Woo hoo! Congrats on everything working out perfectly! Just make sure to notify them of your pending September vacation ;) I need to collect as many nerds as I can.

Honestly I was talking to Flex last night about how this is my only worry.  Not that they wouldn't let me, exactly (it's 6 months out!), but that a MAJOR deadline might fall near it and I can't be spared.  Yea, it's only 3 work days, but if the deadline is September 30th, I don't know if five of the 10 days before hand could be spared on me not working.

Then again, I might ask in that case to let me work from Camp.  I think that's a better option than cancelling completely.

Anyway, time shall tell.  Maybe we can schedule things around that...

I do <3 you all, life just keeps throwing things at me (not all bad things, just lots of things). I was going to do this challenge, but I'm going to be on work travel for 1.5 weeks of it... Next challenge, I'll be around, I swear! (feel free to annoy me if I'm not too)

Thanks everyone!

Yesterday was near perfect. This morning involved The Tribe and breakfast with TinMan and his girlfriend and Ska. I took a nap post-Non Stairs workout (thanks freak spring snowstorm!), and just relaxed most of the day. Now I'm waiting to go see Company and relax for a week.

This is good. So so good. About damn time.

Alrighty then.  I'm back, ladies and gentlemen and Nerd-do-wellers.  Well, mostly back.

Still running on vacation timetables since I got in late Wednesday night.  Sleep is wonderful.  And I forgot what it was like to enter a weekend and not dread the coming Monday. (Well, Tuesday, since the Marathon is Monday and no one is going to be able to do work that day.)  Vacation was wonderful, though I wasn't as active as I was expecting to be, and ate a HELL of a lot worse than I should have.  But it was awesome nonetheless.  I'd share some videos of the awesome I saw, but I believe I would be killed for doing so, because the parties videoed felt she was less awesome than she should have been.  I'd prefer not being kicking in the head for that.  But it was awesome.

As for the challenge stuff.... Errrrr.... Challenge?  What challenge?

I did do some important stuff.  Namely taxes.  And some forms filled in for the job.  And I didn't have it but I also did a WHOLE bunch of shopping to prepare for the job next week for food - batched cooked potatoes, portioned out jerky, got mostly-healthy snacks.  Things to help sustain me while I figure everything out.  Assuming I have one snack a day per workday, it's almost a month's worth of snacks.  Worse case scenario is I make sure I overload with fruit.  I'm in an area that has actual shops around the corner that I can head out to for a minute for the first time in ever, so that's going to be an interesting temptation to fight.

Still, the next two weeks I need to figure out my health insurance, and at least get an oil change.  Additional plus side of this job is that I can take public transit to the building, which means I can feasibly drop my car off at the mechanics/inspector's to get inspected/fixed, and still manage to get to work.  The only way I've been able to do that in the past is borrow a car from my parents, so this is kind of awesome for me.

Lesse....  Workouts hopefully will get figured out this week, though since it's a short week things are going to be wonky.  I've done practically nothing about organizing my books.  Maybe tomorrow night I'll do that after Kyellan heads home since I convinced him to come hang out, with or without his racing.  Also apparently Google Sheets doesn't do tables as well as Excel?  So I think I'm going to keep things as an Excel file.  Might try to add in 14 books tonight.  That's like, just entering the Dresden Files at this point, which I can actually autofill from the internet practically.

Plus side, all the travel has allowed me to almost devour three books already.  I wrapped up Casino Royale on the plane to vacation, started Shadows of Self on the plane and finished it on the ride back, and read over a third of The Bands of Mourning on the return flight.  So that right there is the three books I have for this challenge.  Then I need to figure out what I'm reading next.  I have a few things on the list, but I'm wondering if I should go mystery/thriller or hit up some fantasy.  I've been pretty much sci fi since January, though the Wax and Wayne Mistborn series is arguably more steampunk than anything else.  Any recommendations?

Okay, relax another 2-3 days, and then start the new adventure.  I'll try to keep you guys updated, but life is gonna be a mite hectic.

