several park in the US I'd love to visit some day. Where in Canada are you thinking of traveling to?

hello dear friend! I was off-line for the weekend that turns out to be the most busiest weekend of all time!!! you are incredible! MOST IMPORTANTLY, your life is beautiful. I love your travel plans. you are amazing and a gorgeous human being.

I know you can shift your mindset! I know it! <3

Thanks KJ!   It's really awesome having one of my twinses at my back!     You make me blush!   Ya know, when you're not making me go, 'Wow she is so inspiring!'

So...

STOP BEING SO HARD ON MY FRIEND!!!!

Chickie.   HUG HUG and more HUG.  Thanks.    I have this issue where when I don't think about it, I lose weight!   But usually it's because in my brain, 'eating healthy' means eating these bird sized portions, and I end up, on some days, with net calories of like 700.   So not good.  So I actually track more as a way of eating ENOUGH food.  Except when it doesn't work I freak out. :)      My BF% is 34% and that's really the number I care about.    My belly got boobly again and my clothes tight.   I want to shake that.  Whatever weight the scale says, if my bf% is done, I truly would be okay with.  And I am SO eating burritos tomorrow since I have hockey and can afford them!

Great pic!

Teehee, thanks TANK!  You're such a good ranger watcher!

Man you get with the wisdom words a lot these days Obax. :D    Existing happily... that's deep and probably really really on point.    I am aiming for that now.  In fact, I may have a new goal to work toward as I plan these trips!    As for Canada, Toronto-ish area.   I >.> may know a person or two or 8 up there.    Ok ok, it'd be a nerd trip.  There, I've said it!

It's so good to see you trying to shift more towards just being.

What is it you're trying to do as far as weight loss? Specially why are you trying to lose weight?

That bicep? Helooooo nurse! Jealous.

Haaa, now that you're watching Animaniacs, that makes sense huh? ;)    (That was seriously one of my fave shows ever.)    Just being.   So critical.  So hard sometimes.   I just want to lose this puffiness I gained over the last several months.  I did have about 3 months of limited activity due to the shoulder, but January hit and I returned to hard core mode.    With no progress.     I have a belly.   Last year I had only some floofy pooch.   I was okay with pooch.   I just want to get rid of that fat and be more trim because I felt more comfortable in my clothes (and skin) like that.  Maybe that's something I need to get over.      I feel like this chart is pretty accurate to what my 34% body fat looks like.   And I really only would want to get to the 25% mark.  Ok, maybe 23% heh.

My darling, I submit for your approval, Aphrodite of Cnidus.

aph_knidos.jpg

I post this not to casually inflict nudity on the internet, but for a cogent point.  The goddess Aphrodite is the Greek goddess of beauty and fertility.  She represents the female form in its most perfect.  I have seen a reproduction of this statue and let me tell you that the detail does not indicate a woman with 25% body fat.  Or even 30%.

Is there something wrong with wanting to improve your physical conditioning or change your body composition?  No.  Absolutely not.  People that say otherwise need a punch in the neck.  But I take issue with your tone (as usual) and the self-punishing mode that it takes.  You couch your descriptions in nonsense words to hide the scorn and disdain you feel.  Fie, I say!  Fie!  You are a magnificent example of a human being and one of my favourite people.  No one takes that tone with the people I love.
