I like it and I'm a chick.  The philosophical stuff, which is most of it, is also useful for women.  The stuff about shaving one's face, I just skip.

Big fan here.  Not a man, but I refer to a lot of their philosophical articles, reading lists, skills, and fitness programs a lot for ideas and thoughts.  I'm a huge fan of sites that cut through the BS and nonsense and get down to the nitty gritty importance of doing things for yourself.

As a woman, I enjoy their site, lol. The articles are interesting and informative. I actually considered signing up for their Strenuous Life program before I found nerd fitness. I was really drawn to both the philosophy of the program and the level system inherent in the merit badges. I ended up passing on it because of the male-centric view and the price. I wasn't sure I would fit in and be able to keep up. But it all worked out, because that led me to search for other programs, and I found the Nerd Fitness Academy shortly after!

I have listened to a smattering of episodes of AoM. I really like how many episodes work like book reviews with the author. Hyperfocus is my favorite so far. I'm a little skeptical of Brett McKay's ability to discern a good guest/topic from a bad one, though. For example, he's had on Jordan Peterson, and recently did an episode titled "The Worth of War". Admittedly, I haven't listened to them to know what he had to say, but I'm only in it (listening to podcasts) for my own benefit, not just to have something to hate.

I think it's more that McKay's willing to entertain a variety of guests / topics without necessarily agreeing or disagreeing. He's interviewed Jordan Peterson but he's also interviewed Adrianne Huffington (founder of the Huffington Post) and done episodes on "unschooling". I do think the historical episodes tend to be his best work.

I used to follow their site a lot. I don't remember if they did a revamp to a more 'old-timey-bordering-on-turn-of-the-century-punk' (is that a thing?) and it kinda lost me for a while. I'd check in but not as often. Although their recent design changes for the new year have me back and exploring again. Kinda lame on my part that a design change would scare me off but... it did.

EDIT

Duh completely forgot! I loved their collection on Thumos and unconventional workouts of strong men like kettlebells and clubs.

Yeah, I dig AoM and the McKay's (Brett's wife helps a lot, so I like to give her credit, too). I can't pick a favorite, but I think I've been most intrigued by his work on the Spartans, as well as some of the stuff about World War II and what we can learn about grit and toughness from the veterans. I also really appreciated the guest posts by Erwan Le Corre (MovNat founder) and Steve Kamb (of course).

It's ironic how I found nerdfitness.com through an article on AoM that I was reading. So I have a fondness for both websites
