I've done plenty of hot and humid aikido, but never in the dark. Special edition version. We sometimes do eyes-closed training, but it is always just uke or nage, not both.

Yeah, we've had the AC go out a couple times on us, but this was a new feature. Imagine training with only the light of three cell phones and the sign-in tablet and the occasional lightning from the storm visible from the open door. It was like a completely different place.

Actually, in a way, it sounds kind of romantic. I remember, back when I used to train w/ K-sensei out of a storage unit. We used to post up a lantern for our light, and it would just be us going with each other on the mats with an open garage door. Felt very old-fashioned, you know? Really changes the energy of the space.

Morale is in sub-basement 2. We're losing a coworker, another is throwing down an ultimatum, and yet another is trying to get themselves fired. There are noises of management shifting, which might result in my management moving/changing/expanding and if you learn anything here, change is B - A - D. I'm just over here like, please hire me, Company I Just Interviewed With??? PLZ?? Seriously I hope I get the offer that is meant for me, but I also hope that this is the company for me and we can just cut this dog and pony short.

 

Harley is acting lethargic and feels like he's lost more weight. I gave all the cats Advantage last night and taking a half day today to see if he shows sign of improvement via killing parasites. No idea how he'd have gotten a parasite except for at the vet without everybody having the parasite, but here we go. He did eat some kibble this morning, but he turned down brisket and ham last night, which was super bizarre. He didn't ignore it, he tried to eat it but gave up? 

 

This month can go die, y'all.

When was the last time he had a full body xray and bloodwork?  (I'd assume recently due to current issues, but you know what they say when you assume, yadda yadda)

 

I'm starting to wonder if wandering into the Appalachians to become a reticent kung-fu master isn't in my cards.  Shuffle off the cowl of modern-day society, you know....

He got that when we first took him over for the barfing bile. We didn't see anything there, frustratingly.

So I have taken to force-feeding Harley bits of canned chicken. It falls apart under minimal force. He didn't really enjoy that too much yesterday. At 5AM, I woke up to barfing sounds. Got up and saw Harley hurking up brown bile in two spots. Solid barf in two other spots prior to me getting up, so I didn't see HIM do it, but it made a trail and looks like everything he's eaten this week that we know of. Plus a rather large (thumb-size) grey hairball. Consistent with the presence of brown bile, or so the Internet tells me.

 

Could a hairball both be invisible on imaging and sufficient to clog a cat? Sufficient to hang around until there is enough of a backlog to force vomiting or proper GI tract function to form a BM? 

 

This morning I made him eat a bit more and we're getting to the place where he will chew it if I stuff it in his mouth and convince him that failure to eat is not an option. He bent down and sniffed some of the pieces, too. Same as how he does when put in front of the food bowl. He'll drink water like normal now. Lots of water, after that bile adventure.

Most of the scenarios that pop into my head are Not That Great, but there could honestly be a zillion reasons for a cat not eating.  A good rule of thumb tho is the stinkier the food, the better sometimes.  Fish?  Smelly canned food with gravy he can lick up?

He turned his nose up at one kind of Fancy Feast (we opted for gravy kinds...nobody got time for pate), but we have others. Will deploy canned food when I get home. In the event that fails, I believe we have tuna.

Results are, Harley was interested in the Fancy Feast insofar as the gravy was concerned. Didn't eat much of it. Was curious about the tuna, did not want. Made him eat a little bit of it. He sought out a litterbox directly thereafter. Soooooo....liquid things are apparently desirable. No idea what to do with that.

More chicken was eaten, two water breaks. 

 

No barfing in the night, unless he hid it like One Piece.  Many poops in the boxes, no clue whose they are. 

 

He greeted me this morning sitting upright on his haunches and meowed. Acting more alert. Chased after a water jug ring and actually batted it a little bit, that last part is a level up from yesterday. Deposited the Fancy Feast from yesterday in front of him and he spend over twice as long licking and nibbling at it. I think we may have a winner. Chicken is still a possibility if he doesn't duplicate interest in the Fancy Feast.