Happy Sunday!  After hanging out with Kyellan yesterday (who was kind enough to let me go to class in the morning and also recorded a randori practice I was semiforced into), I tried to adult a bit.  So I organized/threw out some more remnants of Fat RP.  Got rid of things I look like a kid in his dad's clothing in, mostly to donate, and then tossed stuff that was old, worn, and ripped.

Then I went to class this morning.  It wasn't super populated today.  Ended up working with one of the newer students who just tested for 5th kyu who's fun to work with.  I had a slight problem of apparently doing slightly different variants of the throws than were actually demonstrated.  Whoops.  Second class I got used for most of the demos, and was paired with a guy who's tricky to work with, because he's.... kinda big and short.  Getting under his center is hard as hell.  But I have been getting used to taking longer strides and constantly dropping my center through the technique these days, so it's a bit easier for me these days.  Oddest thing that happened to me in the second class is that my toe magically started bleeding for some reason.  No idea why.  Just looked down to see my toe red and tracking drops on the mat.  Double whoops.

After that, I spent the rest of today doing some serious adulting.  I bought a second dresser thing, constructed it, and reorganized my dressers so the new closet thing holds my workout clothes, towels, and bed sheets (clearing up two dresser drawers in the process).  Then I went crazy and cleaned my entire room, including the closet.  And emptied the closet.  And then cleaned out my car from junk.  And then batch cooked dinners for the week.  And did a load of laundry.  And added a few extra books to my library inventory.  And I finally finished Walking the Way, the book I said I was going to finish like, two challenges ago.

So.  I've been going slightly crazy, but it means tomorrow I can totally zen out.  Which is good.  Because the new job starts Tuesday.

Huzzah, all the adulting!

"RP, hope you had a nice vacation.  Just FYI, we don't think we're going to be able to start on Tuesday because we're still working through some things on our end.  So don't come in.  I'll keep you in the loop."

Because CLEARLY this job hunt rollercoaster could not stay simple, right?  RIGHT?!

So.

New job DOESN'T start tomorrow because apparently paperwork hasn't been officially signed off on to even HAVE A COMPANY EXIST FOR ME TO WORK FOR.

Because of course things can't go THAT smoothly for me.

Would-be Boss man said that the worst case scenario is the board doesn't sign off on the company (because they feel the science isn't valid), but he also said that in that case he would forward my contact information to pretty much everyone he works with to get me a job ASAP. Small mercies, I suppose.

But it for now, it means I relax more I guess. Finish reading more books. Work out. Eat well. Try and not panic. Sounds easy enough, right?

Wow, all the adulting. I am impressed.

Interesting difference in terminology. My dojo would call that giawaza, not randori. The difference is that in giawaza the ukes take turns attacking, as shown in Kyellan's video. In randori they are all out to get you at the same time. Nice variety of techniques and adapting your movement when the first thing didn't work. I envy your koshis.

I hope you get some solid news about your new company so that you can relax and enjoy a few extra days of well-earned vacation before you start.

New job day one.

It it was crazy and overwhelming and kinda awesome.

AgentSka the. Twisted my arm (read:asked) if I wanted to grab beer and a burger. He is a bad influence and I'm a lightweight these days. So I'm fairly buzzed and ate like crap the last few hours. But feeling reeeeeeally good.

Tomorrow should prove interesting.

So,.......I'm officially the worst NF guy ever.  I didn't click follow when I first read your thread and got sidetracked for the last 2 pages with life.  I'm a bad person.  You can say it. :(

But I'm stoked to hear your roller coaster appears to be coming to an end!  Awesome news on the job front, and lots and lots of adulting getting done!  You are an inspiration.  Seriously, if the job I'm interviewing for tomorrow falls through (hope not), I'm taking a page out of your book and going to a recruiter.

