SnowOwl Makes the Most of Every Day!

I might still be working on this a bit, but here is my new challenge! I tried to make all the quests support each other - running counts as outside time, outside time counts on my to do list, etc. Also, my to do list is flexible enough that I can adapt for anything that may come up - as long as I plan it the night before it counts.

Quest 1: Get Moving!

I will continue working towards a pull-up three days a week.

And I will be adding in couch to 5k.

Tentatively, I will be running on T, TH, Sa and doing bodyweight progressions on M, W, F, with an extra rest day on Sunday.

Quest 2: Be Productive!

I will create a daily to do list (trying out some apps along the way). I will earn 3 points for making the list and 5 points for using it as a schedule for the day. Each task I cross off my list earns me points - 1 point per 5 minutes spent on it.

*80 points = 100%

Quest 3: Get Outside!

Everyday I will spend at least 2 hours outside. My focus during this outside time will be gardening, but running and other activities also count.

To account for springtime weather, time over 2 hours on another day can help make up missed time on rainy or windy days. Only time missed due to weather (or unavoidable commitments) can be made up.

Quest 4: Simplify!

Decluttering, reorganizing, and generally heading towards simplicity and less stuff. Task points will be a flat amount, as opposed to time spent, since this will encourage speed rather than overthinking and dwelling. 5 points per task.

*Daily goal is 5 points. Make-ups allowed by doing extra on other days.

Quest 4: Craft!

Do at least one task daily to prepare for upcoming craft fair.

*pass/fail - progress made or not made

To pass each quest I need at least 85% success. 1 day per week is a rest day and doesn’t count against my score - it doesn’t have to be the same day for all quests.

Rewards: TBD

I may have a few things to add later, but I think I just need to call it a day!

Day Zero:

Summary: I’ve been working hard and am going to count my time today so if the weather gets bad I have a little extra saved up. :)

Also, I have decided to change Quest #4. Simplicity will be put on hold as I really need to prepare for my first craft fair on the 16th and today has shown me that both things are not possible right now. If I find myself with time, I can always do some decluttering tasks for Quest #2, but I need to be preparing daily for at least the next two weeks.

Quest 1: Get Moving!

C25k day one - success!

It only took a few minutes for my dog to learn the c25k app - if we are walking and he hears that “ding” he starts running before I even realize it dinged.

Quest 2: Be Productive!

Exhausted by 3pm today. I think I need to figure out a way to account for tasks that are more tiring so I don’t overdo it trying to get my points. Maybe I’ll add in a few extra points for more demanding tasks, or change the daily goal. I’ll give it another day and then see what adjustments need to be made because I worked my butt off today and didn’t hit my target!

Also, I’m checking out a new website - getyedone.com, has anyone tried it? On first cursory glance, it is kind of what I would wish the NF character site will be like someday.

It's smart to adjust and adapt your goals like that, when you see the need.

Day One:

Summary: All quests successful.

Quest 1: Get Moving!

Rest Day - which is good because I really did overdo it yesterday. I slept in really late today and didn’t get any of my morning things done, but I feel much better!

Quest 2: Be Productive!

I went grocery shopping! Didn’t get much done around the house today though, but it was an acceptably productive day and I made a good healthy dinner.

points: 87/80

I’m going to see what my numbers are for tomorrow, but my goal of 80 points seems to work ok as long as I plan ahead for some down time - like today I read in the hammock for 30 minutes and counted that. I think scheduling down time in my day is a good idea anyway.

Quest 3: Get Outside!

2 hours; 100% - relaxed in the hammock and read for a bit at the end of the day, did some searching in the scrap pile for pieces of lumber or some bricks to use for flower planters, visited with my niece outside

hours ahead or behind: +2.5

Quest 4: Craft!

I crafted. I spent an hour and a half sewing today, making headbands. I also bought some metal trays to display my magnets on. (I tried to buy them at a thrift store, but they were $4 each! I went to the dollar store instead. I really prefer not to purchase new if I can help it, but I can’t pay quadruple the price!)

12 days until the craft fair, I feel about 50% ready.

Day Two:

Summary: Summoning (meditation) for the mini is really helping me de-stress and get things done. I never thought I’d like meditating or find it so helpful. I can do so much more for the minis than I would ever push myself to do on my own - so glad we have them!

Quest 1: Get Moving!

Bodyweight Rows - I only have one height to do these from and it’s a bit too low for my current strength. So, I had to bend my knees and put my feet on the ground. I was able to do 5/5/5, so I think next time I’ll try with one leg extended and one bent.

Quest 2: Be Productive!

I had art group this morning, and had some trouble getting started when I got home. I did get moving though and the house is so much calmer and cleaner. I guess a rainy day now and then is helpful for staying indoors and cleaning.

points: 71/80

If everyday was like today (88%) I would still pass at the end of the challenge. So, I think I will keep my goal at 80 points. Mondays are a lower productivity day for me as I have my art group in the mornings. I still count productive art time, but there is travel time and social time in those mornings that I’m not counting. It feels fair to have a passing score on days like this, but not a top score.

Quest 3: Get Outside!

.5 hour; 25% - stormy today, but I snuck out for a short walk during a break in the rain; I’m using some of my saved up time (1.5) to fill-in today so still at 100%

hours ahead or behind: +1

Quest 4: Craft!

I crafted!

Today was art group, I met with my selling partner at group and we worked on a design for our booth sign. I also spent 50 minutes ironing dog collars this evening in preparation for sewing tomorrow.

11 days until the craft fair

Meditation is awesome :D how are you doing it? Are you using an app/guided meditations? I found some guided meditation with lord of the ring theme that are awesome for relaxing in the evening. :D

Now I have to search for that! The mini this week requires guided meditation, which is working well for me as a beginner.

I'm using an app called HeadSpace.

I'm catching up on my reading. It looks like you are off to a good start.

One site that my family has been using for productivity since July is habitca.com. My husband and I got tired of lecturing our teens about responsibilities around the house so we made it into a game. In habitica we set up a group so that we fight some sort of monster. If someone in the family doesn't complete all of their todos, it causes the monster to attack us. As you check things off you gains poiints, gold, and silver pieces. Periodically, I purchase gems to give as rewards for different challenges we do as a family. It has apps for all gadgets too.

So do you have any pictures of the things you're creating for the craft fair? Just curious to see what you're up to. :)

I have been making keychain wristlets, button magnets, clothespin magnets, and dog collars and leashes. I am just starting to add in headbands using the same fabrics. :)
