It's been a weird year so far, right? Just me? Ok. Trying to get back on track, and inspiration for this challenge comes from the Ten Dollar Founding Father. He got a lot farther by working a lot harder. And I'ma do the same.

Quest 1: "Tryin' to reach my goal, my power of speech: unimpeachable"

In January, set a goal of 700 miles by the end of 2016. I've logged just 41 to date. My goal this challenge is where I started NF last summer: 3 miles 4x per week. I'll evaluate mid-challenge and up the mileage to get back on track for the year.

Quest 2: "You rise up"

My running has suffered because my morning routine is garbage: oversleep, waste time on my phone, rush to get ready, skip breakfast, and rush off to work. Not only is it keeping me from running, but it throws off my entire day. For this challenge, I'll wake up at 5 each workday, and my routine will include: running, no phone, breakfast, and either LSAT prep or Bible reading.

Quest 3: "I walk these streets famished"

I'm back to eating out a lot for lunch. This challenge, I will pack my lunch the night before at least 4 nights per week. (As I typed that I realized I'll be on travel 2 weeks of this challenge. For those weeks, if my hotels don't have fridges and/or I'm unable to get groceries, I'll stick to salads for lunch.)

Side Quest: "I'ma get a scholarship to King's College"

Keep plugging away at the LSAT prep. We're 8 weeks from test day, and I still have some work to do. I'll be up to two full practice tests per week by the end of the challenge, and I'm going to supplement with at least 30 minutes of studying per day on non-test days. My goal is to be scoring 175+ consistently by then. (Fun fact: King's College later became Columbia University, with one of the top 5 law schools in the US, so this lyric is particularly fitting.)

Good first day for me on the fourth day of the challenge. Better late than never!

1: Finally woke up early enough to run. I ran 3 miles and kept the pace under 10 min. That's a good start.

2: Morning routine was a huge success. Got up and ran, was able to chug down a healthy if not completely delicious smoothie, and read a bit before my youngest was up to read before I went to work.

3: Good here too. I had a solid lunch packed, which kept the snacking/fast food demons at bay.

Side: Ran through one section of practice for about an hour tonight. I need to get more confident on my techniques so I don't get so frazzled when I run into a question that stumps me.

Kudos on the solid workout! Keep sticking to that routine - get those small victories in early and build the momentum for the rest of the day!

Glad to see you back, and I hope you can make all your goals happen. The all seem very achievable, and beneficial for you, as well. I've found three miles to be a really good baseline target for running – it's long enough to be useful, but short enough that it doesn't take too much time out of the day.

As much as I have to do it, eating when traveling still gives me a lot of trouble. Having a hotel with a fridge and a microwave really helps.

Thanks Salty! Yeah, I had a kitchenette on my last trip, and that worked out much better. Just a minifridge this week. We'll see how it pans out.

Week 1 recap:

ONE: I got two runs in, one at 3 miles, one at just over a mile because of some time constraints.

TWO: I did well Thursday morning, but Friday was weird because my youngest decided 4:30 AM would be a good time to wake up and get sick. Yayyyyy. Weekends are "N/A" for this challenge.

THREE: Packed my lunch the two workdays that were on the board this week. I did not eat said lunch on Friday, though. I need to make sure these are quality lunches so I don't fold so easily when a coworker says, "Want something from Chipotle." Lesson learned.

SIDE: I did some solid prep each day this week. I haven't done a practice test because of my travel schedule this week. But I'm going to do one tomorrow night.

I've added a google Sheet to track my progress. See my signature, or it's here if you want to follow along.

Sunday and Monday

Sunday was a travel day, and one that went horribly awry. My plane was diverted for weather, and instead of landing at 11:30pm, we landed at 4:00am Monday. This threw the Sunday and Monday off challenge-wise. I managed to eat pretty well both days, but any notion of a routine was out, as was trying to study. I made it through a day of conference presentations and then totally crashed Monday night.

Tuesday

I made it out for a three-miler, so that was good. I ate alright, as in, I had a salad with my pizza for lunch. I didn't really do anything by way of the "routine" or LSAT studying. I'm pretty zonked by the time I get to the end of my days here.

Wednesday

Another three miles today. Kinda went off the rails for lunch, but then had a salad for dinner. But then I had a greasy quesadilla later last night. I'm paying for that this morning. Again, struggling to find the motivation to study at night. I've really got to get on that.
