Today was a rest day because today is the AL Open Karate Tournament. I volunteered in the morning and had a lot of fun helping out. Afterward, I was useless for many hours, between napping and chilling out with Youtube. I DID manage to get some writing in, so we're on track to call Week 3 a success.

While I was doing my OHP, a girl showed up and asked me if the rack with the still loaded bar was available--oh, that's right, he started doing some cable-related exercise while I was doing my sets, I discovered when I looked around. The rat bastard waved it off saying she could have the bar he CBF to unload of its lone pair of 45s, because at one point he'd removed some plates.

 

Why, just why. With supersets like that, that guy was basically wasting his time in the gym. If you are going to meander all over between your supersets you might as well just do them regular style. Especially since it sounds like they were all upper body work anyway.

YES. THIS WEEK IS OVER, ALL GOALS MET. I did the thing at the gym and made all my sets. It was otherwise a chores and rest kinda day. I am VERY exciting when left to my own devices. Will default to Youtube in bed if given any opportunity to do so.

 

Shark Week is here, but it's not going to slow down my lifts. Mag has been on point after those few slip-ups, I guess we'll see what happens. This will just about settle whether magnesium can help my hormone migraines, missed doses nonwithstanding. Week 4 marks the final week of current programming, the following week will be the first of 5/3/1. That will be interesting. I modified my version of the program because I got gunshy that it still wasn't enough to drive progress. More on that later, when I have screencap powers. I am just about totally unjammed from my writing block thanks to forcing myself to confront the issue. Goals that do their job, imagine.

Yay for making your Friday lifting goal! Yay for making your writing goal! Go Urgan!

 

Your gym sounds like a fascinating place to work out. So much amazing behavior and fashion choices.

 

I hope the magnesium supplements do their job on getting you through shark week without migraines. Do you have party music or podcasts to get you through the parking lot commutes? You could freak out the other drivers by car dancing.

Me too, but I have some kind of headache already, though it's in a location that is not classic hormone migraine. Who knows what will come of it.

 

Oh yeah, I got a playlist that keeps me sane. Required to survive the commute.

Okay, guys, got another one for you. Applebee's. Our department is allergic to giving notice on plans to go out to eat. Birthday lunch that's part of our tour of the worst possible restaurants in town. I go just to occupy the seat and had an opportunity to eat chips and salsa directly across from the carb-shamer (.7lb of chuck roast is what I brought today....).

i hear you. i listen to audiobooks to get my head elsewhere (why pay attention when driving? that's silly). but there are some fridays that i get all that excitement for the weekend built up and i need to listen to fun music on the way home!

Well, not much to say about the bulk of this day except I am totally committed to finding a new job. Gymmed, did the previously mentioned shit restaurant tour, went to Aikido and worked sokumen iriminage (the technique where you get up in someone's space and push them down with your trunk, arms and legs are just things to make sure there will be no escaping the destined trip to the mat). That worked out fairly well. I left with an upper body as sore as my lower was upon arriving, lol. I am now pondering the question of when to test.

 

Oh yeah, and Shark Week. I took my mag in the evening. It's not stopped the migraines, but the timing of the dosage may have a major effect on blunting the fun stuff. I did wake with the eye-stabby, but in normal light levels I really haven't had big trouble yet. The day is still young, of course. Thoughts: my right side is where all migraine pain loves to camp. It's where my muscle tension aches camp. Is this evidence that hormone migraines are spasming blood vessels? It has something to do with eye use, because looking at things with backlit screens is the trigger. Weighing the likelihood that supplementing feverfew, willow bark, or whatever else will address this. Today is one of the better Shark Week Tuesdays I've had.

Well this is exciting!  Boo for the feeding frenzy, but new job, and really, big unwavering commitment to dealing with it, that's big! I remember you being not so thrilled with your commute and more. Digging in the heels and saying, there is no other option, goes a long way. Good luck!!!

Nothing says you are not valued like getting passed over for direct hire while others as new or newer are now full-fledged employees. And then hearing others will be brought back on board (who were disappeared or screwed over and let go mid-week with no advance notice given to the rest of us) from someone not my boss, because don't deserve to know anything.

my aunt has gotten into the willow bark tea thing, she's had knee, hip, and shoulder surgeries and is a PT. i mentioned that i usually down ibuprofen during shark week and she suggested the willow bark! haven't tried it yet but she says it's really helped with her pain management. she lives in the country/woods so she just goes out and harvests it herself and makes big batches like bone broth.

Hrm. I haven't had showstopping pain today, so it may be some other minor supplement might finish the job. Tea only or would something in pill form perform similarly?

as far as willow bark, i would assume a pill form would perform similarly. most of those supplements/vitamins aren't regulated so you never really know how much of a dose is in each capsule. but, then again, if you're making willow bark tea yourself you are changing the dosage depending on how long you let the bark steep and how much you drink. soooo six and a half dozen the other.

 

glad to hear the day is progressing mostly painlessly! (migraine-wise) keep us updated :)

Um, the active ingredient in willow bark is salicylic acid, closely related to acetylsalicylic acid in aspirin. Aspirin is safer than willow bark tea because the dose is known and acetyl form of the drug has fewer side effects.

Straight talk time. That whole thing about Tuesday being mild and looking optimistic for the future? Turns out my brain thought it was Goku and was saving energy up for a Spirit Bomb. Woke up with a light-sensitive migraine and called in for the day. It hung around until late into the afternoon and is still riding around in the back of my head to this moment. So yeah, mag is NOT a magic bullet. Still gonna take it, of course, because I think it may help in addition to the other benefits I've seen, but not the answer I was hoping for. Axing it as a goal, because at this point it would be silly to keep on with it. 

 

I was able to make it to the gym late in the afternoon, but my appetite took a hit. Did pretty well, all things considered. I love how light 150lbs feels. I'm halfway through the last week of this program and 5/3/1 is looming. Here's what the 3s week looks like:

5s and 1s look much like this, the reps and weights just change a bit down and up, respectively, and 5s week features less in the way of jokers. I know it probably barely looks like the original program anymore, but oh well. It's more like a philosophy than a program anyway. Well there you go. This will be Interesting, if nothing else. 

 

Tomorrow I hope to write and think about my test date for Aikido. Presuming my head plays nice.