I don't remember much of Thursday off the top of my head, except that it probably sucked. Had to go back and look at my FOOD LOG to remember what the Hell happened that day. Oh yeah, job interview. Yeah, all the emotional crashing. I could totally do the job, but whether they'll make an offer is totally up to random chance it feels like. I'm giving it one week then ditching any hopes like last week's leftovers.

 

Speaking of food, Harley turned down brisket and ham, which made all this shit all the more alarming.

All kinds of volume, just work and no PRs--but working with 3RM for sets, so there's that. All the stress. Coworker's last day, other coworker went on that spastic attack of childishness detailed above. Worked a half-day and left to Work From Home. No cat update except life sucks as per the growing norm. We got the Medicaid letter here.

Cat threw up brown bile for sure, possibly every stitch of food he'd eaten for days. Not sure, didn't witness that part. I want to just believe he only threw up the bile, but I am not that optimistically delusional.

 

Lifts are starting to feel like hot garbage. I can still do most of my sets (gave up after 2 work sets of deads, however...), but instead of feeling more alive they make me feel more dead. Went home and ate leftovers to try to make better use of our food before just tossing it like lazy wasteful slobs. Harley ended up with a duke's mixture of chicken, fancy feast, and tuna. 

 

Sunday

Life just keeps giving. Harley enthusiastically licked/nibbled the Fancy Feast and later we found very, very well chewed food + steel grey solid-looking lump on the window sill. No witness to this pile. Force-fed a bit more chicken (a bit larger than a sugar cube before I busted it up) and other than that, it was water unless he snuck kibble. He pees infrequently, but it happens. We see him go in, come out, and there is Evidence in the box of such. 

 

AC gave out because it was a hottish day, so in addition to Harley being weirdly self-starving we have heat to complicate his behavior. He wants to cuddle and be with people, is not hiding behind the bathroom door or under the gossip bench at any rate. Hearts the tub muchly. We aren't sure which huge expense will demand payment next, so it's hard to drop the $600+ required to resuscitate the AC when the cat may require God knows what. Gambling on the storm front keeping the weather cool-esque for yet another week, which may be critical to timing all this crap. "This crap" consists of:

 

- balding tires

- Harly

- AC

- sorting out reimbursement from Volkswagen, which can't be done today because

- Husband is going to drive to Kentucky to get a parts car and will be staying the night up there. Additional possible cha-ching out of pocket to allow him to drive and spend the night, I don't know yet

No, they were probably kinda hoping the upper respiratory was the cause. No idea what their next direction will be, but I have a lot to dump in their lap and hopefully some of that verbal diarrhea above will mean something to them. I'm just over here like, does my cat have leaky gut and if so how the hell do you fix that??

Yeah...  like... he obvs WANTS to eat and that's a good sign!!  Dehydration can be dangerous with lots of vomiting too.  In situations like this that I've encountered, we've usually done a biopsy of the stomach lining to the lab to check for inflammation or something more sinister.  Steroids might help but they also may be rough on the stomach??  An ultrasound can detect more than an xray can too, but it's usually a fairly specialized technique that can't always be done at a regular visit.  (Like, our town has an ultrasound specialist that travels to vet offices, 'cause that equipment is hella expensive and sometimes it takes a trained professional to visualize what's on that ultrasound screen and pick out the important stuff.)

Yeah, that's one big way he's improved over this nightmare two weeks. He now makes an effort to eat every once in a while. Sometimes he keeps it down?? He got a combo steroid and antibiotic last week and it cleared up the upper respiratory but maybe cost him in the stomach department??

Yellow is generally the normal color for cat puke (hrgh) and is normal stomach bile/digestive fluids; sometimes when it turns brown it can be due to the presence of minor blood in the stomach due to irritation or inflammation!