So, hello from me!  And I'm looking forward to the next week of challenge!  I swear I won't mess up following my NF friends next challenge. :)

Dude, no worries.  I've spent plenty of times getting eaten by life and only catching snippets of your threads, so it's all fair. :P

Um.  So.  Life.  This half week has been interesting.  I'm really curious to see how things will go when we have, I dunno, actual science to do.  I'm currently trying to still figure out how my life is going to be organized.  But so far I seem to be quite content.  The three days were so far typified by a "whole crap, it's WHAT time?!" feeling.  And that has been without labwork.  Because we kinda don't have a lab stocked to do work in.  That's this coming week, hopefully.  Oh, and I'm mostly alone for the day, at least in terms of people from my actual company.  It's more like having coworkers who remote in.  I'm not super sad about it, but it does make being a bit more outgoing difficult.  Ah well.

Anywho.  Current plans are to bring my start hours back a bit.  Give me time to get some paperwork done in the morning, and if I get devoured in the lab (eventually), it won't matter.  I'm thinking if I can make it in for 8ish, things will be fine.  Problem is the bus schedule doesn't exactly let me do that easily.  So I need to play with it.  I'm only a mile and a half from the subway, so on nice days I think I may walk to the T.  It would take slightly longer than if I was on a bus (20ish minutes vs 15ish), but it does allow me to do that whenever the hell I want to leave my house.  Maybe figure out regular bus times first, and then play with that part.  And this is only from my house.  If I can park at my dojo for a few days, that means my schedule changes again.  SO HECTIC.

At the moment, I'm thinking I'll be aiming for aikido on Saturday and Sunday classes (probably 3-4 on the weekend), Tuesday (both 6PM and 7PM classes), and maybes for Monday (6PM) and Thursday (7PM).  I already have one friend who's offered to drive me home on Tuesdays if I don't get a chance to park there in the morning, but that would still leave Monday a bit open.  The Thursday 7PM class allows me to get home and grab my car with enough time before class, so that doesn't worry me.  Biggest change is dropping Wednesday.  Since I'll probably still drive to Stairs (I am not dealing with public transit at pre-6AM), I'll have to drive to Stairs, then home to shower, and then catch the bus.  Means I won't start work until 9:30ish, so rushing to get to class seems silly.  That said, I CAN take a bus directly to my gym to do some lifting.  So I may start lifting Wednesday and Friday again.

So, estimate looks like this:

Monday Night - Aikido x1 (?)

Tuesday Night - Aikido x2

Wednesday Morning - Stairs

Wednesday Night - Lifting (?)

Thursday Night - Aikido (?)

Friday Night - Lifting

Saturday Morning - Aikido x1 OR Special activity (rucks, guests, hermit day, seminars, etc etc)

Sunday Morning - Aikido x1-2

So it means I'm dropping aikido to average 4 classes a week at a minimum, which still isn't terrible.  It'll probably be more like 5 or 6.  And I think the extra breaks for thing might be good for me.  And having space open up for extra lifting is good.  On the lifting, I may also ditch my gym and buy another membership at a nicer club in Davis square.  Still easy for me to get to even if this job fails eventually, but at the moment very simple to get off at the station and then jump to the gym, work out, and then catch my bus home from there.  thoughts to float around.

I'm also debating getting a GR1 Ruck for work.  Because I need a backpack, and that would allow me to being food, computer, and gym clothes with little issue.  And the fact I can carry it on my back makes life much easier than the messenger bag I currently have.

Aaaaaaand I think I'm doing a GORUCK Challenge.  It's taken two years, but Nerds have been wearing me down.  And a week before my 30th birthday there is a GoRuck challenge in Boston.  Soooo...... yea.  That's almost all set.  Downside is I'd do that instead of the Spartan.  Because the Spartan is the same day.  I'm not THAT crazy.  Yet.  But if things keep moving the way they are moving.... welp.  I need some goals in life anyway.

And so that's been my life the last few days.  I've adulted a bunch.  Gotten my life kind of settled for work.  Got plots and plans aplenty.  I'm calling this challenge a wash, but in the best way possible, because everything got so upended this challenge ended up being a bit more weird for me than intended.

But it's all great.  And I already have plots for the next challenge - simpler stuff - but it shouldn't be so difficult that I get totally eaten again.

Look, I can keep hoping, alright?
