Probably stress. I've only had a standard "gone in two weeks" kind of deal with an employer once before and it was with Walmart, so this is not something I have a lot of (positive) experience with. Two of my three bomb-drops were positive/uneventful. My functional manager and my contract company (who, if you're keeping score at home, stands to lose money with my leaving) both took it well and were actually kinda happy for me. Not so much with my "real" manager, who has been absentee from the scene for most of my time here post-old manager getting the ol' bump down into the trenches. I gave him my notice and he told me that just earlier he was talking with someone and he gave me a promise of a future offer of FTE. He then proceeded to tell me the things he thought were wrong with my performance (for the very first time ever, I don't even dispute them but I also do not care because it was self-preservation to avoid Certain People) and how that was going to make his case harder to get me FTE at this company. Then asked if I would take him up on that. I told him that I'd already signed the papers with the other company and he said, too late huh? I said yeah, Company was too late. He corrected me, Parent Company was too late. I just sorta shrugged like DGAF. We talked about some other stuff, but that was the money bit. I thought it was hilarious how he attempted that maneuver and at the end as he's opening the door tells me that he's sorry to see me go, that I held down this department so he didn't even have to think about it. Just marinate on that for a bit. Meanwhile, my husband is dealing with an AC repairman who arrived late, slowly futzed around for an hour, only to come down and tell him that he's out of Freon on his truck. We called the place explicitly to charge our unit as a patch to buy time to save money for a new unit. This joker tells us that the Freon would have cost us $800~ dollars, when two seasons ago it was $550 and we were quoted for the CHEAPEST AC/heat pump at over $8000 when the SAME company, who charged us the $550 quoted us at $6000 units. And this non-service cost us a service fee. Because of course it did. We consulted family who called on our behalf to figure out how the Hell this disconnect occurred and the office claimed we were down for a regular servicing/cleaning and they would call us back to get it straightened out. Around 7:30 he got a call saying there was a service man from their company at the door. There was just one problem, we had lined up another company to do the work and consult for that very expensive appliance installation because we don't want none anymore. Hubs asked for a refund and the person on the phone couldn't make that call on her own, so we asked to be called back the next morning. So far we haven't gotten that call so as of this writing I put in a check stop for that shit because based on word on the street we don't trust this company to not just go right ahead and cash it. We'll call later and confirm that we yanked the money back vs never having cut an honest check in the first place. Oh and throughout this my car is gradually struggling more and more to crank, the tags are due this month, and if I have another vet bill I will cry. You ever get the feeling you're hemorrhaging money? Aikido did happen despite all of the above. Gokyo time + suwari waza niikyo (you could say we had some knee/ni time), which went well--nothing remarkable except I was doing shiko and lost balance and all my weight ended up on the side of one of my big toes. We know this because a second company came out and inspected our situation and we now have a cool house for that much less dinero. We did the check stop and negotiated down from $130 to $40 for the cleaning that the tech actually in fact did. At the very same time, I came back from the mailbox with a refund check for $40 from Mike's CWOT doc appointment so WE AREN'T EVEN PAYING THEM. Sweet roller-coaster from/to Hell. Urgan
Also worth noting is I prodded Mike into calling them back and informing them that we stopped the check and he picked up steam as the conversation went with the AC office and reported their tech for scammery, so we might have performed a Public Service and/or saved the company from a bad reputation that it turns out they have for this kind of thing.
