And of course, my happy thought: How great I feel when I’ve eaten healthy and when I lift heavy things. How great I will feel without this excess weight; having the energy, strength and confidence to do the things I want to do.

Starting stats:

 

Weight: 192.6 lbs

Body Fat: 36.2%

 

Squat: 40 lbs (+20 from previous challenge)

Bench Press: 40 lbs (+20 from previous challenge)

Bent Row: 40 lbs (+20 from previous challenge)

Overhead Press: 40 lbs (+30 from previous challenge)

Deadlift: 70 lbs (+50 from previous challenge)

 

I have a family reunion in 3 months, and I know I won’t be in perfect shape by then, but I want to make huge progress before I get there. I’m hoping to lower my body fat percentage quite a bit, but my main goal is to improve my habits/adjust my lifestyle (as always) because that is what will lead to lasting results.

 

I plan on meal prepping 5 or so meals today. When I woke up, the meat I was saving for the meal prep was all cooked and prepped for breakfast… so I’ll have to come up with a new recipe :/ I have a bad feeling I’ll get some backlash from my family regarding the meal prep. But we’ll see. Maybe not.

 

Also, this is my first challenge without a strength training goal. Honestly, I don’t think I need one with where I’m at right now. I’m motivated purely by my desire to lift heavier weights and I’m making strength gains easily every time I go to the gym. I no longer need a challenge goal to motivate me to go (for now).

 

Walking is going to be a major challenge. I’m going to start off with a 5 minute minimum. Seriously, I hate walking, but I think it will grow on me. I’m always tempted to run or just not go at all, nothing in between. But I know walking will help me lower my body fat percentage, so I’m going to give it an honest try for at least 4 weeks.


Sleep is also going to be a challenge. I really need to have a more stable schedule, and I’m sure I’ll settle into one once I have a job. I go to bed at all kinds of weird times and it seems like I always need 9-10 hours of sleep, which doesn’t make sense considering I’m really just sitting on my bum all day. I think once I have a fairly stable schedule, my body will go back to my normal 7ish hours and I’ll feel a lot less tired during the day.

Went for a 35 minute walk this morning :) It was a lot more enjoyable than I thought it would be. Usually I get so fed up because I feel like I should be jogging. Walking is just so slow and boring. But it wasn't this morning. :) Yay. 

 

I meal prepped some garlic baked chicken and steamed veggies. It only ended up making about 3 meals, but it's a start! I've marked them as off limits to everyone else, but we'll see if they're still there in the morning. X_x

 

And sleep... so not gonna happen tonight. It's 10:15 and I'm wide awake. Maybe tomorrow.

Forgot to weigh again this morning. I swear I'll do it tomorrow :)

 

Didn't prep full meals, but I did make enough shredded chicken for several meals and set it aside in the fridge. Maybe tomorrow I'll put it together for some dinners or something. 

 

I'm pretty tired, so I have a pretty good feeling I'll be heading to bed by 11pm tonight. 

 

Oh, and as I was about to head to my community college gym, my mom invited me to work out with her at her gym... Planet Fitness. While I definitely wouldn't sign up for a membership there, it was a nice little ego boost. I went searching for something heavy enough for my deadlift... even the dumbbells weren't heavy enough. I had to use 2 dumbbells just to deadlift 80 lbs. Haha...I guess that makes me a lunk. <3

Bought some meal-prep containers on Amazon. They're plastic... but it gives me 10 to work with for now. When I have a job, I'll slowly invest in the glass containers I really want. 

 

Also planted my swiss chard and basil today. I hope I didn't transplant the basil too early, but it was so crowded I thought they'd start strangling each other if I didn't do it soon. And it's probably a little late in the season to be planting swiss chard (it's 85 out right now), but I don't care. It's done. <3

 

I'm about to go for my walk... I've been putting it off all day but I swear I'm going to do it right.... now.

Today I lifted things and put them down. I seriously feel so amazing every time I walk out of the gym. I know my goal is to walk on non-strength training days, but I felt so great that I went for a 30 minute walk as soon as I got home. :D Here's this week's lifts:

 

Monday

Squat 50 lbs 5x5

Bench 50 lbs 5x5

Row 40 lbs 5x5

 

Wednesday

Squat 50 lbs 5x5

OH Press 40 lbs 5x5

Deadlift 80 lbs 1x5 

 

Saturday

Squat 50 lbs 5x5 (Realized after the fact it was time to increase weight... oh well!)

Bench 50 lbs 5x5

Row 50 lbs 5x5

 

I've only technically been using straight bars (is that what they're called?) until today. I wanted to get to at least 50 lbs or so before I started using a true barbell... plus, not gonna lie, the barbell scares scared me. Lol. And today every single barbell station was full when I walked in. And I STILL DID IT. I was so excited, I took a picture of the view from under the bar. Feel free to roll your eyes. :rolleyes: I don't know why it was so scary. Just like walking in the gym the first time. Stupid irrational fear. But it's conquered now.

 

And now instead of doing the same 10 lb increment twice before increasing, I can increase by 5 lbs every workout until I get to heavier weights. When I started, I chose to start with 20 lbs on most lifts, but I knew I could lift at least 5-10 lbs more on each. I'm so glad I started light and moved slowly, because it still feels easy for me but I'm already lifting more than I could have even imagined lifting before. I didn't realize that until I started warming up with squats with the 20 lb bar. It was so heavy when I started, but it felt like nothing when I picked it up today. 

 

Anyway, </rant>. I'm doing fairly well with walking. If I walk tomorrow, it's 3/4 expected walks this week. I'm not doing so hot on sleep or meal-prep. My meal-prep containers arrived today and we have tons of food in the fridge, so I'll try to work on that in the next couple days. I have a formal lab report due on Monday so it might not happen until that's finished (or I need a break, haha).

Finally finished my formal lab report. I'll never look at enzymes the same way again... and since I didn't work out earlier in the day, I worked out after class. Another 9:30pm workout under my belt. This was the first stronglifts session that I've felt this weak :/ I could barely pick up last week's weight, much less add more to it on the squat and OH press. I did manage to add 10 lbs to my deadlift without feeling like I was overdoing it though. 90 lbs! :D I'll take a deadlift gain over the other lifts any day. Always feels amazing. 

 

I also managed to make 3.5 meal-prepped meals yesterday that I forgot to post about. I say 3.5 because I ran out of vegetables... but the meat is done for the last meal. Honestly, I have frozen brussel sprouts I could eat it with, so let's call it an even 4. That makes 7 meals so far this challenge. Almost half way there!

Sorry for the lack of updates! Crazy week! I ended up missing two workouts last week... and I didn't work out yesterday either. Made up for Monday's workout today. I had to de-load a bit, but it's all good! I feel great. And I did assisted dips today. 3 x 10 w/ 130 lbs assistance. I miss doing dips, pull ups and push ups. I'm going to start incorporating them into my workouts for a while, just for fun. 

 

So my job starts on April 25th. I have a rehearsal dinner to go to on Friday and my cousin's wedding on Saturday, four hours away. I'll have to roll with the punches as far as my third workout for the week goes. My brother will be in town tomorrow morning and my sister is coming Thursday. I have to get my new driver's license before I start working and I have a major biology project due Thursday night that I haven't started yet. So I apologize in advance for forgetting to update regularly this week/weekend. 

 

What else... hmm. Oh! Meal prep! LOL. Haven't done it. And sleep... haven't done it. See ya next week. <3
